Rare: A shared world experience has always been our goal. Also Rare: A Pirates Life.

  • It is what it is.

Lets not beat around the bush. PvE was the hottest topic for 3 years. And now the players calls have been answered.

The Biggest Year yet for the game won't ruined by those who people have been complaining about forever. Finally, we will get some great content.

+1 win for the good guys. PvE wins the day and a Pirates life for meee

  • what goes on with alliance servers is far more harmful to the pve/pvp environment than offering story content to people without less intensity from time to time and is far more contradictory in messaging

50% per ship is an incentive that leads to the complete opposite of messaging and the intent of the game foundation. As well as all the commendation cheesing

What's coming doesn't weaken the significance of gold or commendations and it doesn't just magically turn any of us into an entirely different style of pirate to where people start hanging out in a tall tale world all day long. It's not gonna change much of anything other than a population increase and make a lot of people happier for a while

  • @wolfmanbush

And a lot of those happier pirates will enjoy the game outside of the PvEvP shared world experience. I know I will.

And you admitted a 'population increase' which just acknowledges what some of us long time players have been saying for awhile. There is a huge market for PvE only content.

    Look at the hype.

    Gold/Commendations. pfff who cares...

There is a huge market for PoTC

The first couple months will show how popular Jack Sparrow is

the rest of the time will show how smart a pve/pvp shared experience is for longevity because no matter how much people love Jack Sparrow they aren't gonna sit in there long. Just like they don't do current tall tales over and over and over even though a few of them essentially have safe zones.

Cool story with pretty graphics and popular characters brings people in

Interaction, competition, thrill these are things that keep a game around and people playing it long term

PoTC market. Yes that is part of the hype.
Enjoying new content without other unknown players is by design (which is what I'm discussing).

So keep trying to divert the conversation..

This. No amount of monologuing by OP is gonna change the fact that PoTC is the reason for upcoming success. The PvE is incidental and nobody is going to care after playing it once.

  • I fail to see the reason players think they must split the PvEvP design of the game.

I myself had no intention of playing a Jack Sparrow/Disney game. I like the lore in SoT.

But I love the PotC ride, I have great memories of my family at Disneyland in the early seventies.
So, as a solo slooper, I'm looking forward to having Captain Jack on my ship. Because it is a cinematic experience, it will be on rails.
    I'm taking lots of screenshots.

I'd be surprised if Rare will provide any pvp opportunities for other pirates during this Tall Tale, but griefers are sure to try.
I relish the opportunity, but aren't expecting it.

I'm looking forward to fighting for the Ferryman, then I'm going back to sailing the seas and grinding.
Always keeping a weather eye on the horizon.

PvE has always been the engine that drives the encounters that the game thrives on.

  • Many of those against the split have always stated that a PvE mode that has it's own rewards, faction and activities is a viable manner to implement it.

They already with the Heart of Fire already sheltered part of the Tall tale in essence. The shores of gold has its own island which requires you to be on the tale to even approach. This is nothing new, just on a bit of a grander scale version of it.

You can act like this is a victory for those that wanted a PVE version of the game, but they are far from getting what they requested. Just read the mega thread on the topic. It is actually showcasing the "PvPers" were more realistic and reasonable.

I am happy that you are looking forward to the new content, yet most of the hype I would say is due to the infamy of the Captain Jack Sparrow and the crossover.

  • Jokes on you, I'm gonna do the tall tales just to learn where I can camp people like you while they do them. You'll have to come back to the open seas some time :D

  • @juan-jalapeno
How are you going to manage that when it's pve only in the area...

  • @captainstab1n I think it comes down to the assumption of... "You'll have to come back to the open seas some time :D"

Ah but we'll have Jack see?! *savvy?*🏴‍☠️

You'll be too busy watching for these folk anyway! 🧜‍♀️ 🧜 🧜‍♂️

  • @sshteeve I remember us having this argument back in the day on outposts... and users claiming they would just camp outposts all day waiting for the gold to come in.

  • Sure, enjoy your few PVE tall tales!
If you are willing to limit yourself to those 5 stories forever without going back to the main game, knock yourself out, you have your PVE game! Who knew you guys were that easy to please after all :P. Case officially closed for good!

  • @musicmee Oh my days we did!
And the answer was always the same - why waste hours waiting on the chance of someone coming by, when you could just be off enjoying the game?!

    It's a Pirate simulator, not camping! 😁

    #bemorecamper
    #wheresthemarshmallow?!

  • You do know that Rare fully stands by their decisions made during the podcast, and adding this tall tale is still limited to those 5 tall tales?
Have fun replaying the 5 tall tales for the rest of your playing time cause you won't be getting any more private areas beyond tall tales.
"I've lost but I've convinced myself I won"

  • @thirk2780 @joe-krakatoa @cotu42 @gallerine5582

Lest we forget. The main crux of a solid No to a PVE anything thread was because the game design is PvEvP. And the new podcast clearly says they have no intention of making a PvE server.

But they went ahead and made the biggest year addition content PvE only.

And say what you want. Speculate all you want. That is the facts. They could have easily kept to the PvEvP formula using the PoTC franchise but decided to keep the unknown threat of other players out of the experience.

You can harp all you want about (its only 5 tall tales) etc etc. The fact of the matter is its going to bring in revenue. Those of us that are for PvE servers can see the writing on the wall that there are many people that dont want to play the game as is and would prefer what Rare has already made. Thats the bottom line.

What do you think they are going to do when they see more dollar signs go up for this?? hmmmmm

    So, case closed.

Rare, ultimately, listened and gave the biggest year to the PvE crowd.

  • @lord-spark-0

they have been working on S3 for over a half a year by now where as the podcast is what... one month old? They have known from the beginnging that these tall tales would be on private servera but went a head and said that PvE servers won't be a thing and even toke down the megathread of it because we finally had an answer. So what rare and other community members mean with PvE servera are pure copies of the adventure mode without PvP.

  • @lord-spark-0

Why must you insist this is a win for PvE server wanting players?

Sure this is a win for all pirates, but this thread just sounds like some Steam forum drama.

And say what you want. Speculate all you want. That is the facts. They could have easily kept to the PvEvP formula using the PoTC franchise but decided to keep the unknown threat of other players out of the experience.

Nah, this series of tales is much more cinematic, required instancing, has npcs, special mechanics. Tales should always have been separated, in this case they also most likely didn't want to hear any more crying on the PVE-only side of the pond.

You can harp all you want about (its only 5 tall tales) etc etc. The fact of the matter is its going to bring in revenue. Those of us that are for PvE servers can see the writing on the wall that there are many people that dont want to play the game as is and would prefer what Rare has already made. You can have all the delusions you want, at best you might get another series of instanced tales but it still won't be PVE servers. People will do the tales a few times and get bored, as always. People whine about having to do a tale 5 times to get a reward, how long will it last this time?

What do you think they are going to do when they see more dollar signs go up for this?? hmmmmm

Make another few PVE tales for you to enjoy in safety while also adding plenty of content to the main game?

    So, case closed.

Rare, ultimately, listened and gave the biggest year to the PvE crowd.

Yup, case closed indeed, you got your PVE space, you can stop whining and stirring the same old debate again.

You can remember this as the day you almost got PVE servers :)

  • @lord-spark-0

The fact that they have a major update that revolves around PVE with an unique experience, a story line with its own rewards and game play does not showcase any indication that the general gameplay will change.

The claims you make about the main crux of a solid No to a PvE anything thread is simply a false statement, go read the Mega thread if you do not believe me. Those that defend the game and the PvEvP genre have stated on multiple occasions that PvE that offers unique rewards, gameplay and does not overlap with the main adventure game is totally viable. It is those that are for PvE servers that fought back on that tooth and nail on such a limited implementation; this is not speculation, it is written in black and white... I know because I was part of the conversation.

If this turns out to be a success, you might see more tall tales follow this course of action. Yet they were already heading in this direction if you simply look at the tall tales previously added and the addition of check points. They already want you to follow the story line without risking it all. There is no writing on the wall that the Adventure mode is going to change at all or that one will ever be able to become legend without heading into it.

Also, nothing wrong with PvE in a PvEvP game, it is part of the genre and frankly has received most of the attention since day 1.... this isn't a change to the status quo.

  • What did they win tho?

From a story point like this. Something with a npc that follows you on your ship. There only one jack sparrow. So seeing other ships with jack and fighting would be crazy and weird. Story broken.

So having these tall tales locked in a pve area seems fine as they are.

  • So when people in celebratory mood, just curious what do you think is gonna happen when there is well known entrance to portal ?
You gonna come out and this is what you goign to see
    https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/pirates/images/5/55/Armada.JPG/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/1000?cb=20120424083637

  • Now another thing is if you can sail with your ship, and this is indeed different server, do you come back to different server? Can you imagine if you could use that to server hop with fully armed ship ?
I mean 1000 cannonballs loads of wood planks, raise Grade 5 reaper and you simply go in and out of the portal on different servers ?
    That would be brilliant.

  • @juan-jalapeno Why waste hours learning how to be rude to people when you could be off actually playing the video game?

  • @jadescissors32 I doubt emissary ranks, supplies, or loot will persist in the Tall Tale instancing.

Mhm. I was in that Thread just before they took it down. I was trolled and tagged by people that didn't want to hear my point of view and they even tried to convince me that Arena mode is a PvEvP mode when Arena itself is contradictory to anything having to do with PvE.. just to stretch their arguments against anything to do with PvE.

But anyways. I know you dont care and you often side with those people.

This is a win for the PvE crowd.

Look at the responses here. People are talking about 'camping' the entrance portal. Like they think we're coming back through it? Wouldn't people just log off in the other realm? Who knows.

But those are the ideas of PvP orientated players. Instead of having good fun, they would rather try their hardest to 'grief' other players (which is the main complaint of almost all PvE threads)

But you dont care. Oh well.

    Happy sailing. Im done here.

  • @joe-krakatoa

Because for 3 years, Ive seen new players come on to these forums and give feedback and often get bombed. This is a celebration for them.

Often, I see the same names tag the recent Podcast by the developers about this issue (which is in the title of this thread) where as Rare was up to a PvE mode all along. To me, this is a good thing by Rare and I think it really shows the direction the game could go and be successful.

This is a win for all pirates that want to see a PvE mode where they don't get grief on the Seas.

Don't get me wrong. I love to Pirate, but I also want to everyone to enjoy the game.

  • @lord-spark-0

You can try and twist the narrative around, but it doesn't mean that it is true. Look at my comments, even my very first one, in the mega thread and you will see for yourself. Actually go read my actual arguments in the mega thread before you try and discredit my position and make false claims about me. I was one of those that stated that PvE is viable without overlap, but yes I am a true PvP only backer.... I am a PvEvP player as are most people. It weren't the PvE crowd that was bashing this idea... right... go read the mega thread if you want to lecture me about it, an actual participant from the beginning till the very end. They are actually doing what I stated would be viable.

You can act like I don't care? Yet that is just making things personal, just because you don't want to be real. I even stated to you that I am happy they are adding something you are positive about. If your query is if this is a positive addition for those that enjoy PvE? Yes and I am also looking forward to this. If it is that this an indication of PvE Adventure servers... not in the slightest. You realize they recorded that podcast fully aware of the new additions to the game right...

  • @oddpoem71481766 but that would mean at the entrance there will be tons of storage crates, flags and loot. Portal seems to be accessible from inside of adventure so to get to it you have to be on the same server as everybody else.
if that's the case than camping entrance seems like great idea.

On the other hand, If you can take ship fully loaded in and get out, it will make possible to hide Grade 5 reaper on the map. Have one of the crew stay on ship while others watch FoF or emissaries poping out, than sail fully loaded ship out of portal. I hope portal does server merge when you come out, because sailing grade 5 reaper across servers would mean insane strategy. I mean right now once you clear server you have to lower flag and server hoop if you could take your supplied ship across it would mean much more interesting battles. Sometimes we have near 1000 cannonballs at the end of session, if we able to take this to another server that would change the game balance completely. Right now this only happens with server merges but if portal does server merge for you that would be insane.

  • You are welcome enjoy

And now the players calls have been answered.

....Lol has it though? One cool new instanced area to explore for the purposes of 5 Tall Tales, but you still have to go back to the main world if you want to do forts, voyages, or make any progress toward the cosmetics you want.

You will not see or experience anywhere close to everything that Sea of Thieves has to offer in that area alone. If you think you can enjoy the game only experiencing one small part of it, then you have at it, but we'll see you on the high and perilous seas again when you decide you want to find and sell any loot or make any progress in the game outside of that Tall Tale sequence :)
