Unfair to solo players

  • @holleighberry

Your lack of situational awareness does not equate to unfairness.

If you don't check the horizon and the port ahead of time, you're too green to solo.

  • I play solo all the time. Personally I like the thrill of having to look over my shoulder, and also being chased. 99% of the time I manage to shake off my pursuers. I've only been robbed twice (hats off to those gentlemen). But with a little cunning and most importantly, keeping your eyes open, you'll succeed most of the time. I will be writing a solo-guide soon for those who are interested.

  • Bruh....I went to Plunder Outpost solo with a crewed galleon already there. Usually, I would have sailed on, but they don't call me One Eyed Willie fer nothin'!

I anchored at the eastern dock that's all run down. Got all me loot cashed in. On me last item cashing, I noticed that 3 of them were aboard me sloop. What did I do?

I boarded their galleon, killed the loan crewman aboard, then stayed below while the rest of them boarded and the ship set sail. I soon heard the sounds of music and grog being drunk.

At that point, I shot the powder keg they had below and killed 2 more of them when they came down to see before being cut down.

The moral of the story is, you suck at playing. Just kidding.

The true moral is play smart. If you have loot, but are not a good fighter, or do not want to risk the loss...there are other outposts, or you can do a sail-by (jump off with 1 loot, cash in, use mermaid to get back to ship).

If you are like me. You don't GAF and you do what you gotta do.

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me...YAR!

Good to see the community jumping in and offering hints and tips for survival as a solo sloop captain!

This thread also might be worth a read as it contains a few more ideas from some experienced captains -

    Fair winds to ye!

  • @holleighberry Solo Sloop is the game's hardest mode by design. You may want to consider teaming up on a larger ship.

  • Hey @holleighberry , you can look into this discussion "Give us our XP for finishing a voyage, not turning in the chest/soul/animal" there we discuss some ideas to do the xp earning and gold earning a bit more fair.

  • Always check out the port with your spy glass from a distance before heading in. If there's a ship, circle around or drop anchor and wait for them to leave, or find another port. Occasionally you'll run into a friendly crew and they'll leave you alone if you leave them alone, but you just got to play more and learn how to minimize risk.

And you will get raided and robbed a lot. Get used to it and laugh it off. Eventually you'll be doing it to other players and it will make up for all the castaway chests you lost starting out. :)

You know sea of thieves is more a social game then you might think. Please consider playing with others to avoid situations that you dont like obviously.

Just so you know from time to time i like playing solo because the game is thank god not like other games only about the most gold earned per hour but it is more about the fun and thrill and unique situations you might end up in and how you might have solved them by smart strategy or raw skill. And if i do play solo i like feeling the dangerous rush that playing in a perfectly coordinated 4 player galleon does not even do to me anymore. And then i do play in a perfectly coordinated 4 player galleon because it is another feeling of success when you do win by coordination and different but also smart strategy.

It is a little like pubg. In pubg you play for unique situations and the thrilling win does not go to the player with the most kills or best loot but to the smartest one who was the most thoughtfull of his actions.

  • This game is not balanced around solo, it never will be, you choose to play on solo you are choosing to play on the 'hardcore' mode, this is your choice. You don't get to complain about it when you get annihilated by a full crew of people working together.

Edit: Forgive me I overstepped my bounds. You DO get to complain about it that is your right to do so as a free thinking individual living in a country that allows free speach. But don't be surprised when no one takes that complaint seriously.
