Skull of Siren Song Ship Respawn... bugged?

  • I have been through 3 full siren song quests today, and one of them was far more annoying than the others. This one sloop kept running with the chest, and only dropped it after 20 minutes of chasing. Then when I get the key, he came back and kept on trying to race me to the island to cut me off, and I was able to sink him and kill him on land while my skull was on my ship... and when I go to get back, his ship was back at Lonely Isle while the turn in was at Lone Cove. He stole the skull and only turned it in when I got back to him just to mock me and say "I am bad."

The next skull quest comes on and I manage to get the chest first. but the guy from the first mission kept coming back (same server), and I sunk him a few added times. Each time, he was around 1 island away, and came back. This happened 4 or 5 times. But he eventually gave up when I grabbed supplies at a sea fort nearby and left.

And then the last quest, two ships were going against one another, and this was right by the Sea Dog Tavern. Immediately after, the same ship that sunk spawned at Shipwreck Bay, and was super close to where I engaged the other ship... nothing else of note, save for after I stole the skull back, and my ship sank in the process, I was spawned at Devil's Roar, when I sank at Snake Island.

I am just... a little annoyed at this, and admittedly it did make me salty when the first guy mocked and kept coming back in the first and second stories. Why is it that when someone who accepted the skull of siren song quest is sunk, they spawn at the nearest island to where they sank? I also was watching some twitch streamers doing it, and it seems that the ships they sunk return swiftly after. Am I the only one who noticed that, or is this a wider scale issue?

  • It's by design, it is not supposed to be easy.

  • I have noticed the same thing, but since I was on a galleon, we were able to send the skull carrier onto the island with 2 body guards to sell while the helm distracted the reoccurring attackers.

I have to say that the enemy spawn locations being so close is very annoying, but I think it would be less of an annoyance if the payoff for selling was better, because right now the risk and reward are now equal.

  • @whalelordgames I wouldn't mind if the enemy ship sunk was like... 2 islands away at the very least. But how it is now, the same ship could keep coming in to attack and have you drain supplies while they keep getting "restocked" each time they are sunk. Unless you stock on every island, sea fort, and ghost/skelly fleet event, there is a fairly good chance you'd burn through your supplies with repeated harassment.

  • @rustypyrate yeah you’re right, it’s especially bad when you are against the wind on a galley, you’d be surprised how slow you go. I haven’t had the same problem as you have had to the extent you described, but I can definitely see why it’s a huge annoyance. They should just keep the ship re spawn distances for the event the same as default.

  • @whalelordgames The only time I didn;t noticed a respawned ship superclose was a brig I sunk... because they voted up hourglass

  • I thought it was siren song issue, but it doesnt seem to be exclusive to that either.
Yesterday I was diving and after the fight a galleon jumped us.
They did have an empty siren song chest on board and the quest itself was not active at this server.
I sunk them 3 times in total. They kept spawning 1 or 2 islands away every time.

  • It'll be interesting to see what gets tinkered with on this voyage.

Tinkering with respawns based on feedback won't hurt the content

I hope they don't extend the the distance from skull to delivery. That'll be what harms appeal.

  • @papatankers2041 Interesting... wonder how or why they changed it to be more annoying with how close they spawn.
