Mainland in Sea of thieves with rivers and a PVE city

  • I've played a lot of Sea of Thievs and think it's a good idea to get a bit of variety from the sea and islands by having a mainland with rivers leading into a city, or several cities where you can interact peacefully with other players. On the mainland you could then also distribute outposts or quest areas along the rivers. I have drawn a little in Paint as I imagined it approximately. Of course with the rivers and more variety on the mainland map

  • I would love that!

  • No pve area

  • @fredolineinbein If it's a Tall Tale location in the Sea of the Damned, sure! If it's a location on the regular map, no!

  • Would not be opposed to the idea of a more central hub where ships are more likely to congregate. Maybe only special tasks could appear their, or loot you turn in their is worth slightly more.

However no PVE safe space, if their is an important focused place I want it to be a battlefield with everyone trying to beat everyone else. Advantage to this though is that once a ship is sunk in the area they would be spawned far away giving you time to sell "in peace"

  • @nitroxien on the rivers of course pvp should still be on, even though rivers can be dangerous traps, but i think there should be a place, like the city in the example, where you can talk peacefully with other players and form alliances. If you go out of combat into the pve zone you should not have this protection anymore of course.

  • inb4 pve lock

  • I get that people would love something like this, but I think one of the big factors that stops stuff like this is server population. There is a limitation on the amount of crews that a server can hold, that number is six. For every ship that hides away in a safe-zone means one less ship to interact with. The number of ships now goes down to four crews to interact with. The map is already too big to have so few ships to interact with. Suggestions like this are a quick way to make the seas feel fully dead. If this game had dozens of crews where a few ships wouldn't be missed, this discussion would be different. However, that isn't reality in this situation.

I think you would have better luck in a discord. Hell, if you are dead set on in-game, the Ferry is better. Your area relies on people who want to take time out of their game-play to sail to a destination for only a small chance to run into a crew that wants to discuss something.

The harsh reality here is the servers are too small to make any reasonable in-game meet-up space.

  • where you can interact peacefully with other players.

No PVE safe zones. Only Place that is accepted is the Sea of the Damned/Ferry

  • @fredolineinbein
You know, with all the "No's, No PVE safe zones", etc... They aren't telling you why it won't work. (Beside the point they do not want it)
There are no safe zones because any pirate can sail in there and cause havoc with those who want to ruin your friend time.
But the question really is: What would you do in this area? what's to stop other crews from interrupting your interaction with peaceful players?

  • @gipperseadog

Erm.. it was explained by @nabberwar a couple of posts back. With only six crews any city would feel a little lifeless with most crews out on the sea.

What @fredolineinbein describes is a fantastic game mind, imagine the SoT mechanics in a massive open world MMO trading/pirating game with seas, rivers and cities and a navy or bounty hunters etc. I'm sure something like that will come one day but that game is not sea of thieves matey. I'll sure be joining in when it does come though.

  • @wagstr its actually only 5 crews now…they decreased it to improve server quality…but i love this idea!

  • I personally think this is a great idea. The crew i sail with mostly go for the commendations and the pve part for the game, but not to say we don't want any part PvP that can be fun, but sometimes a little to much.

  • @fredolineinbein sagte in Mainland in Sea of thieves with rivers and a PVE city:

Make it reachable through the portals we already have...then the whole thing can be PvE, but not one part PvE and one part not...

  • Did you guys know that mainlands actually exist outside the Sea of Thieves? They are just beyond the Devil's Shroud, however, they are just regular, non-magic.

Wounds heal slower. Can't shoot yourself from cannons. No merfolk to kindly escort you to you ship if you fall off. No giant talking head in the sky, whose ghostly fleet provides sweet amounts of treasures.

That what you want? 'Medieval real-life simulator'?

I think Sea of Thieves should have a central hub like Destiny. A big port town on it's own server so we could have as many players there as possible. You should be able to choose if you wanted to start in the 'Hub' town, or quick start the sea adventure like we do now.
First and foremost the Hub should be a safe zone. A place to meet and chat to other like minded pirates and plan. Then go as a crew into the game proper. The Hub Town should also be full of hustle and bustle. Meaning NPC's going about business bringing life to the Hub.
I'm just going to list some things that could be there.
    -Bars for PVE players
    -Bars for PvP players
    -Private bar for Legendary Pirates
-Merchant factions should have grand headquarters were you can receive special missions.
    PVP Mini games like:
-Ship battles. Betting their own gold on who will win, teams or solo players would fight in the seas around the Hub for spoils, rank and notoriety while other players watch from the shore.
-Mini boat pirate battles on a lake.
    -Firing range. With drunk option.
    -Dueling. With drunk option.
    -Cannon firing range.
-Cannon crew mate firing. The fired mate could have an after touch to correct shots to hit the giant target.
-Arena battles, fist fights, sword fights.
    -Pub games (Cards).
    -Drinking games.

All these can be PVP with gambling options for the those involved or those spectating. And all games are available to spectate by all players in the hub if they choose. Just bring some life and community to the game.

    That's the basics.

Sea of Thieves has a community, so give the community a place to meet pirate to pirate. Whether they PvP or Pve

  • the vast majority of the time when you pull into an outpost it will be empty and might well be for the hour after you leave it. why you think this would be a good idea under those circumstances is beyond me. sounds like you want to play a certain new MMO, i suggest you just go play that instead

  • @qu1etone I like this idea a hub outside of the game to meet with people, find crews, play minigames, and chill!

This sounds awesome to me! (mainly the minigames would hope for like duels, betting, racing, stuff like that)

  • @nitroxien it would be nice but I don't think it will ever come. I see these posts and I always add my 07/04/2018 post. We can always hope. 👍

  • @burnbacon This could work, but only if it was in a separate world to keep the game flow going.

If it was in the same world, people wouldn't be doing voyages & just be in the taverns, playing games, afk, & etc.

It could be done through a portal, and you wouldn't be able to earn gold or reputation there, so people would come back in the PvP world.
And of course you wouldn't be able to do any significant there, besides chatting & perhaps card games, etc, so people wouldn't stay there forever.
