Permanant Buried Treasure

  • Buried treasure disappears when the maps are gone, and I think that's a serious issue. I recently spent 4 hours burying my giant haul of treasure in a secret location only to find when I logged off that the treasure had been destroyed cause I logged off. In my opinion, it should be tied to the player who buried it and as long as they are on the server so is the treasure, cause that's 4 hours of hard work gone in 1 microsecond. I had just looted a great shipwreck and buried to my best estimate(from memory) about 20 - 30 pieces of treasure which took me so long I wasn't even able to do any voyages or anything.

  • This would be exploitable by players stealing and combat logging. There would also be a lot of problems with storing all this information across different crew mixes. Not worth the trouble.

Burying treasure is only useful for temporarily hiding it. Cash it in if you want to keep it.

  • @d3adst1ck Thank you for the quick response. I just wanted to point out that when I cash it in, it's taken by the server so I can't keep it. Also, part of the reason I buried it in the first place is because it's a really good gameplay experience to be able to have a secret stash somewhere, and it makes the fact you can bury it worthwhile.

Thank you for your time and attention on this.

When I was new, I buried treasure on an island at a certain spot so I wouldn't forget. I then took the map and tossed it overboard.

I later return to the spot, only to find it gone. When the map sank, my hidden treasure vanished.

  • It is a forgotten mechanic that needs an overhaul on how it works.
But if they were player linked. There bound to be a bug where you still end up losing it or it overlaps another players loot who may also be on same server

You do realize that by logging off, you are also off the server?
