Seasonal Limited-Time Gamemode: Skeleton Fleet Survival Gamemode

  • So, I got an idea for a new Co-Op Voyage/Game mode where crews can vote and then dive just like in Hourglass, and once enough ships have been matched, they will all spawn on a brand new arena with their ships and will have to survive against hordes of Skeleton Ships (maybe at least 10-12 AI Ships) that are either attacking you or has the goal of destroying some kind of VIP/goal that all the crews have to protect.

Its gonna be hard, its gonna be brutal, and all the ships will have to help and assist each other against a common foe for a very lucrative reward, lest they all sink and gain nothing.

Yes, it is basically survival/zombie survival mode, but with Ships.

    IMPORTANT NOTE 1: DETAILS

    • Firstly, this will be a seasonal limited-time event; that means that it will only be available at specific dates or specific times just like community weekend.

    • up to four ships will spawn on an arena, Friendly fire are turned off, and They will have to face Waves of skeleton ships, at least 3-4 skeleton ships for each crew.

    • The enemies will be balanced depending on the size of the player ship - a sloop will face sloop-sized ships and an occasional Skeleton Galleon while a Galleon mainly face groups of skeleton galleons with an occasional skeleton sloop.

    • The enemies will also be different from the standard skeleton ships you find on Adventure mode: You can damage their wheels, Masts and even their cannons temporarily, but they are more aggressive and have a way to board you (through the new bone caller item). They will also guarantee at least a cursed cannonball as storage crate loot when sunk.

    • The players have access to temporary and permanent buffs to themselves and their ships (which only last for one game session) depending on how long they survive and their performance.

    • And most of all, it will be very hard, requiring high amounts of cooperation between ships and sometimes even having to move between each other's ships to save them from sinking.

IMPORTANT NOTE 2: OPEN CREW SITUATION

    • Crews can vote to either be matched randomly, Open Crew-style, or have a way to be matched with fellow Guild ships or even on a set-up crew of friends and party.

This is to minimize the very existent issue of being matched with problematic crews and griefers, because I am pretty sure one of the complaints would be them.

  • @siegnard Hey Pirate !

This really sounds like Sea Dogs Arena, Hourglass, and WE's sat down and had some tea.

Making an endless wave LTM could be fun, but I would rather just get a new World Event. I would rather not have an event that takes place like a Community Weekend.

"up to four ships will spawn on an arena, Friendly fire are turned off" So Arena with extra teammates and an extension of the Skeleton Fleet WE.

    So math is like this,

    1 ships = 3-4 ships

    2 ships = 6-8 ships

    3 ships = 9-12 ships

    4 ships = 12-16 ships

Not including your or your teammates ships in those numbers and simply just AI's, imagine 16 + ships including your own, doing that for multiple rounds. Something else that would be going on, is other pirates doing that same LTM as you at the same time on a different server. Say only 256 pirates out of the millions are going to play this mode, that means you need 64 different servers for 4 different ships for 20 max per server count, not including, but implied repeated rounds of this number cycling through each one of these LTM Servers, that would be horrific.

Not to mention the breeding ground for toxicity to emerge whether pre-selected pirates or open crew.

During any LTM, they are people who want to 1. Enjoy the event as Rare intended. 2. Disrupt other pirates from the event. Both these and other players exist.

In the end, I don't think this suggestion would benefit overall, I do think it would be a cool thing to have, but not cool enough to risk disrupting the pre-existing servers.

    Safe Journeys.

Thanks for the feedback, fellow sea traveler!

Yes you are correct, this is similar to Arena where players are placed into a separate server. And I do see the issue you were sharing on.

Of course I do try to address this especially with the toxicity issue and trying to minimize it by providing multiple ways to set up the teams (ie. Lobby system, Guild) as well as ways to cull it such as:

    • Allowing players to vote-kick problematic players

    • Any players that left the game will still receive rewards proportional to their contribution to the team

and finally the existing report system for players exploiting the kicking system.

But as much as we want to prevent it, toxicity will always exist and we can't prevent ourselves from exploring new things due to a few bad eggs.

On another note, you make a fine point with server loads when housing this LTM. Originally, I have thought that due to this game mode's arena-like area, it will take less resources than what a normal adventure server would be as they do not need to bother about multiple islands, world events, voyages and any extra stuff that happens constantly. Not to mention that if more people play on the LTM there will be less people that are playing on adventure servers, balancing the load.

So to address this (at least on the server load), we could change it so:

    • The maximum amount of ships would be 2, with both of them being galleon.

    • 8 players will be on one galleon, to a total of 16 players on 2 galleons.

    • The amount of skeleton ships will either have to be reduced but make them tougher, or have more of the small ship type such as sloops instead.

This means that there will be less instances of the servers happening at the same time while also optimizing the resources that are used on said LTM.

As for why I wanted this to be only available on a limited time like community events, the reason is to prevent players from getting burnt out super easily and quickly finding the optimal ways to complete the game.

Moreover, having this only being available at specific dates increases the anticipation the player base would get in trying the game mode in the future, increasing the player count especially when the LTM is active.

I have seen what had happened to Arena, Hourglass as well as the Siren Song, and these are one of the few things to try to prevent the same thing happening to this game mode.

  • My guess is something like this is coming for guilds. You have a guild hideout with flag ships in it, three of each type. Your guild memebers vote on the ship they wish to serve on. While your waiting tdm is turned on in the fort to pass the time.

Once all three are full the ships dive to the battle area aganist another guild with the same load out of ships or a guild that acceped a challege. Combat area is an expanded HG area on a standard server with loot spawn (except kegs) turned off. Or an assult on the rival guilds hideout. Sudden death, once your ship sinks you are out.

I like your idea a lot.

    Question;
Given this idea creates a lot of action & chaos, I'm sure it's going to attract PvP players.
Troll crews just being there to target the other player ships specifically. Is this an intended part of the idea?

Hmm, there might be a little misunderstanding here as the idea I have was purely PvE.

Although, having a PvP version might be interesting as well, especially as a variant of a standard hourglass.

As for the troll crews, friendly fire on your own ship will have to be turn off or if it is not possible, we will have to go back to the vote kick system to cull down on them.
