Obsidian / Midnight / Ebon Item Availability

    It's a sad day to hear that partners are no longer able to give away Obsidian 6-packs and Capstans. After lasts year's ORB stream being a huge dissapointment for those of us still hoping to get some missing Obsidian items to complete the set, this news is incredibly disheartening.

    Please bring some more promotions for the Obsidian ship parts, they have been impossible to get via giveaways. Lots of players are still looking to complete their sets, obviously myself included.

    Twitch drops have been a nice way to get some of the items, yet there have not been any Obsidian items given away in a long time! Please add at least one Obsidian item per drops rotation!

    @nit890 partners can still give away obsidian six packs and capstans.

    They can no longer give out codes

    For these giveaways they dont give out codes they give your gamertag to rare and they add it to your account

    As someone who still needs several parts to complete the obsidian set, I think it should be a good idea to give away at least one obsidian item per twitch drop rotation.

    Example: Right now twitch drops are the eastern winds set, if they did this the obsidian pistol would become available via drops, then in the next rotation (whatever that set would be called) another piece would be added.

    I don't have an issue with drops or something like the capture a code thing here on the forums but I find the giveaways to often be quite predatory as they are imbalanced in benefit.

    They are used to artificially bump activity and have people jumping through hoops for often times years where only one side of that arrangement is truly benefiting.

    Sure, small channels have better odds than larger channels but overall I see it as a negative for the community. I personally don't like to see what it puts people through chasing stuff in that way and I don't think it actually does much positive other than for a group that personally benefits from the low supply and high demand.

    Pretty sure after today's announcement that this is no longer true starting Feb. 1, hence the OPs post.

    Interesting, I wonder if it is time limited or a "from now on" type thing. The wording seems like it could lean either way. Or maybe it's the introduction of a new system where they will introduce a new item every few months.

    @abjectarity Pretty sure it's a straight up replacement. Unless they increase the amount of 'giveaways' that partners are able to do it's unlikely that you'll see a lot of these sails on the seas so having a rotation makes very little sense.

    Weird that they would announce this so suddenly and at the same time not let streamers give away like 50-100 codes for each since this would be the last chance to get them.

    The fact that the entire obsidian ship set -Capstan was from twitch drops and the only way you could get the capstan was giveaways and they only let streamers giveaway 1 a month..... That's insanity. Honestly it's the only reason I even watch twitch. While I love the idea of the platform I hate actually watching streams. So unless these new cosmetics are INSANE I am pretty much only going to tune in during drops and not care about the new giveaway cosmetics. (commented before I saw the picture in response, rip twitch I guess lol don't care about the new stuff...)

    I only wanted to complete my obsidian set...

    Also I know people have talked about it before but the whole nonsense of the obsidian set being named different things and split on ways you can get them from Chips ahoy to 6 pack codes to buying a SoT controller despite being called midnight blunderbus we all know its obsidian....

    With what we currently know I think a lot of people will be doing this as well.

    There will always be people looking to peacock and willing to jump through hoops but I don't think these specific sails will move the needle much. Universal appeal just isn't there imo.

    The are unlikely to be main sails for people. They are fine quality but they don't have the "I wish I had those" design factor like some of the other cosmetics do.

    With the oreo sails out there people have sails to peacock with (and no requirement to have been around forever or paid big bucks for it) without dealing with what people gotta deal with in giveaways.
