Option To Unequip Built-In Character Vanity

  • I'm sure we're all aware that when you choose a pirate, they come with some built-in unique features such as make-up and scars. Now my suggestion, is that Rare should add the ability to unequip such features. This would make sense because you can equip all kinds of face paint and makeup on your pirate whenever you want. But why not have the option to remove it entirely? Same goes for scars. You can put any scar you earned on your pirate whenever you feel like doing so, now what makes removing them so different? I'm well aware of Rare's decision to make all pirates unique by having the Infinite Pirate Generator, whilst removing the insane amount of time people would spend on making them. But the logic is actually backwards. People who want their "Perfect Pirate", spend hours and hours looking through the wheel just to be unsatisfied because of one unchangeable feature. Now uncertainty like that could easily be mitigated by adding the option to remove them. This is a change I'm surprised hasn't been added yet, but I really hope this thread gets enough attention so that the developers will consider it. I'm sure that I'm not the only one who thinks this needs to be added, and it's a small change that could do a lot for some people. Anyways thanks to anyone who decided to read all the way through this, and please comment so I can hear your guys' thoughts. :)

  • I think the IPG needs a little re-work in itself. Having it function like a slideshow works fine but each pirate wearing different cloths and doing different poses while choosing doesn't allow the user to fully see what they're getting. Instead have the pirates be in their undergarments or at the very least a shirt and pants and make Scars/Makeup a toggle on/off feature while choosing.

This to me would be a better option than what we have at the moment.

  • @crisis508
Honestly, the only change I care to see in the IPG is a button to toggle on and off your current outfit (I need to see this pirate as a crab) when you drink a potion.

Yeah but we dont have that many scars to begin with.

People who want their "Perfect Pirate", spend hours and hours looking through the wheel just to be unsatisfied

This falls under a players own personal problem. Instead of just enjoying the game and jump in quicker, they rather spend game time...playing Sims.

  • @burnbacon I can agree with you that there are very little scars in the game, but my point still stands. What if you don't want scars on your character at all, but you end up getting a pirate with irremovable scars on on them? There's nothing you can do to control that. And your comparison to Sims doesn't make to much sense. As someone who's played Sims, the character creator in that game is no where near being close to the IPG in SoT. In the Sims you are completely free to change whatever feature you want on your Sim, while the SoT character creator is a gambling wheel. All I'm asking is that we get a little more freedom in our pirate creation, this change might not be for everybody, but the same goes for many other changes they make to the game. I appreciate hearing your thoughts on the matter.

  • @imdinonuggie I completely agree with this. The idea of the wheel is ok, but I'd like to know what I'm getting when I pick a pirate. And maybe a gender filter could work to, because that could help speed up the process.

  • I agree. I would like to be able to shave off my character's stubble but that is sadly something im permanently stuck with due to lack of options. I think the pirate generator needs a complete rework, at the very least to let us choose filters for what is generated.

Right now it feels like a slot machine.
