Alliance Flag Visiblility on Map

  • So, the idea is simple really, we have a reaper's mark flag for people who wanna say "oi, we wanna fight" and while yes the Alliance flag does tell people (usually) you are looking to ally up, you can't find it on the map to know someone out there wants to pair up. Anyone whose been in the discord has probably at some point or another seen someone complain ships only ever attack when they come across them, they never find crews who wanna team up or some variation of it.

By making it so anyone with 'offer alliance' flag active can see anyone on the map who has the same offer up, crews could find others who wanna sail together or they may run into someone baiting them or they will use it to hunt those people but hey, thats the risk cant be risk free in a game with PvP and even then, only allies can betray you and those offering to ally may be intending to betray in the first place or just trick you, but the point is it would make it easier for crews to advertise they want to be allies no matter where they are on the map and for others wearing the flag to find them for whatever purpose they have. Also i doubt you can be part of an alliance mechanic wise with every ship on the server but if you can then it should probably be max 3 crews in an alliance, this would also mean if an alliance already exists people can choose to join the one existing, form a rival alliance or actively challenge the allied ships knowing they likely will have loot to be plundered that they gathered working together, maybe even make allied ships drop an actual Alliance Flag the reapers would buy (probably a stupid idea because guild flag exists).

Anyway, am i overlooking anything blatantly bad about the idea or is it simple and could easily be worth the devs adding as a feature as it offers something for those who like PvP and want to hunt alliances while making it possible for those who genuinely want to be allied with another crew to have an easier time finding them to form their alliance.

People could just raise the alliance flag shortly, figure out where you are, lower the flag (you probably won't even see them on the map) and sail towards you.

If you want other crews to know where you are, you can raise the Reaper's Mark Flag.

  • @lem0n-curry

The purpose is to know where you are and that you want to form an alliance. Reaper's Mark is to say 'fight me' to the whole map while the ally flag could be used to say 'Ally Me' to the whole map, does that make more sense?

While many people interpret the Reaper's Mark Flag as such, it's purpose is to show your location on the map.

  • @thedrakyle I don't think this is a good idea for the reaon @Lem0n-Curry outlined - it allows other crews to spot any ship with the offer flag up on the map at any time. This in turn means that ships who know how this feature would work will no longer use the offer flag unless they are actively inviting a ship they have already talked to which kind of negates the entire point of your suggestion.

  • Any time your ship is marked on the map always leads to disaster or fights. It never leads to what you want it or meant too be.
