Please make all outposts a safe zone or a temp safe zone

  • Hello, I'm a new player. Please make all outposts a safe zone for ships selling treasures because one of the biggest downsides of your game is that after a long treasure hunt which can take hours, other players can waste all that effort on outposts. You can also make it a temp safe zone for 10 or 15 minutes (no one should stay there forever doing nothing) so players can sell their stuff.

Please, don't say our game is about pirates and pirates do that in real life...this is not RL!. It's a game! and you made it to gain money from it. Which means that it has to be modified over time to get different people with different tastes and abilities to join in and enjoy it. And I think it's time to do that because your game now is a heaven for griefers. Players should be rewarded with a well deserved break when they reach the outposts because they have spent hours collecting treasures, fighting against other ships & npc's. I can't remember how many times I've seen this happen or it happened to me.

You made your game almost impossible for new players to enjoy because it's a long & continuous grinding process without any safe zone! You can even get killed by other players when you activate an adventure! Or tall tale which is a story mode, guys! (Story mode in any other game is completely separate from the online)

Outposts should be like your camp in RDR or your garage in GTA Once you get there, you can't be killed and your stuff can't be destroyed or stolen also you can't kill other players or steal/destroy their stuff. A similar example to make things easier to current players and attract new players is what Fortnite has done recently. Everyone knows that Fortnite is (build and shoot). Many weren't able to do that and I was one of them that's why i never played it but now they have introduced a no build mode and a lot of new players joined their game because of that tweak. What I want to say is: It's no a shame to make your game a little bit easier, more interesting and enjoyable for everyone, not just hard core players.

Personally, I find it hard to keep playing when almost every time I get attacked in outposts. Sooner rather than later I will stop.

Let me summarize what I suggested in a few points:
1- Ships shall not be sunk in outposts.
2- No ship can fire at another ship or its crew inside the outposts & the other way around.
3- Players shouldn't be able to kill other players or get killed in outposts.

All the 3 points may be subject to a time limit....Enough time to sell fgs!

PS: I know some players like to kill each other for fun or for training while they are on the outposts. they can do that on any other island or wait for the 15 min to end.

    Thank you.

  • Then someone can just escape from a ship to an outpost and sell. That would make PVP pointless as escaping in this game is pretty easyl

  • Welcome to the Sea's Matey! Your frustrations are understood, we've all been there at some point in our lives. All i can really say is this is the way the cookie crumbles, out there on the Ocean there is no safe zones, there are no nets, you're at risk all the time for good reason, and trust me, you'll get used to it. I can offer tips to make the sting of this sort of thing better however:

    • Always remember, no piece of loot is yours until you have sold it and gotten the reward. You may work for it, put it on your ship, guard it for hours, but that loot is not yours, just in your possession. Once you get that to an outpost and have given it to the right representative, the work is done for that piece of loot. The risk is ever present even as you sell, in fact, that is why selling is "slow" it's to make it tense, make you learn to be efficient!
    • Piggy backing off that, NEVER stack hours of loot, if you're not ready to lose it in less than 60 seconds. This game is unpredictable in both PVP and PVE ways. The best way to secure those rewards and that loot is to sell every chance you get, and as you get more comfortable, you can start selling only when you feel it's necessary. But when starting out, passing every outpost counts as necessary! It's better to sell a little than to lose a lot.
    • Always keep an eye on the horizon, and if you see a ship anywhere in the distance, you have roughly up to 5 minutes safetime even if they have already decided to bear down on you. Obviously less time the closer the ship is, but keep a weathered eye on the horizon and you'll always see a ship before it's coming!
    • Finally, a little point i like to tell people now as an older player: Don't worry about losing "progress"!. This game has a LOT to do all the time now, and if you lose loot/potential money, it isn't a loss at all. If you had fun playing, enjoyed the journey, etc. You lose nothing, you only gain! You gain a reason to boot the game up again. Even if you're working towards a cosmetic or commendation, desperately close and someone sinks the haul you need to reach it, they've only given you more playtime. Enjoy the journey, because you make your own destinations in this game. And it's all the more worth it when you know you've worked for it.

All works out in the end, take every chance you can to improve and learn to take it easy in this game! It's possible it might not be for you and that's okay but if you stick with it, the Sea's will welcome you with open arms, it might just occasionally put a dagger in your back, but that's okay!

  • It never ceases to amaze me how some gamers want to turn SOT into a copy to other sandbox games. SOT is unique as premise, gameplay and visual style so let's keep it that way.

  • Hi @callmexzibit

I play with this game since April 9th, and I expreienced the same feeling as you....still frustrating, still annoying...sometomes cause rage in our head, but we can do nothing about it.

It's a part of the game, if you meet humble/friendly, funny, or neutral players on the sea...besides there are [Mod Edit] childish and traitor-like players as well, unfortunately. (Similar to real life, isnt it? :) ) Thats why I don't trust anyone, and choosed the "deffensive-avoid" playstyle when I play alone.
I won't give you advices, cause @Silentkiller646 said the best ones already. I would like to note a thing: This game is really unique, and not for everyone. Cause the intense PvP, multiple composition community, direct contact with players, freeroam all time (except Pirate's Life) etc.

I slowly getting used to it, you know...not that hard.
    Best Regards

  • We understand your pain, but that is no reason to make outposts safe. The biggest issue with safe zones are players being able to just head there and be perfectly fine after being chased and are about to lose the loot onboard their ship. There are other examples, but that is the biggest one.

The only thing you can do is persevere. It's hard, at first, we all know, but it's best to get some PvP practice in at the beginning too. I involuntarily did that and it has been such a big help for sailing and defending/ attacking.

    Good luck!

...and yet none of this would stop a crew from sailing in (or camping), grabbing your most prized loot, and then selling it for themselves. With your rules, the moment they nabbed your treasure, you wouldn't be able to stop them because you won't be able to kill them, sink their ship, or even attack them. Seems like a way worse scenario, if you ask me.

It's called Sea of Thieves for a reason, matey. Part of the work is protecting the loot that's in your possession. So, get to work learning defense, or I'll feed you to the fishes!

    Sell often.
We wont, its a PvpvE game type, meaning its a 'Game' where both are allowed. Also, Risk=Reward.

No. Remeber it's not about your golden pixel prize money.

Ask yourself the question, was the long treasure hunt fun? If you answer yes, then there is no issue. You had fun. That's what the game is for. If you didn't, then why are you playing?

This is a pirate game. That involves stealing in any way. Learn to be vigilant and don't sell if another ship is present.

Please, don't say our game is about pirates and pirates do that in real life...this is not RL!. It's a game!

    It's a game about Pirates!

It's a SHARED WORLD PVPVE game about Pirates.

You bought a game called Sea of THIEVES why did you not expect Thieves?

  • It still shocks me that people care so much about fake gold, especially now when its so easy to get

  • @callmexzibit
Couldn't the other crew just hop onto your ship and sell your treasure? You couldn't stop them.

  • @callmexzibit
jeez! I sent that suggestion as a ticket directly to the support service but they emailed me and asked me to post it here for consideration. I told them ok I posted it already but I hope I don't get trolled because that's how gaming forums work. You rarely get a useful reply in the forums! 99% of the time you receive sarcastic responses from old players who think that they know everything & their game is unique enough not to be updated. Then they use the word "sandbox" and don't even know what "sandbox" means... They have no idea that SOT itself is a sandbox game...Google it.

The way I see it,!THE HOURS! you spent chasing them and failed to get them before they make it to the outpost is more than enough to announce them the winners... and they have the right to celebrate their win in front of you. but as I said: The game is heaven for griefers! those who think that killing someone who does a tall tale is unique!

    no more forums, bye lol

  • @callmexzibit a few tips so you don’t lose the loot you have found on the seas
    •check your horizons for ships
•turn in often don’t hoard loot
•don’t trust other crew just cuz they say their friendly
•the loot you have found either from quests or just laying around ISN’T yours until it is turned into the correct person by you or your crew
•everyone has loot stolen from them everyone get sunk don’t take it personally
•can’t out fight a crew out smart the crew

I think this is the biggest takeaway here.

This could have been settled by whoever handled the support ticket, rather than directing OP to waste their time writing a post that we see ad nauseum already.

It seems like theres a disconnect somewhere. I've seen other threads before like this, or on topics of spawncamping, toxicity or quickswapping. OP reaches out to support, and support passes the buck onto the forums, and the forum mods either lock it & direct OP to a megathread or official statement, or give them the ol' "cases are reviewed by each handler, individually," spiel before bouncing them back to support.

I think it'd be better for the playerbase if the devs and support team had more of an active presence in the community. And also responded to the support tickets in the way the mods eventually do over here.

  • You rarely get a useful reply in the forums! 99% of the time you receive sarcastic responses from old players who think that they know everything & their game is unique enough not to be updated. Then they use the word "sandbox" and don't even know what "sandbox" means... They have no idea that SOT itself is a sandbox game...Google it.

You got useful replies. You also got people telling you the issues and faults in this idea. Nothing stops the opposing pirates from then picking up your loot, and then what? There's no way you can stop them. Safe Zone for all, not for one, doesn't work. These "older players" got over the same hurdles you talk about, lived to tell the tale, and now understand why things are the way they are. Especially as they come from the days when gold was much, MUCH harder to amass.

The game is a "Sandbox" because it is purely up to the pirates within it how encounters go. End of. You don't get a free handout "safe zone" for reaching an outpost, if you bash up to dock in response to another ship chasing you, then it's your fault that they come up behind and sink/attack while you hastily try to sell. As per the sandbox, you can find ways to adapt, rather than the game giving you a win. Tools not rules, and that applies to all facets.

The way I see it,!THE HOURS! you spent chasing them and failed to get them before they make it to the outpost is more than enough to announce them the winners... and they have the right to celebrate their win in front of you.

Their win is physically handing the loot in. The win is getting your gold/reward for handing in the loot, not for dropping sails and reaching an island before another ship. There is always, ALWAYS a risk, even when at an outpost and selling. If you're being chased, drive by sells are a valid strategy, but you get no Safe zone. You have to work within the rules of the world. And if safe zones existed, there would be no "Hours long" chases, because every outpost is 5 minutes away. It wouldn't work, because there is always a safe out a small sail away. You don't earn the "right to celebrate a win" for sailing in one direction.

but as I said: The game is heaven for griefers! those who think that killing someone who does a tall tale is unique!

This game is a Shared open world, you're going to get the mischief makers, the peaceful pirates, all kinds of people. You have the freedom to respond how you feel, as they have the freedom to act. Toxic behaviour is clippable and reportable, and trust me, majority of the community look down on tall taler attackers. Be nice, and you may find things are a lot nicer back.

    no more forums, bye lol

As i said originally, it may not be for you, and that's okay. But you posted your suggestion, got good replies, and yes, a few not so good replies, but i'm afraid MANY are sick of anti-PVP sentiments because they are constant, and always from newer players. Everyones valid in how they feel and many sympathise with you, but understand that all opinions are also valid even if they disagree with yours.

Just wait until you realize not only the forum people disagrees, but the devs too!
You will be provided a couple of nice links shortly with their official statements on the matter. Fair winds!

  • @theblackbellamy right but another crew can still roll up and start turning in the loot and you couldn’t do a thing about it and if it’s a larger crew than yours you get far less loot so it amounts to the same weather or not another ship can attack you at an outpost

  • @callmexzibit Game is called sea of thieves. Learn to defend from thieves or continue to be plundered. There will never be a safe zone. Get used to it. Pay more attention to the horizon and don't get snuck up on. This is not a gold grinding simulator. It's a shared world pirate adventure with focuses on interactions between crews wether they be hostile or friendly.

  • Sell more often, you will get more efficient at doing things in shorter time, it also teaches you to be more vigilant and careful with your decisions rather than a mad dash to a safe zone. That would honestly ruin the game

  • There is much miss understanding here. I dont agree with you. If you are chased by another ship and you go to a save zone at an outpost how are you going to defend your loot they can just drop it in the water and harpoon it to their ship and run or even sell it there. This didn't fix anything because i dont think there is anything to be fixed here to begin with. You compare Fortnite with Sea of Thieves soo let counter that too. Fortnite is a shooter with different modes and that works for a shooter but you cat make changes pulled out from under in a sandbox game. In a sandbox games they
give you tools you find ways to use them as your advantage. They dont give you the easy way directly. How they did the game not enjoyable for new players? You are sailing in the sea talking with your friends and having fun and the voyage is a bonus thing to do. Even if you like grind then you also have to learn to defend the grind because i think you miss the point of the game. There is this cliche''It's not about the gold'' and do you know why? It's not there to make the game sea of friends but there to say that it does not matter if you get gold because in the end of the day you can buy only cosmetics. You are getting gold from everywhere in this game dont focus on that. I hope you got my point. Cheers mate!

    Oh that's a shame.

99% of the time you receive sarcastic responses from old players who think that they know everything

Ever considered that maybe they DO know everything? Theres always the chance that you are the one who is wrong here.

& their game is unique enough not to be updated. Then they use the word "sandbox" and don't even know what "sandbox" means... They have no idea that SOT itself is a sandbox game...Google it.

You clearly don't know what Sandbox means either. It means that you can do what you like. I want to sink you at the outpost.

  • @callmexzibit

You made your game almost impossible for new players to enjoy because it's a long & continuous grinding process without any safe zone!

Everyone who has played has been a new player at some point, this isn't unique to you or new players now.

As you said yourself "It's a game!", so why are you getting so angry or upset? It has zero effect on your ability to live your real life as you see fit.

There are loads of games I didn't like after trying once and have never played again, I don't go and post on their forums about how the entire premise of their game should change to suit me though.

If you don't like the game and it's not for you, that's OK, you don't have to play it.

  • Hi everyone,

Going to drop anchor on this one as it is a conversation that has already been addressed by the devs in multiple instances.

    Happy voyages.
