Fog Plus Ghost Equals Scary Good

  • A few things that are true: the fog is kind of pointless, and nobody likes it. The Shrouded Ghost is stupidly hard to find. So, I suggest merging them into one event. ~10% chance you'll run into the Shrouded Ghost in the fog and have to fight it. Yes, I can already hear the complaints about how much area the fog covers (you can hide islands like Sharkbait Cove and Plunder Valley in it) and how impossible it is to fight in it, but it's much better than the what, 0.7% chance you have of getting the Ghost in a random encounter? Here, I'll even make your lives easier: no special music for it. Just have two red eyes suddenly cut through the fog, and let the battle begin. But how do? Have it on a Random Number Generator. 1/10, 1 brings the Meg out for 15 minutes, then it disappears for half an hour, then roll RNG again, set it on a loop.

I like it, and find its worth using when your wanting to sneak up on people. Only pointless if you dont know how to use it.

The Shrouded Ghost is stupidly hard to find.

    Yup.

~10% chance you'll run into the Shrouded Ghost in the fog and have to fight it.

a Moving Zone, that barely even appears on the servers anyways.

  • Fog and storm are both great features, while I would not want to sail in either most of the time. They add to the variation in the Sand box and can both be used to your advantage.

As for the shrouded ghost, I would not mind a small buff to spawning in the fog but I do not ever recall fighting any shark in fog, and I'm pushing on 4k hours.

I would also like a buff to your RNG by completing the other megs and hunters call achievements in game. Legendary hunter of the crested queen, get another 0.1 added to your spawn count. Complete 50 meg hunts, have another .1%.

  • @miserenz Then people who have every commendation that effects the spawn would sell themselves as crewmates on eBay for crazy prices

This is like if someone asks you if you want cheese on your burger, then you just start rambling pointlessly about how cheese is made. No wonder I stopped going on forums. It's like you didn't get the point. I dove last night to a sea fort, only to emerge in one surrounded by fog. Sea forts don't swim, but the cannonballs were basically invisible, making it harder to dodge them. I'm trying to advocate for something new, not fangirl about fog.
You basically advocated for this, anyway. Your first point was about how fog is good for ambushes; I wanted a low-spawn Meg in the fog, specifically the best choice to hide in it. Most of the others couldn't. Your 2nd point was that it's hard to find; the fog (when it's around) is huge, so there's a chance it could be in there, luring players in. 3rd, "it's a Moving Zone" (moving zones are where you load/unload trucks, but semantics aside...) is part of the game's weather, which is...weird, to be generous. The wind doesn't move with the waves, the water changes color in certain areas for no obvious reason, there are no plate techtonics or signs of erosion...the kraken ink kills players but not sharks...90% of the time, it would still be your precious game weather. Occasionally, though, it'd have the shark everyone is after.

    I don't think so Tim.

First, If its not a high final percentage say 1% for the ship, you would still have to grind for days to get it. Making such interactions not worth it.

Second, most people would just grind those commodations themselves.

  • @miserenz my name is not Tim but ok

Realistically, I'm just trying to create a better way of getting the ellusive shark. Originally, you had to get 8 people to play the Megalodon shanty, then fight the others Megs, suck their souls into a trinket as soon as they died, then fight the Ghost immediately after. That's 5 meg battles in a row, and it wasn't emmisaried for Hunter's call. What I'm suggesting is similar to the skeleton ship battles at J/10, just with a 10% chance to get the Ghost. You also have to FIND the fog, perhaps with a boost to its presence. I don't understand why we need 3 huge storms that can combine. Remove one of the storms and implement my suggestion. I've yet to hear why it's a bad idea.

Fighting a meg in HEAVY fog is not my idea of fun. They circle you, but you can only see them when they charge you. If they charge you. If they don't, you may not even get to identify it as the shrouded. I can imagine losing the meg, or the ship being knocked out of the megs' area well before we get enough shots on it for the win.

Do I like the idea of the Shrouded being enveloped in Fog? Cool idea, but it does make it substantially harder to engage if its' one of those encounters where the meg isn't interested and keeps swimming away......

If it was guaranteed to be a Shrouded, and you could get a better idea of the location with a pair of glowing red eyes, and it won't swim away?

Sounds like a cool encounter. It's sure to be a thrill to see it this way, ducking in and out of the fog.

  • @smuntface It would be annoying more than fun, the fog is so dense and you would so easily lose track of it.

Not if the aggro is high enough. I was watching footage from other encounters with it and it's not exactly chill. If anything, I'd say it's on par with the Feared Redmaw in terms of aggression (minus the explosion). You wouldn't need to keep track of it, because it'd be attacking you. Besides, you can make certain lights and colors pierce through the fog in the game's color mats options. Besides, it's not exactly small, so I'm not sure how you'd lose it.
