Kindly lower the price for the Doubloons Reward sword

  • 50.000 Doubloons is a rather high amount - and that seems to be the common sentiment online, in forums, and social media.

For reference, I’m a player with over 300 days, having completed all commendations save very few, 100% achievements, I do not partake in server alliances and over the past 5-6 years, I’ve been steadily playing at least a few times a week, for hours.

I haven’t missed a season since the very first one, so I didn’t need to spend anything much in terms of doubloons, either

My Doubloon count? something less than 29.000

I’m sure there are plenty of players in this position so I would strongly urge you to address this matter.

The whole point of these rewards is to celebrate, not stress or divide the player base along the lines of a cosmetic sword.

    Thanks

  • That high of a doubloon count for an item shows me Rare does not actively play their own game. I watch many streamers play the game and I also have a lot of time played and have never once reached above 30k doubloons even with buying a few items. Streamers who stream this game 8+ hours a day still barely have this amount. It is absurd.

  • It’s for people who actually went beyond and longer term players.

Just because you “can’t buy everything”‘doesn’t make you any less of a player.
People have called it an ugly sword and yet still complain. It’s crazy

Even some day 1 players that have been playing everyday till this day can't afford it.
No one bothers to Doubloon farm since There was ZERO rewards for them for years after the last batch of cosmetics that added for Doubloons.
    They made the currency ''redundant''.

They made the reward for the 1%, wether that is good or not, depends on whom you may ask, you are clearly in favour of it. Most are not.

Also, I'm just going to drop this here to show how ridiculous the price tag jump is for the sword:

  • @burnbacon Most people with absurd doubloon counts are players who frequent server alliances. I fail to see how that qualifies as any sort of “above and beyond”.

It’s not a matter of some abstract virtue - it’s about celebrating what we had so that we can move on to the new system with a smile, not a frown.

That seems wild to me. I've got just about 5k hours (started playing at the very beginning of 2020) and I have 58k doubloons.

Even still, to @BurnBacon 's point, think about the Overachiever sails. Not everyone who was grinding during the early days has them and I'm sure some people were very close and were whining just the same that "the bar is too high".

Not everyone has to have everything.

If anything, I would say they should RAISE the price of the other items in a more linear way, leaving the sword at 50k. That way, even doubloon hoarders like me would have to choose carefully and wouldn't be able to get everything.

  • Most people with absurd doubloon counts are players who frequent server alliances.

Well, that another matter. Same thing happens when those same players "Finish Everything" and will come here..to complain how, there is nothing left for them to do. Because they were silly enough to have a whole server to themselves. If that is what makes them proud to have high number of doubloons, just for a ugly sword. Have at it.

it’s about celebrating what we had so that we can move on to the new system with a smile, not a frown.

Pirate Legend use to be that way...
Gold Curse use to be like that...
Having any of the Hourglass curses were something to be proud of...

Now everything is easy to be given to those who use off shore ways to achieve. If it be alliance servers, Safer Seas, or being piggy backed. Nothing is really glory in this game anymore. Any time they actually make something for those dedicated...are met with push back to have it less of a grind, less fight and just dip your toes into the water to unlock.

Months down the road...those who have the sword, wont even use it to show off. Or anyone care, will be more focused on the future doubloons costing and items released. Which atm...is not looking good either. (weekenders)

Devils advocate: Those are not time limited...

RARE killed the glory when they made everything a lot more accessible to everyone, catering to cry baby's, such as the Box of Wonderous Secrets event, I just remember how exciting it was to share screenshots with one, fast forward 2 years and everyone now has a screenshot hoarding them... or Athena chests that brought everyone excitement to have on on their ship years ago, now they are just ''meh'' in terms of excitement.

People WANT and LIKE to feel special.

Months down the road...those who have the sword, wont even use it to show off. Or anyone care, will be more focused on the future doubloons costing and items released. Which atm...is not looking good either. (weekenders)

That is also 100% true. I look back at old cosmetics that were hard to get, and I can clearly remember they had ''bragging rights'' back in that time period, now a days, who cares? Those once valued cosmetics have... Lost value... Obi 6 pack was cool, now everyone has them, the Guilded weapon set was cool during the Christmas Stream event and I got super jealous of the people that won them, now I have them by doing nothing in comparison. They were exclusive for the lucky few, then they gave them away left and right like hot cakes for Streamers to viewers and twitch drops. Yawn.

EVEN the Rarest sails like Banana/NAL/SoC Sails, I'm in a guild that has them, it just doesn't feel special.
RARE lost that emotional touch by catering to everyone.

Point and case where the Shrouded Ghost Title till this day is still very sought after, but even now I still frequent quite a lot of pirates that have that title, that I don't see it as 'rare' anymore, think I saw 3 pirates this week alone that has it, and there's a handful in my friends circle that have it now.
In comparison, I think Brave Vanguard title, the Legendary and Triumphant Sea dog titles appreciate with value over time.
While the Shrouded Ghost Title does not.

  • @the-barc0de i've gotten like 3-4k doubloons since the price announcement, it's very doable. Just too bad it's a sword, even when i use sword i'm not gonna scroll to the very bottom to equip it. Wish it was the title or the sails

  • @captain-knyt

If it were a Title...or Sails, something that is much bigger and seen more often, yeah I be little upset.
But also...people have there favorite cosmetics to wear all time. :P

  • As a day 1 player I also feel 50000 to be to high and what annoys me is the fact that at one point I had amassed over 70000 doubloons and with nothing showing in game for years that I had a use for I decided to spend a lot on those 500 doubloon special OOS missions for my crew that you used to be able to purchase. If Rare had given me some sort of long term hint that there was to be something of high value in the future to purchase I would have kept them. Now I am left with only 40000 and I am to be offered items worth only about 3000 Doubloons when the wipe comes. 30000 is a way fairer number given the stupid short notice after all these years. To me it seems that Rare are only looking at those stats from alliance servers players who continue to both P--s me off and corrupt in game award values. That also includes a lot of my friends who occasionally abuse those servers. I won't touch them. To me that not playing a game that's a second job in a game. Could I get 10k before the wipe yes but I am thousands of hours well past grinding in this game now!

  • 50k is way too high and I think its insane to think its justified.

The pricing structure is also stupid. 50 - 500 -1000 -2500 -50000. a 10x, 2.5x, 2x and then 20x increase. Genuinely who thought of this. You would imagine the increase be the same or go up at a flat rate, ie making the items cost 1k/3k/5k/7k/10k or something. Every other item is relatively nothing compared to the Sword and the Sword itself is stupidly unavailable.

You have people with 300million gold that don't have 50k doubloons. 0.001% of the playerbase is going to unlock this sword, which apparently is a bad thing according to the idea that ''we should return old cosmetics because barely anyone has them anyway''. It is insane to me that Rare finds a way to justify this sword being available to so little people, ie veteran players; while also spitting in the face of the same veteran players.

A good solution to this would simply be that you unlock them based on your historic doubloon count, as in all the doubloons you have ever made; not those you currently have on you. I would easily have over 50k doubloons right now If I hadn't multiple times in the past converted them to gold during gold and glories prior to Seasons. It was not a mistake to do that, nor was it a mistake to buy anything with doubloons prior.

I have also seen apparently they intend on doing a Doubloon event prior to the reset to help people grind out doubloons. This on its own defeats the entire point of having the items be commemorative for people that had previously earned a lot of doubloons. Ie if in the new event you can make 1k doubloons in a hour then it completely invalidates the value of the items as getting 1k doubloons used to be a lot of work. I would imagine if this does become the case the argument of 'the sword costs too much' will instead turn into 'the doubloon event defeats the point of the items in the first place'.

I would point out a player called Captain Ulric who has over 1 billion gold, as in 1,000,000,000. He has 110k doubloons, only double what you need for the new items. Cut that down that would mean around 500mill gold of selling loot equates to earning 50k doubloons. This is also a player that plays on alliance servers and has people invite him to crew before they sell their massive loot stacks so he can get the rewards from it. Even someone like this who afaik has the highest gold count publicly only has 2x the required doubloons for this sword.

I then also would point out the fomo aspect of this. They're re-adding old time limited items which would suggest they want to remove fomo, but in doing the doubloon reset they are adding fomo doubloon items, and post-reset they're doing fomo events to obtain items that won't be available again. If you haven't read the post; the items available for doubloons after the reset will rotate each time. For example the first event you can buy Item A, B,C, then the second event you can only buy D ,E , F. It doesn't just add new items to buy, it replaces the old ones, who knows when Item A will be available again. All of this combined genuinely just still shows Rare have absolutely no clue what the playerbase wants and more importantly shows nobody at Rare actually plays the game enough to understand how its played or who plays it.

  • 50k is way too high and I think its insane to think its justified.

One can say, anything over 10,000 is too high for anyone. Heck anything over 5k...got to think about all the super casual and noobie players as well. Nothing is fair.

A good solution to this would simply be that you unlock them based on your historic doubloon count

Not fair to all those who been playing the game just as long, maybe took a year off and so. Nothing is fair.

  • @burnbacon

Its not supposed to be for ''anyone, super casual and noobie players''. Its for veteran players who have amassed large quantities. The issue is that the price is to a point where a lot of veteran players would have had 50k if not for spending it on stuff like gold converts in the past. Likewise you saying a historic doubloon count is unfair because of people that took a year off; I'm sure you know exactly why that is a terrible argument, you are just arguing to be like ''no matter what they do someone will say its unfair so there's no point trying anymore'' which is such a negative defeatist viewpoint. Why even go on the forums?

I reject this point i absolutely hate server alliances and i dont play more then 1 or 2 sessions per week and i have 66k doubloons and i have purchased every single cosmetic available for it since the day they where introduced and still highly limited

It’s not a matter of some abstract virtue - it’s about celebrating what we had so that we can move on to the new system with a smile, not a frown.

While the jump is insane and the gap between sword and sails is absurd they (rare specifically stated they want the price for the items to reflect the achievement.

  • I played a lot.
Pirate milestones: 5767 days at sea (excluding time on uncaptained ships when I do open crew stuffs), 3k+ hours according to steam/xbox

I'd expect to be able to buy most cosmetics at some point.
But no. Can't buy the time-limited sword.
Clearly, I have not dedicated enough hours to this game.

    Unless I'm doing the skele-captain exploit/glitch 8 hours a day, everyday, I can't get 50k dubloons in time.

I don't feel valued as a regular player.

Either lower the price, or remove the time limit - so people can unlock it later, when people accumulate an abundance of doubloons again over time.
