Community/Social Hub mega-thread

  • So we have all likely seen the discussions surrounding the dreaded 'safe zone' topic.

While I don't agree with making safe zones around outposts I would like to see a social hub.

I'll briefly brainstorm my ideas about a pirate city, a central and only safe zone in the server.

    Specifics:

    • No chests can be deposited here, this would provide a safety net to guarantee you'll sell your treasure free from attack, which would not suit the game or its ethos at all.

    • damage cannot be inflicted within a radius of the hub, maybe marked by boeys around the island. However once outside zone, damage can be taken. To deter zone camping the zone will need to be large enough to circumnavigate and the volume of ships should deter bullies from camping else suffer being ganked.

    • any treasure should be sold at an out post beforehand else risk losing it on the way in/out of the safe zone.

    Activities:

    • implement some sort of bar games, maybe a simple instanced card game? Go fish, poker etc as seen in games like red dead. Ability to gamble with gold against other players?

    • mini games like horse shoes, knife throwing/darts, target range etc.

    • facilities to purchase weapons and cosmetics as being killed doesn't effect your gold or your ability to purchase these items anyway.

    Buildings:

    • weapon trader
    •clothing trader
    •potions trader
    • tavern
    • possible player run market place? To sell cargo like live stock etc to other players (opportunity for player economy.)
    • notice board with the possibility of hiring other players as crew members? So solo players can join and leave existing crews? Join a crew to get a ride off the island as they've left their old crew, and need to earn the gold to buy their own ship (as rare have said ships purchasing will be in the game, from small to large as you increase your gold horde)

Basically the place will feel like a hustling bustling city of pirates for business and pleasure, giving some much needed life to the rather lifeless world we currently have.

Though the social hub will be a safe place, the seas/islands and outposts will still be a wild and unpredictable place.

Let me know your thoughts and suggestions and cast your vote as to whether you'd like to see the inclusion of a social hub.

I've seen safe zones in other PvP games and the 'zone' itself is readily exploited.

Safe zones don't work, but PvP flagging I think could.

If you attack in an Outpost, you're flagged. The NPCs will attack you, player characters can also attack you, and the NPC vendors won't trade with you.

Flagging could last for 1hr, but only in that Outpost. Will still let players fight each other if need be, but you'd better get outta town fast...... which sounds like Pirate life to me.

Along with this, make it so stolen chests are flagged and can only be turned in at the most shady of Outposts where there is no player flagging.

    My 2 cents.

  • The point is more of a social hub than a safe place to hide. I want a place the community can meet and speak and find new players. A city hub would be great for that.

  • I hate the idea of safe zones, but would love a social hub like you suggest. It wouldn't be an outpost or somewhere to cash in treasure etc. It would be more of a gathering place for pirates to have fun. That would be great to see!

A fair few people have asked for it so I hope it's at least been seen

  • I don't mind having a social hub where other players can meet up, playing minigames, cardgames etc. to earn/lose some coin and crewing up with others.

It just shouldn't break the immersion and there shouldn't be a way for exploits.
