  • Thanks for this post. I had tried watching a few streams but I really hate twitch. The little I did watch I didn't notice performance issues. But I had moved my computer setup recently and then a new season started and the game has run choppy every since. I didn't know if I just got a bad 100ft cat 7 cable but i tried 2 different ones and the speed tests all show good numbers. This game has always been such a hot mess every update so it's been really hard to tell if it has been something with my move or just SoT being SoT. It's currently the only online game I play.

RTX 4070. I have always wondered what the perfomance hit is for running 5 monitors. At most i might have youtube up on a 2nd screen but chrome and firefox up on some others for work reasons. The fact i can play something like cyberpunk2077 without any issues I would say that and Indiana Jones and the great circle are the most demanding games I've played recently and I can run those smoothly even with 5 monitors. Though I do know there was an old graphical issue with SoT in year 1 when it came to multiple monitor setups.

So glad to know it's not just me. Though I am also only playing 4-5 days a season at this point. I do the monthly luck voyages, which aren't seeming worth the effort even as little as it requires. The amount of bugs in the latest up dates. The time gating of a season now under the promise of less buggy updates which is an excuse they have given for years as they have made patching less and less frequent has never improved the stability of the updates.

Not sure what it is but the magic has really started being drained from the game for me. Perhaps a big blow was being punished for "exploiting" the burning blade. Which I didn't. They had no way to track who was and wasn't exploiting so they drew an imaginary line on the reapers emissary ledger board and called anyone above that line an exploiter. I just played a 30 hour session with a friend to do a SINGLE achievement and got punished for it.... They used to just let people have their fun if they were exploiting or not as long as it didn't hurt anyone. There has been a shift recently toward this mentality that this game has an economy. That reputation has some sort of prestige to it. Economy only exists in a game with trading. All this game has is cosmetics tied behind long reputation grinds. Punishing people for their own bad programming is rough. Especially when they can't tell the difference between someone actually performing an exploit and someone who just plays 1-2 unhealthily long sessions per season.

  • This is not a problem you can really solve yourself and you can't power through it with better hardware. It's an issue with the game, and I'm sure Rare are fully aware of the performance issues with both client and servers.

  • It's not just you. My friends and I dove to a new server last night, and our ship was jerking back and forth under water violently. We rise up at a seafort. I look at my friend standing on the grate, and he's twitching everywhere for me.

  • I always thought it was my equipment (everything from the router in). I never had problems with my original rig (Intel i7, 2080super GPU), until I upgraded to a 3070ti GPU; then I got lag, rubber banding, freezing, you name it, mainly in graphics intensive games like SoT and PUBG, especially when situations with lots of movement and up/down loading.

After upgrading ALL my interconnects, troubleshooting my hardware, checking soft and firm ware, AND upgrading to the newest most awesome cable router, I decided to try going from cable to fiberoptic (100% to router, then copper interconnects). VOILA!! I cancelled my cable internet and have not looked back. Anybody need a slightly used cable router?
