I don't have 20 Friends that Play Sea of Thieves.
Currently I have about... 0.5 that do.
I like the Idea of the Custom Servers but I don't like having to rely on Discord to get people to join my session.
So will there be a Serverbrowser for Custom Seas?
It certainly can't be that hard right? 20 Year old Games have figured that out.
I don't think they are going to have one. It's invite only as far as I know. I don't think these servers are live all the time, only when the owner is online, so the browser would constantly be changing or listing dead servers, and it would also create an opportunity to DDoS specific community servers.
I think the fate of SoT as a whole actually depends on this. Custom seas is cool, but there needs to be an easy way to see what servers are open and what they are about. Custom seas will be a pointless update without a server browser. Obviously don't make every server public by default, make it a checkbox option, but having the ability to have publicly visible servers is part of what will make custom seas really flourish.
@surgy24 I'd actually argue that NOT having a Server browser will lead to a greater burden on Microslop.
If you can't easily find a Server with the configuration you want to play on, everyone is encouraged to make their own small server.
You could still have Servers close when there is nobody in there anymore, or if the host leaves.
The former is what they are already doing with the Sea merging anyways.
Also the lack of a Server Browser is pretty awful console players.
Because it is so fun to check Discord on your phone and type in the Server ID on a TV at the same time.
And seriously, if I can pull up Morrowind MP, a free mod for a 23 year old game and have a Server Browser, then Rare really has no excuse not to have one.
This isn't really the Rocket Science of the Video Game world, its more the Cooking a Steak without setting fire to your Cat level of Knowledge.
Just trying to make the most out of the laughable reality that Rare thinks a Custom Server is worthy of dedicating an entire season to it.
At least 343 Industries didn't proudly proclaim that they finally added Forge 18 Months after Infinite launched, they added that stuff in with a quiet miscallaneous update.
Because its embarrassing. Or at least it should be.

@callmebackdraft I think the only thing people may care about is it will bring Arena back. You can build it yourself and host it. This is the only way Arena will ever come back to the game and the people that have been asking for it now has a way to play it again. But will they actually do it is the question after years of begging for it to return.
Shadowspawn995 i think rare are just going to go the cheap option here and give us p2p servers rather than dedicated servers. if they go p2p its going to cause alot of problems like not been able to join if host is offline.lag spikes.disconnects. ect. have rare said if there going to be doing a deep dive into custom servers before release to clear thing up or not???
@elmo6842 that might be true, i honestly think by now its too late for most if not all Arena communities of the day.
SoC and NAL are well and truly dead, sadly
And from what i noticed all tries to start something similar has gotten nowhere
