Claiming enemy ships

  • RareDevs,
Have you considered letting players claim enemy ships for the taking? After getting into a few battles, i really liked trying to steal ships because it can be very difficult. However, if succrssful the other team just respawns on their ship stabbing the new captain in the back while at the helm. What if after you take out the enemy crew, you could pull down a their flag, or "colors", and hoist your own. By hoisting your colors the enemy crew is no longer able to spawn on their ship, which makes it yours to do with it what you will.
I was discussing my idea with some friends and everyone loves the possibilities. What are your thoughts?

  • This sounds extremely fun. I’d be up for it

  • Each server/instance has a player cap of 16 (or around there). That's essentially 16 solo sloops, or 8 two man sloops, or 4 galleons, or a mixture of them all. Let's say your particular server had 4 galleons and you captured one. How would you efficiently run 2 galleons with 2 crewmates per?
The randoms I have played with could barely manage to work the sails, let alone manage a whole ship. You would be severely limited with combat running a skeleton crew on a galleon.

  • @shadowstrider-7 No, the servers do not have player caps, only ship caps. We believe it is a maximum capacity of 6, one for each outpost. So that can be 6 sloops, 6 galleons or any combination.

  • @natsu-v2 then I was misinformed. 6 ships on that large of a map seems pretty minute. I would prefer a player cap vs a ship cap.

  • @shadowstrider-7
To be honest, I'd like to see more players per server and the ability to invite one or two more people per ship. But I think the sky is the limit with this game. I'm sure many changes are in the future.

  • @shadowstrider-7 Same, it would make sense to have a lot more sloops than galleons proportionally. The intention seems to be for sloops to team up, so it would definitely help with that to have them take up less server space.

  • @truesdell fleet servers would be a great addition, to be honest. More ships, more active crews and they could even add fleet missions. Naval battles between fleets would be intense!

  • @natsu-v2
Can you image a couple sloops teamed up to take on a Galleon? Sounds like a blast to me!

  • @truesdell It happens every now and then. But the recurring problem is that you run out of targets to kill, or you end up picking on the same enemy ship. I've found that while the max capacity is 6 (or in the past, 5 or 4 when we had less outposts) that the server is rarely actually fully filled. So there might only be 2-3 other ships on your server most of the time. And it seems to take an hour or so of sailing on an empty server before the game finally decides to merge you.

  • @truesdell I watched that happen during the Beta. A galleon was harassing a sloop and another sloop joined in the fray to help sink the galleon. After the battle was over, the sloops turned on each other lol
    Filthy pirates.
