That Time I Became An Accidental Pirate

  • Last night, I decided to push myself beyond my normal PvE Lord behaviour and embrace mayhem.

After someone had recovered the Skull of Siren Song from a voyage, I saw my opportunity to have a go. After all, it's opt-in PvP and that's well within the scope of my morals and empathic bounds.

The poor fellow solo slooper managed to give me the run around as I blocked their path to Crook's Hollow. Close to the island they went for a ram, and I saw the ashen glow pirate leap from the aft shortly after. I followed their plunge and took my chance to callously dispatch them under the ocean waves, before delivering the skull to its destination.

Returning to my sloop, I was surprised that the Owl of Minerva was unscathed by the ordeal. I felt pity as I spotted the other pirate on the horizon but they vanished before I could offer to help them secure the next one - this one was just an exercise, at the end of the day.

But that wasn't the end of the day...

An in-game day or so later, a second skull was uncovered by another poor soul. This time my mission was only to make it exciting for them... not to steal it (they seemed relatively new).

Sometimes, these Sea of Thieves have other plans.

I managed to pursue them towards Cannon Cove. As we clashed at North Star Seapost, I had my plan to sink to them. And as I took on water they boarded, I told them I wouldn't contest and saluted them, wishing them luck as I sank to the depths. Their mercy was probably misplaced for, as I surfaced, I spotted their ship sinking, also.

The unlucky pirate disappeared but I boarded my free floating rowboat and gathered my supplies, expecting their return. Surprisingly, I could not spot them anywhere on the horizon. What was I to do? The storm was overhead at this point. I rescued the skull and rowed it to Cannon Cove.

    My second steal. An accident.

But karma follows pirates on the seas. I later got into a protracted fight with a duo after I'd almost downed the skeleton fleet captain. Although much experience was learned, and practice gained, I ultimately lost to a deserving crew.

  • @realstyli Not gonna lie, I love your ship name. Did you get inspiration for it by Athena's Fortune, The Pirate Lord's ship, or did you come up with it on your own? Either way I respect the correct symbol to Minerva.

    Thank you.

I came up with it on my own, though it's not my first sloop - my "main" sloop would be the Gráinne Mhaol. I've always been fascinated by Minerva though, being the goddess of wisdom and the arts especially, and I released an album called Mass For Minerva in 2008. My Baldur's Gate III character is even called Avrenim Folwoeht. So the Owl of Minerva was high on the list of potential shipnames.

The link with Athena's Fortune is purely coincidental but I do like that!

Oh ok. I thought that since Minerva was the Roman version of Athena, there might be a connection. You are much more creative when it comes to naming ships than I am, I mean I named one of my sloops The Bullet cuz of it's size, though I'm renaming it when I get the ancient coins, I named my other sloop The Food Sloop cuz I wanted to use it to sell food to players, I namedy brig The Diamond Dagger based off it's size and Minecraft, and I named my galleon The Diamond Pearl based off Pirates of the Caribbean and Minecraft. Also, you're welcome
