Shanty Thoughts

  • So I had this idea bouncing around in my head for some time. We all know that the game as a soundtrack and that some of the songs we hear in game actually have lyrics in the songs outside of it. What if they added singing to the game. Get a few different voice actors/singers male and female to sing the different songs that have lyrics so that way when we play our instruments our pirates sing along with the voice we picked. If you have no voice equipped then you play as normal with no singing or it can be a button prompt to toggle on an off. Like how when you can select the shanty. I feel this would add more to the shanties than only hearing instruments again and again even with the added variety.

  • I like the idea but singing in game chat is already possible and maybe even more immersive than having a programmed voice do the singing.

  • @yungkrusty Indeed people could sing while using in game chat. But in my time of playing this game. I've seen little to no people actually sinning songs without making up lyrics as they want. Even then the idea works because as I said if you don't like the voices there can be a thing to toggle them off in the shanty menu. If someone likes it they can have it on and if someone else does not they can have it off. One person can hear the lyrics and the other can't to fit each person's preferences.

  • My main worry is while someone's using a mic and trying to talk to everyone (Xbox player for example), teammate open world trolls will just continuously sing over them for the sake of being disruptive/annoying... I honestly love the idea though, if there was a way to counter this then definitely! :D

  • @scottydoggie901 Trolls will always be trolls and there's nothing you can really do to change that. But at least you can turn off voice chat in the settings so you don't hear anyone who's disruptive or really loud on purpose. This is one of those games you usually play with a group of friends at least in my experience and if you're with your friends and music is playing you tend to either all listen or you all talk to each other music playing anyway. It's a simple as asking your group if you're playing with friends to be quiet so you can hear the song at least once before you go back to talking.

  • Yo this would be dope playa!

  • @rarelygoodz That's not a valid excuse excuse for certain players having a negative impact on other people's gaming experience and it certainly doesn't mean we should just ignore it and add all the requests in the forums because 'trolls will be trolls'
I find there's no point in implementing something into the open world unless you've established the pro's and cons of the idea and how we as a community can counteract it c:

  • @scottydoggie901 Apparently you focused only one one thing to start an argument that's pointless. There is nothing anyone can do to stop people from mic spamming and yelling besides what is already implemented and I already commented about that. That thing being turning off voice chat for other crews or even your own crews if playing with randoms. There's not much else you can do on the side of voice chat.

  • @rarelygoodz "to start an argument"? If you noticed in my first post in this forum I said "I honestly love the idea though" All I did was state a downside to the idea & said if there was a way to counter it I'd be for it? So not really sure where you got that assumption from. I'm for people's ideas and I like to keep an open mind and state my opinion on the matter, but I never willingly go on the forums to "start an argument", I'm still relatively new to the game so if there already is a solution either in your mind or already in game to my worry, answer it and inform me.

If you're going to suggest an idea in the forums, prepare for people like me who will ask questions or the rare case of point out faults in it, it doesn't mean I'm attempting to provoke you in any way, shape or form. It just means we need to brainstorm it further and get you thinking more about the idea rather than a "I thought of this idea 5 seconds ago, I'm gonna post in the forum and anyone who disagrees with me or has worries are wrong"

  • I like the idea, but I don't think it's a good one. You see, our pirates are our pirates; I feel like if we hear someone else's voice singing or voicing our pirate, it's no longer ours. It's somebody else. We lose immersion that way, IMO. I'm all for game-chat singing instead. In that instance, you have a REAL pirate that can sing beautifully, or even off-key. It's not pre-recorded; it's dynamic and ever-changing. Imperfect - like a pirate.
