Character Creation Quality of Life Update

  • Sorry if this topic has been done to death, I'm sure it's come up at some point in the past, but I figured I'd give it a go anyway.

SO. This will be my third or fourth time changing my character because of some small detail I overlooked that I've later hyperfixated on, or simply because I've grown as a person and no longer relate to my pirate(oops, I'm a buff pirate gal now).

I know Rare doesn't wanna do sliders, and it obviously doesn't behoove them monetarily if you can make your perfect character the first go round(nor is it as fun if everyone picks the same/similar settings), but there's glaring issues that I think could be fixed without taking away from the ideas behind the current character creation method and without drastically overhauling the system itself.

    1. Locking certain traits.
      Skin tone.
      Gender presentation.
I feel like these should be no-brainers. People want to see themselves in their buff pirate gals, especially if it costs money to change it later. Make this part easy bare minimum.

2.Option to remove clothing/set hair to default cropped/remove scars and other blemishes.
These often actively get in the way of seeing what you're getting when you select a character, and even more often you don't get to keep some of the traits that you see when you first select them, such as certain scars. Include a toggle to set their hair, remove all clothing items and body alterations so we can see what we're picking. Let me find the buff pirate gal of my dreams without having to guess how much muscle is under that dress, thanks.

    3.Smart rerolls(optional)
This one would involve a bit more work, so I wouldn't blame Rare for not wanting to do it, but it would be nice if the game recognized patterns in the character we might "favorite" into the character generation each time they're rerolled. If I'm locking a lot of buff pirate gals perhaps you could make it so the game notices that and goes "well I guess I'll make more buff pirate gals this go 'round." Even if it only dedicates a couple slots to this it might make finding a pirate that speaks to you a little easier.

  • @evelynthefox those sound like more than just small updates alltogether...
I wouldn't mind to choose the gender, but everything else should stay rng, imo

  • @schwammlgott Honestly I feel having them in clothing at all was a misplay, it really does take away from what you can see when it comes to the character's actual body traits. If not a toggle, have them be in default state from the beginning.

  • I feel like they prevent themselves a headache by making it all randomly generated based on their pre-approved parameters of appearance.

I think there could be a little more androgyny thrown in the generator mix and I also feel they should make some of the female options a bit more feminine. The ladies I've talked to about their characters would prefer faces a little less sea-rugged
