Hello everyone I believe that the appearance of mermaids and sirens does not correspond to the mythological image.
They should be beautiful. There should be no men among these creatures.
Sirens are demonic creatures that lured sailors with their sweet-voiced singing.
And mermaids were always beautiful girls.
Today's image of a mermaid who returns to the ship even scares me.

@stnslvkhrtnv you are correct sir, merMAIDS where always female, however they are part of the merFOLK and within the merfolk race (which is in sot lore is actually more of a curse) there is mermaids and mermen
Just like we have male and female amongst humans they also have different genders.
Then there is the sirens which, in sot lore, are merfolk that got afflicted by an illness (the whispering plague) which was really detrimental and warps their very being.
Also in irl mythology not all sirens/merfolk are pretty, it was mostly their song that would lure sailors to run into rocks and got shipwrecked
In the mini-documentary they talk about how the art style of Sea of Thieves is colloquially called "wonky" in the studio. Our pirates (and the other denizens) are stylized to have something wrong with them: broken nose, asymmetrical face, et cetera.
The fact that the mermaids are as beautiful as they are already makes them meet your standard, compared to the other entities.
