Some of my friends and I are having problems with the hot mic where it sounds awful. Its not my microphone or any of my settings because my mic works perfect on discord and FL Studios. I think this problem started at around the time when they added Season 8. Can anyone help me out. :(
Hot Mic Problem
Not sure what you mean by awful but try a few things out:
First, I know u said its not ur mic, and might be the game but mines works well and I've played with many people who don't have any issues either so its hard to believe that it's the game's fault. Not saying it isn't and it shouldn't be suspected, for sure it still is, especially since u say ur friends have the same issue, but lets not discount the possibility that it may be ur set up. To this I say send out a bug report and see what process Rare might send you through.
Otherwise, I recommend u do research before following my advice on each point I make. I have ur best interest at heart, so I won't outright ask u to download or uninstall anything. However, I'm just a random person with no actual professional expertise on the matter. What I do have, and I do provide is personal experience.
Here are my solutions
-
Play around with the in game audio settings, perhaps there is a feedback loop and may need to change audio input/ output.
-
Play around with ur pc sound and audio settings, perhaps there is a feedback loop and u may need to change ur pc audio/ input settings
-
Make sure ur audio drivers/ audio softwares/ mic/ headphones/ speakers/ etc... are up to date. These are easy fixes but are also easy to miss.

Not sure what pc set up u run but, theirs a really nasty software program called "Nahimic services" Make sure you turn them off by searching "devices" on your pc. I've had issues with it crashing Sea of thieves and a few other of my games. To get an idea of what this program does I will explain it below in detail so that u feel safe shutting it off as well as why it may be the cause of ur mic issues and the extensive issues I and others have had with it.
Note: Nahimic service is a 3rd party program downloaded by your pc/motherboard provider and supported by Microsoft. Its function is gaming sound optimization. It is not required nor does it affect sound, it simply optimizes it if you ever choose to do so through that program... most people don't use it and in my opinion it's absolute trash. It works like malware tbh since it clashes with so many games, reducing FPS, and crashing them. Since ur pc provider downloads it and Microsoft supports it, it will try to activate in ur computer every time u update ur pc unless u specify to it that u want it deactivated and never to be installed back without ur permission. It can not be deleted/ uninstalled from ur pc because it wormed it's way into ur pc main storage files, same place u will find locked data such as motherboard and OS operating files required for the pc to run. In other words, these files are locked among the other important Core Storage files. Even if u do manage to uninstall it by means of unlocking said files/ contacting Microsoft, I've heard of multiple cases where the program either pops up somewhere else or the program exists in multiple areas at any given time. So yeah, I recommend skipping uninstalling or deletion and just deactivate it as I've mentioned before. I've had it deactivated for years and have experienced smooth gaming since then except a few months ago when for some reason windows updated and decided to remove my "deactivation" command by introducing an additional button that makes it so if u press it then the pc will not try to reactivate it during updates... before u clicked deactivate and it stayed like that through updates, they just added more steps to remove annoyances. My issue is with crashes, but because it's a sound optimization device, it may just be the reason u have issues with ur sound as it is clashing with another sound optimization program. For whatever reason u want this cursed and downright disgusting program to run in ur pc, because u didn't delete it, u can always re activate the program and all it's ugly fingers to take hold of ur pc for better or worse, without any issues to ur pc.

Make sure Fl studios isn't clashing with Sea of Thieves or ur mic settings, I've heard situations a long time ago where FL studios caused issues with some games. I have installed and have not had any issues, nor have I seen issues from other with Fl studios affecting this game specifically but situations have arisen with other games. Make sure other sound programs aren't affecting the game or ur mic/ speaker/ audio pc settings.
-
Make sure firewall isn't affecting the game whatsoever (Including audio)
7.It may be that ur issue is different from ur friends and ur mic or headphones are damaged. This is the worst case scenario and only place it here because it could be a reason although far fetched, I'd likee to believe. Still, it is a possibility and an outlining cause to bad mic issues for many players.

If you're on PC, this is an issue with the samplerate of your mic/input.
The Season 8 update broke support for 44.1KHz devices. If your mic/input can support 48KHz switch to that.
- Right-click on the sound icon on your taskbar (bottom right)
- Go to Sounds
- Click on the Recording tab
- Find the input you are using as your Default Communication Device
- Right-click on it and go to Properties
- Under the Advanced tab, you will see a dropdown which shows formats supported by your device. Select 48000Hz (DVD Quality) from the list, if available.
That should fix the issue.
If your device doesn't support 48KHz, then you may need to use another program to upsample it.
If you have an Nvidia RTX card and RAM to spare, then I recommend using Nvidia Broadcast. Simply add your device as the input and then in your Recording devices (mentioned above), set the Nvidia Broadcast Virtual Microphone as your Default Device and Default Communication Device.
If you don't have an RTX card, Voicemeeter might work as an alternative, but that will take some configuring.
