For the evil pirates

  • I can't help but reminisce of the old fable games while playing SOT just because it takes me back to when i first played them.
That scenery, the clour palette, animation styles and of course the be good or bad it's your choice mentality.

It got me thinking of what evil pirate activities could be considered
(sorry rare but digging gold and killing the undead isn't evil)

I had some great ideas for bounty boards, placing contracts to kill other players, this being paid by you to any other player that completes the hit.

Alternatively there is info spreading about active NPCs, it could be nice to have a fetch quest with the decision factor, take person to either their designated outpost or to the flesh market, again tounge in cheek humor at the slave trade here.

Any other evil voyages you could think of?

  • A morality gauge would be super awesome I support this.

Doing something like merchant work would raise your morality and sinking a merchant ship would lower it and so on.

  • @majestic-sight Maybe benefits for both you know? Like if your were "evil" you could have more trade ability in a so called black market and if you were a good pirate you would have better trade ability with the kings market or something along those lines or you could get some stuff for free. It would be like destiny's clan system.

  • I was thinking: Link Ships Sail motif to the Income Method. I'll explain,
If 28 out of the last 30 Chests I sold were a. Stolen b. Originated from other Captains missions. c. Swiped from the Sea after sinking a ship....then their Ships Sail insignia should be a WARNING TO OTHERS like a blood-red skull and crossbones.
But idf 28 out of my last 30 sold treasure chests were found, dug-up and came from my own quests then I recieve like, 10% more gold and a Ships Sail Insignia of a traders theme, explorers theme etc.
Conclusion: Better warning for non-aggressive friendly
players that a crazy unfriendly very aggressive crew are coming, and to avoid them! YET, if you see a good insignia you know there'll be a friendly exchange, possibly trade etc
Basically, you are who your sails say you are, as a guide for other Captains to assess your intentions, good or bad 👍

I get the idea but I don't really want my sails changing I would prefer the flags to change similar concept except you get a jolly roger and then more merchant like flags respectively.

  • @majestic-sight Okay yeah, thats far tidy er. Then Captain can use their Spyglass on the Ships flag to read their 'Reputation Status' ang gauge their intentions from distance.
    👏👏👏

  • @burtlangoustine Exactly plus then you keep the ability to customize your sails and you can have a jolly roger if you want it by an action you commit in the game rather then just putting one on the ship if you can even do that because I have yet to see Jolly Rogers which is kinda sad :'(

  • I posted something similar before, I'd like to see an AI response (sadly AI controlling naval units has been denied by the dev's - i believe) in the form of a triggerable event perhaps? Maybe the trail of bodies left in your wake has drawn in numerous sharks and stirred the Great Beast from it's slumber. Your man in the crow's nest spies wave breaking oddly, a v shape forming - it seems to be heading towards you,... and a dark silhouette dances under the waters surface...
This would mean you'd get a chance to farm Krakens, though at the risk of being attacked by other players during the onslaught of the Tentacled One.

Perhaps your flag becomes 'flagged' so others become alerted to your intentions/'past activities' when seeing you clear the horizon. Maybe you'd build up a bounty that drops when your ship is sunk? but also get increased chances of finding loot on islands whilst preying on the unwary.

  • I discussed a system like this in another thread. https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/29482/ideas-infamy-system

  • Best way I can think to work this in with what we know of game systems coming already would be to earn Emblems for killing other pirates. I have a hard time imagining anyone dedicated to PvP wanting to advertise they are going to sink your from a distance (plus figuring out how this works with mixed crews could be problematic) but something that can only been seen when you are face-to-face like a title with the gamertag would be awesome.
Imagine if a ship comes in close to send boarders over and you suddenly see that one of the pirates aboard is "erikinthebakery, Dread Recruiter for the Ferry of the Damned" and the blood of everyone on board runs cold...

  • Um pirates dont advertise thier intentions lol. Has anyone ever read anything about pirates ha ha ha jk
Most pirates you didnt know where pirates till they was on you THEN if at all they hoisted the black.

  • Ok so we've strayed a little off course, i was thinking more of an evil pirate faction similar to that of the gold hoarders, the dark magic one or the merchant alliance.

Any ideas on the sort of things you could do with an evil faction?

  • I agree with what you mentioned about bounty hunting completely. I feel the game (at least from closed-beta) lacks infrastructure around those who are on a server. You have no way of knowing who is on, communicating with others across distances, understanding where conflict is, or getting revenge on players who've been going around shooting up the sea. I was thinking of posting something on this a little later today in terms of a player infrastructure system.

  • What about stuffing crunchy chicks in a barrel below deck so that the evil pirate has an evil snack along his/her journey?

  • @shadowstrider-7 ah you get me, this was my first thought when i saw the merchant alliance caged chickens lol

  • @laughsmaniacaly How 'bout a Zoology Faction.
They send ye faar n wide to cage exotic species for them to take back to them.
    Dodo's, Parrots, Monkeys, Albatros.
Then, as you unlocked a higher trade-ranking with ''The Zoologists'' they offer you Pets that everyone's been asking about.
1st Unlockable pet should be a dirty ship Rat. Just scurries around the lower decks in the dark areas. Leaving droppings: Map Table, Decks and Barrel tops.

    And So on..

having more Evil in the game isn't my bag. That's about as evil as I can go, lol, Sorry!

  • @burtlangoustine i believe that pets has been discussed along with caged animals, if memory serves its part of the anticipated merchant faction.

As for not evil, why everyone is a little evil, surely even you can enjoy the humorous splendor of watching someone running for the elevator while you hold the close door button to watch the doors close just before they can enter.

Ah the sweet joy of schoudenfreiuer (possibly spelt that wrong)

  • Would like to see my face and name on a bounty board.
    +1!

    Edit:

    Name: Amendus
    Crime: Eaten all bananas.
    Bounty: 10 gold.

  • @misterdoomed

You are right why should I have to show people what my intentions are. You will find out when we get close. If you run and I chase you will know what I want arrrrrrrrg!

  • Silly idea to many people trying to turn this in to a carebear game. I should not have to show you what my intentions are you will find out sooner then latter.

  • @sergent-c****r Carebear? Thats over the top, we're talking about the crows nest flag insignia being like a pirates notoriety. It's given to you. You earn it, and weaker players could spyglass it to gain a few extra survival seconds.
Carebear game? No. But factually, it is a savage and brutal experience in the very least. Jesus, without traing or instructions they were torn-apart. Spawnkilled constantly, annonymous no-mic crews, outsailed, and losing every pvp for the whole beta.....how would you sell the game to these brutalised 1000's?

  • Off topic again here guys, come on what I'm after is:

A cool new faction (style and name) for all our misdeeds something like the marauders. Somewhere you can take evil voyages.

Come now, suggest to me your evil voyage.

  • @burtlangoustine
Sounds like every ship my crew plundered hardy har har!!!! Flags are for the French navy not us pirates!!! Maybe you could make a flag for your ship with a teddy bear face with rainbows on its cheeks. Hahahahha aaaarrrrrg!

It will let my crew know your an easy plunder!

  • @sergent-c****r But this is a pirate game should you not have a Jolly Roger? like every pirate? If you are a pirate don't be a coward display your colors and your intentions I know I would. You are going to know I am coming to sink your ship and take your gold.

  • @majestic-sight

I’m just messing around my pirate character is rough around the edges arrrrrg!!!

  • @sergent-c****r I saw your other thread I like your suggestion for the griefing good deal.

  • @majestic-sight
    Thanks

You would have been a very bad pirate with a very short career lol.

  • @laughsmaniacaly And the most evil pirate becomes the capt'n of the flying dutchman !

  • @dzeenk i was thinking that it'd be like the current factions so you would get a selection of weapon, ship and clothing skins
I imagine something akin to the flying dutchman style
