We need to have flags that show the relative status of ships in an alliance. Currently, the best we can do is raise the reapers mark to signal that we need help. I would love to have a “distress flag” that would mark the location of a ship on the map table that needs help. Only map tables from other ships in the alliance would be able to see it. In addition, having another flag to signal an alliance meeting or a regroup could also be implemented. I don’t see any downsides to this idea, but feel free to weigh in.

It actually would be kind of fun to see the status of other ships so you could chose to join in the fight or not.
Right now we have an option that allows us to see what action our crewmate is doing if close enough to see their gamertag. You can see that they are in a fight of some kind by the red sword icon next to their gamertag.
Imagine if there was something similar to visible ships. Not just your alliance ships, but any ship visible on the map. Maybe it would make their ship have a red outline or something.
This could be used in multiple ways. You could choose to help or betray, you could help then betray. It would just add another element that gave the choice to interact with more people.
Right now what I do is watch a ship I can see on the map and if they seem to be sailing in combat pattern(typically circular sailing with some random straight paths then turns) I will often sail over to get sight lines. Then make my choice. If they are fighting off a skeleton ship that's too large for them I'll often sail past and hit a few shots or cannon off to board the skeleton ship to protect holes for them.
If they are fighting another ship I'll decide if I want to 3rd party or not. Sometimes I just watch, I find it fun to see 2 crews battle it out if they are pretty evenly matched.

If a ally is that far away, are they going to make it in time to help anyway?

@burnbacon @Foambreaker I kinda like the idea though. Could make for some tragic stories (you arrive and relize they already sunk), or something like if I put out a distress signal and someone respnded with a "I'm coming" flag, then I would try to stay alive and stall rather than making a last stand. Just imagine the storytelling possibilities!
