Ships despawning on land

  • We went to wanderer's refuge to do a quest, and our athena 5 ship decided to despawn because nobody took it off the island. When will this abysmal "mechanic" be completely removed from the game Rare?

  • Until they change something you could try parking your ship on the water rather than land.

    sails up
    anchor up

  • Why are you parking your ship on land?

  • because nobody took it off the island.

So. Your the issue but its the games fault?

  • Although it seems a little futile to play the 'it's fairly realistic that a boat would get destroyed if you rammed it onto land' card... I think it's common knowledge that parking your boat anywhere that's not water can cause some damage to the vessel.

From a more practical standpoint though, I remember during the technical alpha days when my crew rammed our ship into the middle of golden sands at full billow as we were getting chased. Whilst it was no doubt hilarious that the bottom of our ship remained above the water line (due to the generously placed walkways) meaning we couldn't sink and could pepper them with cannons without consequence, had we used that as a genuine gameplay tactic to give us more time to repair... yeah I don't think that would be very fair.

Whilst I agree that there should be some sort of warning when you're ships about to despawn, I'm thankful that I don't see unsinkable galleon turrets perched on islands :P

  • @burnbacon I'm sorry that my ship vanishes to thin air (very realistic and possible) when I walk away for a minute. Oopsieeeeeeeeee!!!!

  • @reaperxaniel why on earth would you leave your ship in such a bad position, i mean you lost an athena 5 to this... meaning you are a PL and have at least some experience.

this should be enough experience to know that you should always have your ship ready to move in an instant, so no anchor and sails op not even pointing the bow sprit towards an island.

This despawning mechanic serves multiple purposes:

    • Ships that are stuck arent just stuck forever
    • People ramming their ships on some random island to prevent sinking.

I'm sorry that my ship vanishes to thin air (very realistic and possible) when I walk away for a minute. Oopsieeeeeeeeee!!!!

so when you sink for whatever reason a new ship also shouldnt pop into existance for you, just be without a ship for now thanks... or Firing yourself out of the cannons, also very realistic... wait lets talk about the regen magic that food has...

Mermaids, Megalodons, Krakens, Skeletons, Phantoms, Humans transformed into crustaceans... yeah i forgot this is all realistic right there... come-on

If you are not able or willing to take good care of your ship... you dont deserve it or its flag

  • @spunkus-skunkus True, you should at least be kicked out of the cannons.

  • @callmebackdraft It's a game, not that deep?

  • @reaperxaniel you put up the “realistic” statement first.

Also it only despawns after about 5 to 10 minutes.

And during all that time its creeking and moaning heavily, if you and your crew then decides not to act on that… thats not the games fault

  • @callmebackdraft It is inherintly a game design flaw and error that the ship wasn't able to get off, even with the intended mechanics in place to keep that from happening.

Generally if your ship is stuck on land it's because you've done something particular to keep it there, such as wedging it between rocks or beaching it really REALLY badly. It's also possible to soft-lock yourself by either anchoring yourself in said position or keeping your boat on land with harpoons, both of which will stop your boat from naturally sliding back into the water. Sailing is a mechanic that is easy to learn but hard to master and hence wedging (or beaching) yourself is a genuine, albeit pretty minor, threat that you'll learn to avoid.

Regardless of what anyone thinks about how or when a boat should despawn, you'll find that the majority agree that sending your boat straight at an island and anchoring (Especially as a juicy Athena Emissary) is malpractice.

  • @reaperxaniel wait you got your boat "stuck" and ate unhappy how the game fixes it. Sounds like a you problem. I am betting you are more mad at yourself and the crew for the hair-brained mistake than you are at the game.

  • @captain-coel It is inherintly a bad game mechanic that your ship despawns

  • @reaperxaniel It is inherently bad driving to get your boat stuck. Don't park on land and it is not an issue, it seems like you knew about this and still your crew ignored it. This is great example of players making mistakes and not bad game design.

It's more like 5 minutes. 5 minutes while your ship screams and creaks the whole time telling you its beached.

They're not fixing it because it's a preventative measure for ships actually stuck, and unable to sink with scuttle because.. beached.

    Move it, or lose it.

Instead of just saying this, why not put forward a better idea for ships that are beached and stuck ?

Keep in mind that you have to take into regard that people can abuse mechanics and will use systems to prevent their ship from sinking in a situation where they aren’t able to win a fight.

  • 1st of all why did you park on land, 2nd of all, would you rather just get stuck on an island? It is like black screening for the boat

  • @captain-coel Sleeper

  • @callmebackdraft Then disable the cannons when ships haven't taken water for holes for more than 30 seconds

  • @reaperxaniel Boats/Ships are, by their very nature, designed to be in water.... if you happen to be perceived as stuck, the game will despawn your boat.

As irritating as it might be, it is not as irritating as being stuck and not being able to do anything about it.

The easiest solution would be....keep your ship in the water?

Dropping anchor as the OP has been answered and thread is going nowhere.

    Thanks
