State of the Game

  • Ahoy,

Sea of Thieves is shaping up to be a great game. I had a lot of fun in the Alpha and I’m excited for the Closed Beta to open up. There are two concerns I have though: 1) Will there be character customization beyond outfits and a select amount of faces? I hope we can customize our face, body, hair, etc. to our liking. More in depth character customization makes it feel like you’re actually playing YOUR character and not the game’s character. 2) A big concern for a lot of the community seems to be how much progression there will be. Progression is one of the most important things in deciding a game’s longevity.

I’m sure the game will be great, see you on the open waters.

  • AMEN! As a customization freak I was rather disappointed that we don't get full customization over our faces and bodies. Of course there should be some restriction so you can't make ridiculous characters (Reign of Kings is the example below on what NOT to do) but especially in a game like this full customization control is a must.

  • I would also like to see more customization options like that, hair, jewelry, clothing, and so on. Also being able to give your pirate it's own name would be a nice touch. My biggest thing is being able to make my pirate legend more personal, but still make sure it stays in line with the theme of the game

  • I'm not sure we'll have the amazing customization that some MMOs have (facial things like eye width and jaw length) but I hope for a multitude of different head shapes, hair colors, and height. As for progression, the devs have mentioned that cosmetics are the progression. As you go up in the three guilds they will offer items to deck out yourself and your ship. This will show others how much of a b****s you are.

  • Couldn't agree more on the progression. I'm sure they have something up their sleeve, but without anything to strive for we will quickly move on to another game.

  • @honed-talent I spend way too much time creating characters in games, its one of the most enjoyable parts of starting a new gaming adventure. I hope they let us do a very detailed character creation before joining the game.

  • @ethnine Ahahaha. I found my counterpart :D I get bored after 5 minutes when I have to create a character and then just click accept.

  • @jcmdeadpool just gonna mention here. I am the type of guy who really goes into customization. Then after hard work and grueling slider adjustments, I discover that my character looks worse than the stock one. Reset to Default. Are you sure that you are finished with the character creator? Yes!

  • @sapca11v1 Naw. Don't do that. Im sure your created charakters will look better than you think. And probably a lot better then any "Default" one.

  • @ethnine cough Skyrim cough :D

  • @honed-talent I can't even count to you how many characters I created in that game lol. Its a lot, and each one took like 20-30 minutes lol. I might have a problem, but I hope Rare lets me continue with my addiction.

  • @ethnine First step is admitting you have a problem matey 😆 but don't think you need to worry about that one lol. Making your character look just right is a big part of certain games imo. Can't go out that door unless everything is ok. ;)

  • I'm always a fan of more customization and options over less. That said, as long as we have a diverse range of options for heads and body styles so that every pirate doesn't look the same, I'm good with it.
