Time to remove the level cap?

  • Ever since i hit the level cap of 50 several months ago the game has lost it's edge for me.
Sure it was fun being a Pirate legend for a while, sailing away on Athena's voyages.
But now, the biggest edge this game had for me is lost.
I simply no longer care about my treasure, i no longer worry about losing it to another pirate because i have plenty of coins and it's not like my levels will increase any further, it almost feels a chore having to cash it all in as i often end up with a ship full of the stuff as making regular trips to the outpost is no longer required.
The excitement and anticipation of finding loot has gone for me. I miss those days where i would worry about losing it all, and i also miss watching my levels slowly increase with every item cashed in. I'm not even sure i pay attention to the value of each item any longer.
So i have to wonder, why do we stop at level 50?
Why not just keep it going, and perhaps have new items, perhaps even titles and cosmetics unlocked at further levels.
I have a fear that Rare will simply just up the level of Athena and we will be stuck doing 2-4 hour missions and nothing else will be worthwhile.
As a result of all of the above, i find myself no longer playing as much as i once did.
Not because i dislike the game anymore, because i really do, and would love to be playing SOT for many years to come.
I'm at a point where i have nothing left to achieve. And that provides me with a rather empty playing experience.
Yes, we get regular updates with new bilge rat adventures etc, but those are often short lived and i'm back to wandering the seas just for the sake of it.
And before i am blamed for grinding so fast, i can assure you, it wasn't a grind. I loved every minute i put into this game and have played solo for about 75% of my time here.

I have read many post similar to this, and could have picked any of them to add this comment too. But i feel strongly that the level cap needs serious consideration if this game is to keep players keen on coming back for more.

So please Rare. Give serious consideration to removing the level cap and allow us all to get back to the excitement of finding loot.

Well, My Dear Mr Needsmokes , i fear that i'm totally the opposite of you. i no longer sail for Levels and i must say that i feel as free as if i was playing the Alpha's again...i luckely never grinded my way towards Legend, just the last two levels were a drag. Going from 48 towards 50 in Order of Souls had caught me but that grinding was over in a week, luckely because my inner happiness took quite a blow then...

i play because i love this game, because of all the different personalities i meet at the Sea who ,unknowingly, totally alter my journey in a way i would never suspected before...SOT is a magical tool that scrapes away people reservations towards eachother in a matter of a few hours...The Pirate you meet in minute One , is a totally different Pirate when you leave him/her after a few hours...Many Pirates are like Flowers who grow open after a while...Therefore not one journey is the same , that may sound lame ( * Oh ,George , you old moron, are we playing the game " i'm a poet and i didn't even know it " again?) but this is what it is for me...i come back because i love those beautiful visuals that are conjured on my screen ,i come back to hear the magistral music and sounds Mr Beanland and his crew have created. But i come back to bask in a Heartwarming glow that my Friends radiate to me , and i come back to meet and hopefully bring Joy and a Laugh to the unknown Pirate...

i help other Pirates and i fight them if they shoot first, i simply play to enrich others feel of playing...i don't care about losing treasure/ fights / ships , i just play in order to bring the opposite Pirates what they want...Fight or friendliness, i got it all to give away and THAT Sir is making me such a Free Soul...i don't HAVE to play this game anymore , i play because i really WANT to ...i want to meet others , i want to discover how he or she is going to enrich our journey and still i keep finding new aspects of this game and that after more than two years , alpha's included of course...This game keeps growing on me in a way , even if i could write English perfectly, i would never be able to describe...This game has a Soul, a Heart , and this game has grown, from a Toddler Pirate towards the Pirate it is today and it just keeps growing, opening doors to me i would never suspect that doors would go open after such a long time of playing...

i really fear that Mr Spencer will have to switch the server down in order that i will be able to discover other games because i hardly look over my shoulder to other games anymore...Sure i try them , but a few hours later ,i'm sailing again because no Story can be as strong a SOT adventure...

That is what keeps me going...So Please, Mr NeedSmokes, walk away from the Level path and see and feel what else is there to be discovered ...You would be suprized what is hiding in all those undiscovered layers of this game...Call me daft, call me white knight , or take the dare , what do you have to lose?...Fight , help meet and laugh with the Unknowns of the Sea and you will feel something growing back...The Will to Play...The most beautiful gift someone can recieve in the Digital World....

  • @clumsy-george im with u!
Im PL10 and any moment i get to sail i will sail. There is always something or someone to find and have fun with.

For example lately i been getting into a server and take the new sloop STRAIGHT solo into skelly ships and now defeat them without any supplies and just your bucket!

  • @needsmokes

u are not the first one to mention something like this.

For me the awnser is quite simple this game problem is the players who need a story or scoreboard to tell them what to do or keep track of what they did, once they are done with that they all come with we need more content to do.

Basicly its a toolbox game. Here are the tools now make your own story. Some like it some dont.

  • The won't change them due to the fact of pirate Legend stats

  • @Clumsy-George I'm with you good sir!
Always a pleasure to sail in your company, even if I have only done it twice so far!

  • Raise the cap!...
    Raise the cap!...
    Raise the cap!

    #raisethecap

  • or a Stats page??? Rank ships sunk. Rank Captains killed. Rank Captains Chest. Rank nautical miles sailed. Most??
