Two XBox units behind same gaming router ISSUE

  • My Son and I play SoT on our XBox units and often sail together with no issues. We do have an issue that occurs a couple of times per week and this is what happens:

    1. He joins on me and then I get kicked
    2. I reconnect to my session, but can only do so when he exits out of the session.
    3. The same thing occurs when I join on him

I suspect it has something to do with how NAT is handled on our router and possibly how long sessions are held open from the XBox units to the SoT matchmaking service.

  • I think you answered your own question there.

It is most likely the NAT traffic handling.

Consult your router manual to see if there is a way to make it less restrictive. I suppose you could try opening ports for Xbox and SoT services. You'd have to ask support for what they are though.

  • @markhudy There is an option, in the internet settings of the Xbox, which allows you to manually select another port. You should try.

It's very simple, you just have to select it from a list. You will surely have to restart the console and maybe your router too

You only need to do this on one console. They may be on the same port

  • @dewehr My unit is on 3074 and my Son's is using a high port 50xxx. Good thought, but already considered it before posting. Our work around is for him to connect to xFinity WiFi which lives on the outside of the firewall.

  • @markhudy Sorry for you.

It's weird because I can play with my girlfriend, both on the same connection, same router.

    Good luck to you

  • @markhudy If you both have a strict NAT type then this can sometimes happen on Xbox live. The way to fix it would be to forward your ports and assign a static ip address for both consoles.
