  • Utilise the Looking for Group Feature on Xbox or Looking for Crew channels in the official SoT Discord (or the many other SoT Discord Groups) to find like-minded people to sail with.

  • @thor-von-blitz Could you name another game with millions of players where you would need to use external program in order to find likeminded people for an activity? (not saying those options don't work, nor that there is a perfect way to make a flawless one in-game) I personally got tired of the LFG on Discord, it did seem a lot better than open crew and what people write about it, but for me, being 30+ (not that I would have tolerated same things at 12 either) and listening to kids behaving childish , people asking if we wanna play cod, people who join the crew then abruptly leave, people who join the crew agree on activity than change their mind...Sometimes it takes longer than the activity we wanted to do in the first place.

Obviously had good games with it too, but it's another chore, before supplying the ship chore.

I just wanna hop in game, Click open crew, Click create/join (captained), Select Faction/Hourglass Faction, select activity - Search.

So even if I join some kids but they have same goal and they are not burning their own ship down or kegging their own ship, im fine with that. It's not much to ask from a flagship game imo.

  • @kingslayes17 this would get abused by bad actors. Sorry, they won’t add it.

  • how tf dont we have a kick bottun for the capitain

Think of this on the other foot.

I join your crew, I speak and chat. We spend a solid hour completing voyages and rack up a good hoard of gold and stuff. Some even hard to get stuff, your happy. On our way to the outpost, your friend wants to join you. So...As captain you kick me, just so your friend can join.

    Is that Fair?

  • @kingslayes17 there are already avenues for you to search for people who wouldn't waste your time (discord, xbox, forums etc), or atleast lessen the chance of it by a lot.

A kick feature would be abused by people to

    • kick the stranger in the group, mid-quest for a friend to join

    • kick noobs (who are clueless or innocent)

    • kick anyone who is different (language barrier etc)

  • Consider this! You join a ship, seems like a good crew, you put down a gilded voyage or find something rare on your travels and suddenly you get kicked so the crew can invite another friend of theirs to get the rewards.

Sounds like a bad situation and a lot worse than just "oh, this guy is afk/doesnt talk" doesnt it?

If you dont want a mixed bag of afk, possible trolls, or no mic players, there are places to find a crew with common interests, namely a wide variety of discord servers. If you dont like open crew, recruit one.

  • Don't kick the bottoms. Lol.

Spell check is a wonderful device if you train it properly....

  • @thor-von-blitz --> People always say the answer is the looking for group feature but in reality you spend hours messaging groups with little to no reply. Open Crew just consists of toxic crew mates that would rather try and kill the captain of their own crew then actually do anything fun or productive. I have spent literally an hours on multiple occasions either trying to keep the sail up or the anchor down while a crew mate tried to ram into things. or a crew member sets fire to the ship or takes all supplies and leaves with NO repercussions. @RARE needs to try to fix this. Absolutely NO attempts have been made. They say multiple attempts and a ban will be enforced but if that were the case there would not be this many people still trolling their own crews.

  • @goldsmen ''Tools not rules''

Imagine you buy a car, pick up hitchhiker for some company, then you see 4 of your best mates need a ride...

Hitchhiker could have always taken the public bus?

    Crazy...

  • @machikane true but people go afk so much or dont communicate so its imposible to play sometimes

This isnt real life, nor is that comparible. If you put down a voyage and got kicked, it would be more comparible if say, the hitch hiker paid you to bring them somewhere specific, and right afterward you kicked them out of the car to spend that money with your friends. Which no sane or decent person would do.

Open crew is already bad enough, if you got kicked out the moment you saw a shrouded ghost so some one could get their friends in on it, that would be upsetting, frustrating, and beyond disrespectful and toxic on behalf of the person who kicked you.

What would you think if you joined a ship and just stole a fof or some one who has been stacking veils, only to get kicked so the hosts friends would reap the rewards? Or if you saw your first shrouded only to get kicked. Im willing to bet you would be pretty angry. You have to think of it from the view point of getting kicked, not from the view point of "Hey! I would rather play with some friends!" because theres already a way to play with friends without having to kick some one out.

The problem is the strangers, not the mechanism.

The solution is guilds. PuGs are horrible in all games.

Sadly Rare seems to struggle with the multiplayer aspects of their game.

  • @goldsmen Well you need a real life computer and real life hours to purchase your own captained ship. Where you and only you is the owner. Just like putting up an emissary flag you take a risk...

What I propose you join an open crew (noob) uncaptained (no kick) / (veteran) captained at your own risk(can get kicked as someone acctually owns the flipping ship). Otherwise get your own ship and be in charge of it.

Also arguing against to support the most broken feature, that is constantly bringing negative feedback just because of some imaginary scenario is beyond me. How about we give it a try and see how many pirates would even encounter what you wrote? ''what if you stack 5 fotd, take fof, shrouded ghost attacks and your best friend decides to join'' What if not and most encounters are players meeting complete idiots who set their ship on fire so non of these fof can even happen? Perhaps lets sort that out and then try to sort out some imaginary scenario that is rarely ever going to happen, most people quit this game, not get ready at moments notice to run up and down to sell some chests....When are open crews the ones taking FOF when the whole server is after it? When was your last time that your scenario is the sole reason of blocking a feature that would improve this game?

Also easy solution, if you own a captained ship you can join a captined open crew, if you don't its a public one and you can't kick anyone, also anyone can join this one? Please go ahead and find arguments how someone can win the lottery and kick out their teammate and this is how its gonna be all the time too.

And once again, I'm pretty angry already, as the most important feature in this game to have a flipping crew, is reliant on third party service like xbox/discord.

Imagine trying to play any other game and you can't even have a team, so you need to go online to get one, then run around to collect supplies, then run around the whole map to get the treausure, then maybe sink or not..Ok fair enough ,sounds fun for some(me as an example), gets boring quick for most.

...And that game would then make a facebook/twitter post how many million players are already playing it..make a 1 hour documentary how awesome they are and how much of a 'sorry' storry that became a success they are. how some people got married running the company, how some blind guy plays the game (I really would like to talk about this one more with the double gunning meta, but lets leave it, shall we),...then try to think how much it costs to run a service, have so many employees and we still dont have proper anti cheat, hit reg, new content, and lots of fundamental flaws, but we constantly have reskins and pirate emporium updates, anything else takes about 1 year, which would be fine if there was more depth and solid gameplay to begin with...

PS. Once the guilds come out, and you have griefing guild members or people who just quit the game taking up the limited space. Then you can kick anyone out obviously, no problems about kicking ''innocent folk to make space for friends'' - looking at streamers here?

We will have to wait and see what guilds will offer before anything could even be said on how they work. But if they do work like in other games, it doesnt really compare much still. I will hold the stance that if you would rather play with friends than random people, theres a better option than kicking people out.
