I have waited far too long to see the day that a Man O War comes across my horizon. To fear the greatness of a ship that size rolling up on you... I must be able to stand at the helm of such a magnificent ship and gain the power to control the waves!! When shall we get a Man O War, I ask?
Sea of Thieves - Man O War sized ship

@dragonboy-22522 Wow what a fantastic Idea! I would love to run over sloops with a Man O War
We ran over someone in a rowboat with our brig once, that was fun, the sound of the crunch was rather delightful.

I'm hoping never. We dont need another ship, let alone a larger one.
I've chewed this over a lot, and to be honest, the only way that I can see to even remotely balance this would be to make it into an event of sorts.
The ship spawns in the world somewhere and requires a minimum of 5 pirates to vote to activate it (meaning two crews in game need to elect to work together) with a maximum crew of 8.
Once activated, it would become visible on the map to all other ships on the seas and the ships of the crews manning the Man-O-War have their ships scuttled for the time they are using this massive ship. Should the ship get sunk, the crews that were on it will have their ships returned to the world where they will then respawn.
After a cool down, a new Man-O-War spawns somewhere on the server and the process can begin again.
I'd even go so far as to say that there could be a reward for any Crew or Alliance that takes out the Man-O-War, and probably wouldn't make any kind of event cloud for it - people have to find it organically and then work to get the pirates needed to crew it. This would make the times you see it much more rare.
There is also the matter of balancing the ship so that the crew really does need to be coordinated to make using it effective. You might accomplish this by giving it two levels of area that are below the water making it easier to take on water quickly without repairs and making it difficult to get into shallower waters that other ships can navigate. It should be wildly cumbersome to maneuver, but potentially quite fast if it catches the wind with all four of the sails it would have (it must have more things it needs operated to help manage balance).
This also makes it into a PvP focused situation, so the crews trying to take on the vessel will have to be aware of this despite them being a powerful threat should they manage to catch a lone ship and have a coordinated crew at the helm.
Could be an interesting way to get a player driven world event in there to compliment the Fort of the Damned. For the lore facet of it taking the Man-O-War could be seen as an act of aggression by the pirates of her crew to try and take over the Sea of Thieves in the vein of Flameheart before them.
@redeyesith Totally agree. It should be a world event, like FOTD. Pirate Legends should be able to spend serious $$$ to activate it, then crew with up to 8 of their friends (as a bonus for reaching PL).
You should get points for each new ship you sink as the Man-o_War, to incentivize PVP. Likewise, other players should receive massive loot for taking down a Man-o-War, so that the server comes after it.
It would be rad if an 8 player Man-o-War had two lowerable catamarans with harpoons so they could chase down other vessels and slow them until the Man-o-War caught up. It would play kind of like the Corsair in Starcraft: one giant ship, several smaller ships darting back and forth from it.
This would inspire an entirely new kind of play!
The idea suggested above by @RedEyeSith is the only real way to balance this.
Any other route would make the Man Of War too overpowered. For example, if you had an 8 man crew Man of War (somewhat coordinated) against a 2 man sloop, that would mean, you could have 1 steering, 1/2 adjusting sails, 1/2 repairing/bailing, the rest on cannons. That sloop wouldn't stand a chance! At least now any half decent sloop crew has a chance against a Gally.
I imagine a larger ship will be recieved in one of two ways:
1 - It will be so over-powered that we'd see non-stop complaints about it being so.
2 - It will be so precisely balanced in terms of speed and manoeuvrability against the other ships (fastest with the wind, slowest against, and the widest turning circle) that for the majority of the time it would be mind numbingly boring to play on.
Call me a spoil sport but I really don't see it coming any time soon.
@luciansanchez82 There is a solution for that and thats servers only for Man O War ships , the technical side with the amount of players is the problem but i feel like we are getting tired of that excuse.
Rare needs to push more funds or something, at this point we dont care from a consumer side these things needs answers and solutions.
