Things are getting out of hand. Fly hacking, teleporting kegs, bucketing water from their ship onto yours even when your not in range. I have spent nearly 1 year in game (over 330 days), and have enjoyed playing on open servers (non xbox only). Sadly with the game not having an anti cheat, and having lost the ability to write supoort tickets or report cheaters manually, it has become beyond frustrating running into hackers on a weekly basis while doing hour glass. In the past cheating was for the most part limited to aimbot/wall hacks which people tried to hide, but recently it seems the cheaters are just all out rage hacking. Having stuck by this game through the years I hope something can be done. Please save us with an anti cheat
Fix the cheating
I'm pretty sure they, just the other day, made a statement about the state of the game. It's not like they're ignoring the issue, but it's not an overnight "fix" either. It's not even a "fix", cheating cannot be "fixed" and stopped entirely, it's an uphill battle. For every countermeasure game companies and anti-cheats put out, cheat devs will just try their best to work around it somehow.
I was in the first 200 pirates to get the skeleton curse, have met no cheaters the first week. After 2-3 weeks things changed and had at least 1 cheating crew per evening session. My crew and I stopped playing the game since, now only logging in to finish these time limited events.
The cheating issue, unstable servers, hit reg, desync together with the lack of proper action from Rare killed the game for us.Cheating mainly happens with Steam which has no built in anti-tampering solutions like Microsoft Store does, any anti-cheat like EAC for example would make 98% of the current cheats obsolete.
Current SOT is like a house with open doors and no one home, actually a house with no doors(since the game is not developed with any security in mind besides the server side checks), which means you don't have to worry about getting in and staying in without getting caught.
Hopefully it'll get better at some points...
Ahoy @lt-josh84 !
We appreciate your feedback, however, the best way players can bring cheaters to our attention is by raising a support request. This helps us assess numbers, categorise issues and develop solutions accordingly. Here is a guide on how to do it.
Our Team is actively working to mitigate the issues people are seeing. You can learn more about recent progress in combating cheating and toxic behaviour in our Fair Play Update here. We also addressed this several months ago in our SoT Podcast.
As links have been provided to both our support website where these problems can be reported, and to our response as a studio to the problems we know our players are facing, I will be dropping anchor here. Thanks.
