Can't you just make safer seas as worth it as the higher seas?

  • Now I recently got back to SOT and played safer seas with my friend, the problem being that a big part of the content is not there or not the same, but also while playing higher seas, we can't enjoy the content we want to because every time someone just attacks us and we are not the best at combat nor interested in pvp so we respawn time and time again after continuously being killed which kills the mood completely and just annoys the heck out of us. It is not too fun to be blasted by a blunderbuss and yeeted away from the ship, and then somehow dying by them shooting with it from a mile away all the time. Dont also enjoy the petty gameplay of parking next to an anchored ship and blasting them while they are not on the ship which results in nothing to be done about it... All I wish is to get to peacefully play the same stuff on safer seas, why can I not? Cuz it's easier or something? I'm pretty sure most of the players still want to pvp so it would be no problem. And before someone says that it is part of the game, yes, but it doesn't have to be, and it does drive away people like me. Thanks for coming to my ted talk after getting bullied in-game by some [mod edited] :) Time to stay off the game another year and wait for it to maybe become playable again. Hate the harpoon gun too btw!

  • I think you can make high seas worth it for yourself in 2025.

This wasn't always realistic but it definitely is now. Way more reward, way less risk, way less general pressure on a lot of content in the game outside of the high value stuff.

Imo the mistake people make is thinking they have to like pvp to enjoy high seas. I've pvp'd more than most pvpers just based on play time and play style and I have zero attachment to it. At best it's a buggy and imbalanced thing to do, far from anything I've ever considered excitingly fun. I literally think it's more exciting to hunt a meg or kraken than to have the most intense fights I've ever had in SoT. I dunno if I've felt good about 10 fights since I started getting wins in. I just see it as practice that people take too seriously. Only time I feel good about it is when I assist adventure crews vs skilled pvpers.

On the other side of that I think securing my win conditions is a lot of fun in a shared environment.

Don't take sinking personal, don't take winning so seriously, be considerate of others, let the drama go, embrace what is enjoyable, do awesome stuff. That's all it it takes and everyone can do it, if they really wanna make it work.

If I lose, I'm on a new server and sailing before the winner even starts loading whatever they earned in battle. On to the next, and it always works out eventually.

Losing in a game once in a while is important to the experience, it adds significance to the reward. The randomness creates longevity, doing the same thing over and over again spoils quicker.

  • because every time someone just attacks us

I find this very comment untrue and people who are attacked once or twice in a few hours say it’s too much.

You’re playing an open world game, it was advertised as such. You will meet pirates friend or foe. But to be attacked “everytime”

You are either doing something where another ship needs to be or your showing off treasures you picked up.
And rare made a mistake having your cargo float in barrels after sinking.

  • The game design and intent for Sea of Thieves is a shared world adventure, and it always will be. Those who wish to play in the confines of Safer Seas will always have the option but we will not bring the rewards and activities in line with those of High Seas when many of the restrictions are in place due to the risk vs reward factor that is inherent in Sea of Thieves - removing any risk means rewards must be balanced accordingly.

Safer Seas will act not only as a safe space for our Tall Tale players but also for families with children who just want to pirate, for people who want to play the game but learn the ropes and it will organically feed into Adventure mode, keeping the player pool there healthy and upskilled as they've learned the mechanics.

This is not only useful for new players but also families and players with accessibility needs - the whole game suddenly becomes available in a way it hasn't before, letting them naturally progress to High Seas and become a Pirate Legend. SoT has grown a huge amount in 5 years and it can be fairly overwhelming.

The borders put in Safer Seas mean that to experience the full depth and breadth of the game you will have to hit the high seas BUT if you're playing with your family you don't have to, you can just enjoy the game and have fun as a family.

    Dropping anchor here.
