instead of waiting for the wheel to turn full right or left, you could press shift then A or D and your character would through the wheel to full right or left instead of holding A or D and waiting. Would be epic.

@gossamere as long as the wheel still turned at the same pace im in. Freeing up my hands to go adjust the sails is one thing, turning faster on a galley would be entirely different.
