Rare should add shell like hearing aids or glasses and jewelry

  • This might be a neat way to make the game more accepting to those who are hard of hearing or worse eyesight. :)

Edit: i understand these are widely acknowledged but they wud be cool cosmetics :) — jewelry wasnt part of original post judt part of edit also not rlly to spread awareness of jewelry… thatd be dumb… and cosmetics are t rlly needed to spread awareness just wud be cool

  • This is a great idea and would LOVE to see it!

Currently wear the merchant monachal constantly because it's the closest thing to glasses that characters get to have. Glasses exist for other NPCs, so the shape of the object exists and could theoretically be added as a cosmetic for players.

Considering the general era aesthetic that the fantasy game is set in, hearing aids could be more difficult. Smaller hearing aids didn't exist back then. There were hearing horns in the 18th century, but that's not something that could practically work for the intent of the post, I don't think, as it wouldn't really stay fixed on a character and ascetically fit with the game while still allowing a character extensive movement while using it. What could be a hearing aid equivalent that could work?
An idea that comes to mind is a potential enchanted conch shell. Much like the ones you put up to your ear to 'hear the ocean', but the smaller miniature ones that could fit on/in a character's ear.

  • Rare go to great lengths and strides for accessibility and representation in their game when it comes to gameplay, possibly more so than most companies, however, i don't believe cosmetics are really necessary to show "acceptance".
AFAIK, back in the pirate heyday, Hearing aids wouldn't have been a thing aside from perhaps a large trumpet held up to the ear, back then people were just hard of hearing/deaf, and that was that! It would be interesting to see some form of glasses cosmetics come to the game though, there are a few sets that could match them, but ultimately there isn't much rhyme or reason for them.
I'm all for representation and acceptance, but i'm not sure it's necessary for the game, the accessibility options for gameplay are much more effective and important IMO.

  • Glasses yes. Hearing trumpet? Nothing against if rare can make it fit.

    Electronic Hearing aids? nah

  • Not sure how adding that helps people with disabilities in any way.

    "SpReAd AwArEnEsS!" Come on!

Im sorry but its just pathetic, everyone acknowlendge these problems and adding cosmetics about that wont do anything.
Glasses as cosmetics sounds awesome but there's no need for a dumb agenda behind it, its not a silent issue.

And lets say it is an issue, how is that going to help at all?
If your answer is to show awareness then im afraid nothing constructive will come out.

  • Generally fine with the ideas of adding more glasses and maybe hearing trumpets. Just don't slap it under "awarness" please. 1/4 of the world's population wears glasses, so talking about it like it's some unknown ancient disease is silly.

Anyways, i personally would like see more styles of monocles! Like ones with short chains hanging off them, or a cracked variant. It would work well for this old general roleplay idea where i go up to crews and tell them how i invented the cannonball.

Could also have a emote where your pirate puts up their speaking trumpet against their ear. The name of the Emote would be "Eh?"

  • @wyvernkraehe Oo that is a great idea. i did think about the time difference but couldn’t think of a solution.

  • @el-spaniardchi sry didnt mean glasses or worse eyesight as a disability sry for the missunderstanding!

  • How do you add hearing aids and glasses to a virtual game?

Edit: Ohh, you meant as cosmetics but you added in to help people with bad eyesight and hearing…
You know, I’ve got the Merchant Alliance costume if I want glasses/ spectacles and I’ve got the real world for glasses too!

  • @faceyourdemon not necessarily to spread awareness as i understand that hearing loss is widely acknowledged. Glasses would be a cool cosmetic and a shell idea like @wyvernkraehn said would be cool as well

  • @okcookie7177 But the whole premise of your post is about adding awareness/acceptness....

In any case if its purely just for the sake of cosmetics i would love to, shells can be earings and would be added in an accessories update.
Rings earings, bracelets necklesses the whole package.
