  • I’ll start!

    What went well?
    Merchandise, advertisements, community goals.

    What didn't go well?
The servers for a majority of the day leaving many players who took off and planned a day out of it, out of it

    What should they continue doing?
Sweet merchandise, good videos and flashbacks

    What should they do differently?
Run it for a weekend, server ques, compensate those who now had to miss the entire event with a separate day at least a week away.

  • Sunday GMT is bad timing for players in AU/NZ/parts of Asia. Event launches late Sunday night and rolls over to a weekday. Most of us are at work/school therefore miss out. Saturday would give most of the world some weekend play time.

  • What went well?

    • Everything worked

    What didn't go well?

    • community throwing a fit over server crashing or unable to login. Blaming the dev and such.

    What should they continue doing?

    • Being themselves and showing the community they are listening and will keep moving forward.

    What should they do differently?

    • nothing much. They tried something “New” and it worked for most part but it wasn’t A huge fail. Maybe next time, don’t make it into a day? Or spread it out across weekday/end

What the community as a whole should do?

    • give the dev a break and relax. Nothing ever goes right with a huge update anyways, this was expected and everyone is striking out how disappointed they are with Rare it sad.
We all missed out. Some didn’t but good chunk did but complaining like it’s the end of the world is not the way to go.
  • Running it from 12am UTC Saturday through 11:59pm UTC Sunday would seem to be the most logical change.

Having it over two days would spread the load a bit and those hours would allow the majority to make the most of it.

I’d say have the in-game cosmetic rewards available all weekend but keep the biggest rep/gold multipliers to Sunday. That way, those who care mostly about the cosmetics will try to get on early (Saturday) and those in it for the gold will prioritise Sunday.

Maybe do more Twitch Drops and have them be a bit more unique (the tankard was already a drop). Have multiple drops available all weekend, not just the one day, and allow viewers to get them in one day if they want. It’s great to get nice unlocks to celebrate but, please, minimise FOMO - that only seems to lead to bitterness.

Rare should get in touch with their Partners to organise a proper event. A lot of them have experience organising these things. Do a charity drive, they tend to pull everyone together and if it can be tied into the game somehow, all the better.

And, please, don’t make big negative announcements a few days beforehand (closing Arena).

  • What went well?
    Hyping up the event
Giving a good incentive to join

    What didn't go well?
Like 12 hours of not playing
Servers being out of whack before, during and after the strawberries apocalypse
Getting a 12-hour extension as the ONLY compensation
Asking for waaay too many permissions just to link a Twitter account

    What should they continue doing?
    Giving crazy multipliers
    What should they do differently?

Actually being prepared to take in players
Giving us an actual compensation for our wait, rather than an extension that most people won't be able to follow

The event was a true flop where it bit waaaay more than it could chew giving a disappointing situation at best and stupidly infuriating at worst, I get why after paying 30$ you would get mad (although the harassment that team got is UNJUSTIFIABLE) , the ""compensation"" we got was just underwhelming and lame. I won't be excited nor wait with joy the next community day since I know that it's more than possible to be a flop given the state of the servers apparently being run on ducktape.

What?!?! Did you literally just say everything worked but then immediately admitted to servers being down? LOL.

    [Mod edit]

  • @realstyli oh yea let’s make twitch and discord a priority so the “content creators” don’t miss out. Yes that should definitely be the priority. Gaming is dead.

Oh I am very well aware of the anti-streamer sentiment among a very vocal minority on here. But, whether you want to admit it or not, the Sea of Thieves community on Twitch is significant and streaming is part of gaming culture now. Even an old man like me can see that reality.

  • It was a disaster all around, there is no point sugar coating it. Respect to the devs for working the weekend to try and fix it, but how does this happen again and again? This isn’t their first rodeo. The feedback from social media is mostly expected and I have not seen any harassment, just frustration.

Rare have a podcast coming up soon where they plan to discuss server problems. This will be very interesting to listen to off of the back of this.

Rare got a ton of publicity from using the community to trend hashtags and the such, and it all blew up in their face unfortunately. Even people who aren’t playing Sea of Thieves saw this mess. I really hope this puts a priority on their consistent server issues.

  • @satanicnemesis

This time around at least, it appears to be an Xbox issue, according to the Xbox Live Status page, and not specific to Sea of Thieves. The Xbox Live issues started around 2pm GMT yesterday, which lines up with when folks starting having problems logging in.

It's not the same issue as when data was lost on previous incidents, as it was affecting initial logging in this time around. Rewards, admittedly, were delayed but as far as I could see they were still being tracked.

  • the issues just aren't a big deal to me

I couldn't get on most the day and they extended the time, it is what it is I don't feel negative about it

I play because I enjoy it and if something doesn't work I just work around it.

The whole point of community is to gather round and help each other out when things get tough. To get through things together. Gold comes and goes, sometimes there are issues.

They worked on it and go things going again. We move forward and things will be alright.

  • Because of demographical time constraints, our UK/NA crew have a small window of time to plan a sail together and unfortunately none of us could join yesterday. It is what it is, I know, just maybe a community weekend would help spread the love out a bit and reduce the load..

I am of the understanding the XBL issue is party chat related which may or may not be linked to SoT. Rare have not given any indication the SoT matchmaking issue was the result of an XBOX Live issue on Microsoft’s end. The SoT Support Twitter specifically stated it was because of the playerbase trying to all log in at the same time which caused issues.

  • @satanicnemesis

It's a back end process from Xbox Live that caused the issues and it was out of Rare's hands. At the time of my last reply, Sea of Thieves was not singled out for matchmaking issues, only Party Chat issues mentioned the game. In hindsight, I probably should have screenshotted that rather than linking to a live status page. In any case, I've heard through good sources that this was a third party tool issue, not a Sea of Thieves specific problem.

  • its more rare pushing their socialmedia sites day :)

1-Everything worked? Where? On a mirror dimension? I started trying to play since 15:00 London hour and I couldnt join until 22:30, so how can you say everything worked xD.

2- Here is the right place to type EVERYTHING.
Of course we blame devs, They are the guilty ones of not hearing us when we Talk about how bad servers are, when we give them feedback and they close threads because Hitreg/Lag/Backtrack/Logging issues only happens in our twisted minds, for them is ok.

3- They should continue ignoring Community feedback if they want another shtstorm like yesterdeay on Twitter and forums. They should continue thinking that this garbage servers are fine for keep developing new content, They should continue thinking that new players retention is low because their fault, because their Game doesnt deserve less than a 5 on metacritic.

4- Listen community, Change this servers, Less emporium more QOL maintenance to servers. I am not going to spend a single euro of my salary on this Game if they are using that money for develop more skins instead of solving all servers problems. They also shouldnt Hype people if they know that they can't afford the amount of players.

5- Yeah, giving a break, because developing skins for the emporium is a huge stress. If they were fixing the real problems, I would be agree with you, but they are doing nothing to fix that problems, just creating more.

Imagine, you work as waiter and you never clean the coffee machine, customers tells you that the machine needs some maintenance and improvements but you never clean It, never hear their advices, never do nothing to keep that machine working fine. One day, you have a ton of clients and your machine, at second coffee, stops working and your customers angry starts blaming you, asking for an apologize, giving negative feedback if your restaurant.
Is customers fault for demanding what they paid for? Or is your fault for not following the right maintenance to your coffee machine? It is yours, because a lot of customers before that day told you that you should Stop wasting money on beautiful spoons and start investing on the machine.

Rare is the waiter ignoring us and we are the angry customers. Do not try to defend them when all of this is cause they never hear community.

  • @stillvill

    What went well? - Nothing
What didn't go well? - Everything - Could not get on once
What should they continue doing? - Nothing that they are doing today , get a grip and have a platform that works when events are on.
What should they do differently? - Everything see above.

  • I can't say what went well, just that I couldn't log in when I had the free time to play. Other than logging in 10 minutes before bed to get the flag/emote and cash in some doubloons for gold I didn't participate.

  • @sshteeve

but we're going to let @burnbacon bait people?! Oh ok. How about a little consistency?

Also, pretty ironic that my post got the most up votes because that kid is baiting and trolling. Hypocritical to point fingers at me. Do your job as a mod, or don't.

  • @ipr0jectpat but they didn't call anyone out, or have to have a mod edit their response matey.

Anyways, this is off-topic, so I will leave it there. I sent the rules over for a reason: you've had a couple of edits now and any discussion is better than none, so I would rather folk stick around to offer varying opinions.

  • @sshteeve

Fair enough. I just don't understand how telling people to shut up and quit complaining is constructive AT ALL. But hey, you're the mod!

Also...to tell me " but they didn't have to have any posts edited " ...well friend, that would be completely at the mods discretion would it not? Again, even enforcement of the rules is subjective and a matter of opinion, which you've shown here. Cheers!

When did they add gaslighting to the game? 🥁🤣

  • Well I was looking forwards to sailing with my crew but none of us could get on so yeah it was a rather disappointing community day for us, we are in different time zones and all have rather busy work schedules so planning is already not the most easy.

I just hopped onto my Towers Unite game and played some golf I mean it is what it is, what can ya do? I saw some people say they tried like six hours to get on??? I do not have the patience or time for that plus at that point half my crew would have been in bed due to it being much later so I just went on with my day.
