Auto mic volume adjustments since the newest update

  • Hi there

Since the newest SoT patch my mic automatically adjusts the volume. Most of the time it lowers the volume so much that nobody understands me. It happens on the MS store and the Steam version of the game and it only happens when the game is loaded into a session. Without the game running it doesn't happen. I haven't found out what the issue is. It's running on a W11 PC and I have an USB mic.

    What I've tried so far:

    • disabled exclusively mode for the mic
    • disabled Steam auto adjustment gain
    • disabled Discord auto adjustment gain

Does anybody have an idea what it could be?

  • Same issue, it is the most annoying thing ever. I even fresh installed windows to ensure it was not something I did.

  • Same issue here. I believed it was a Windows issue, but now I narrowed it down to SoT. It is really annoying because it lowers my microphone gain overall, making me very quiet on Discord, OBS records, streaming, etc...

  • @Kusi1981 @Kkthnx @Skeldron hey there guys!

If you want this issue to be fixed, then all of you should send in a support ticket.
(you might have to log in first, then click the link again to be redirected to the form!)

Make sure to provide your hardware info, operating system and which headset/mic you are using.
Each machine / driver config is different.

If you want Rare to be able to get this fixed, you have to take action and report it.
They will not be able to get it fixed, if they can not pinpoint what causes it in the first place.

send in your dxdiag.txt report too, to provide as much hardware info as possible.

  • same issue here, ive sent in a ticket hoping for a response

  • Still not fixed with the season and most recent hotfix :/

    Using a Samson Q2U Microphone.
My only workaround for this has been to install NVIDIA Broadcast and set it as my default communications device so it doesn't get turned down anymore. I wish I could simply use my microphone though.

  • I uninstall windows update Feb 11, 2025 KB5051987 and it stop this from happening.

  • Still an issue here too

  • I'm on os build 26100.1742 without voice focus.

  • Hi there,

I found a solution that worked for me.

If you have a multiple amount of microphones (webcam, laptop built, etc.) Then use WIN+G when in-game, and with gamebar, choose that alternative microphone.

You could also potentially download a software that duplicates your microphone input, like voicemod and use that.

For me, it didn't lower the input on the alternative microphone, used for SoT, neither did it on the main microphone used for Discord. I think the issue was using the same microphone at 2 different places at once.

Currently, I am using my webcam microphone for in-game, and my Blue Yeti for Discord. And everything is perfect in harmony.
