Are they purposefully trying to kill the game?

  • -Lack of content and progression
    -Windows store
    -Ridiculous 70€ price tag
-No option to buy just the pc-version
-And now microtransactions on top of that

How can anyone in their right mind call these good decisions? I've lost all interest I had. Sorry for venting, just disappointed. The game had promise.

  • Bye bye, Don't let the Ferry of the Damns' door hit you on the way out.

  • What?

    ~ Captain Jay
    The Crow's Nest

  • I believe the comment....

    DO YOU EVEN READ BRO???????

has been lost on this OP pirate.

  • I don't think you ready all the press information from the Dev. They have a ten year plan with a majour update 3 months after launch and smaller ones ever couple weeks.

The fact you get free DLC and free season pass means they have to pay for it some how. And the micro transaction have no advantage on game play versus another player.

The game wont be for every one. The game will make a big impact this year. We will all just have a tone of fun without you.

  • Lol wut.

    1. Don't really know where you're getting your info because there's plenty of both.
    2. Meh, it's a Microsoft game so it's to be expected. Worth putting up with.
    3. It's a console game. Price is in line with industry standard.
    4. Why would you want to? The price would be the same.
    5. COSMETICS ONLY Did you miss that?

I would love to know exactly what you were expecting? As it sounds like a completely different game.

  • No, they are not trying to kill it. Well, if they are they are doing a really, really poor job of it.

This game is hotter than a cannonball exploding on a sun-soaked tropical beach.

  • Don't feed the troll!

They thrive in wet, dark places and eat [Mod edited] for breakfast.

  • Hellova 1st post bruh!

Should prolly done some readin' up before creating an account!

  • @wertymk Bye bye

  • I love the lack of leveling and stats. Means i'll be able to play together with my friends for the entire time we play. I thank Rare for that. I have no hatred towards microtransactions. Loot boxes i hate but i can get behind something if i know exactly what i get.

However after saying that i'm still concerned with the price tag and content. Even after all these Alphas, betas and the press releases this week i'm still dreading to do the same fetch quest repeatedly until end game which is then just more of the same.

I'm also a fan of crossplay and cross saves though so i'm all for the windows store release. I play Killer Instinct on my laptop because i can carry my save with me on the go but i know that the PC audience at large isn't a fan and no doubt they will run into issues during launch which will put them off even further.

    Bye.

  • Save the outrage for a dev team that genuinely deserves it. I'd be willing to bet that if I went through your game history right now, there'd be one or two games on there implementing practices far more egregious than SoT which you actively supported.

If the gaming community at large continuously goes out of its way to search for the next BFII at the expense of the fair dev studios, then the genuine feedback's going to be muddied by this sort of garbage that the OP's come up with.

I wish I had time to give a more detailed post outlining each of your concerns but I am at work. For now, I would strongly suggest going over to the /r/seaofthieves sub-reddit and reading the embargo-lift megathread. There is TONS of stuff regarding what we will get come release. If you have already read it all then I'm sorry it doesn't live up to your expectations.

I am curious however why it is bad that you get both xbox and PC game with one purchase. I thought this was a cool plus.

  • @wertymk said in Are they purposefully trying to kill the game?:

    -Lack of content and progression

horizontal progression, not a bad idea. won't be coming against a high rated player when you are just starting.

    -Windows store

i haven't used it. on xbox and have a mac.

    -Ridiculous 70€ price tag

welcome to the ongoing increase of video game prices. on par with every other game out there. the game time played to cost ratio looks to be very good.

-No option to buy just the pc-version

when you buy one version you get both. whats wrong with that?

-And now microtransactions on top of that

micro transactions have no impact to the progression of the game. plus, there's going to be FREE DLCs! would you rather pay for a DLC?

sounds like a random complaint thread. this game looks like a lot of fun. easily get +20hrs from it and

  • Game's not out yet.
Please don't start screaming at it already.
    Thank you.

  • @clumsy-george

Thank you for recognizing why a game cost what it does in the place it does and actually knowing what you are talking about rather than blaming all the people from a particular country. Thank you for being intelligent sir.

  • I get that feeling ops thread is sinking fast, man the cannons😆

  • @wertymk W*F.
Windows store? I appreciate it that way, stop feeding other stores.

  • @m4tt3r4u I mean, I understand being sarcastic to some degree. But this is not how you should handle things like this. I think people have a right to vent and express their dislike for the choices Rare has made. Because lets be honest, Rare doesn't really know what they're doing here. This is new ground for them, and there are bound to be things they could use feedback on.

Now I am not suggesting that the OP is right, I personally don't have a problem with the items he/she listed. But to simply dismiss their post and concern without any real consideration that they might have some valid points, is not only foolish, its a great way to turn a reasonable community into a toxic one.

Now that you mention it that way, this game's planned development cycle is really similar to Path of Exile. They put out content every 3 months, and are funded by continuing microtransactions. Now, their game is free, so maybe some people will favor that over this game's model, but you also have to realize some of their MTX supporter packs cost a few hundred dollars. That's much more expensive than I expect any in this game to cost.

My own personal opinion after playing PoE for years is that this development cycle is great for the community, and I personally don't really see any downsides. Some people will look cooler than you do, but it isn't like they can buy the pirate legend gear in the shop. That still has to be earned. The upside is that the developers continue to make money that they can spend developing features for the game. Nobody's forcing anybody to buy anything.

  • This ridiculous 60€ price tag for this kind of game is pretty normal i think

  • @wertymk you should work for free olso!!! and don t get pay for it!!! or only 5 euros an hours ...
you want content and quality for cheap? i hope in you life is the same, if you ask to others every thing for cheap!... i believe you work very hard and do an amazing job for very little money in return...
Rare prove to us they are passionate, did clearly the most amazing pirate game ever made!!! good news... it will keep improving like gta online... and guy like u give no value to it... just ask for every thing for cheap... just wait and buy it later!... why you bother if the game is suck in your point of view?... you believe skull and bone with their dlc will be cheap? i can imagine already their gold pack at 109 euros easy... come on... buy it second hand cd and you gonna be fine... seriously!!!

  • @ant-heuser-kush I find it funny how people will moan and complain over micro-transactions and will throw a fit over how "its not on steam so it must be bad"

id honestly take micro-transactions with free DLC any day over having to pay for every update

  • Allow me to elaborate.

    1. It's true that I haven't played the game but that's the general consensus I'm sensing from streamers, youtubers and and articles. I may be wrong of course.

    2. Presonal preference I guess, I'd like to keep my games in one place. Plus I have all of the people I play with on steam, it's more difficult to get them anywhere else. It's simply more convenient. And I'd rather not support microsoft platforms as a pc gamer, they'll just try to force xbox stuff down my throat and/or monopolize pc gaming.

    3. I'm used to pc games costing no more than 50€ here. 60€ if it's a new release from a big bad publisher like EA or ubisoft. And even then I'll wait for a sale. It seems that big publishers want to hoist the prices of new pc releases to the same level as consoles. If I'm getting nothing in return for a higher price why should I accept that?

    4. I don't own an xbox and probably never will. In my opinion the better versions of games are always on pc. So why should I pay console prices for a game I'm only going to play on pc? Again I get nothing in return. Getting both the pc and the xbox version of the game is the only justification for the price I can think of. Allowing you to buy just the other version for less would just be good customer service.

    5. Even if it's just cosmetics it's still content locked behind a paywall. And that's simply the wrong way to do things, especially when you have to pay a hefty price for the game itself. I would much rather pay less for the game plus a monthly fee and get the full game. Microtransactions can stay on mobile.

  • I am curious however why it is bad that you get both xbox and PC game with one purchase. I thought this was a cool plus.

because he hope this can be cheaper that it!!! .... sad!! why peoples think that way... i notice many peoples who complain about gameprice have actualy trouble with their budget!! smoking, partying the weekend,... what ever they do, many of my friend who complain about video game prices spend 10 times more in leasure, they should just think what more important for them, smoke ? go out with friend? or play video game? but they want do it all so they complain about the price of video games...

  • @ant-heuser-kush Agreed. Those of us on console would have to pay the base price for the game, the monthly fee and the subscription price for the Xbox Live service.

    60+15/mo or 180/yr+60=no thanks...

  • @ant-heuser-kush
Maybe they could split the package, 35€ for one version and do a monthly fee that gives you all of the microtransaction stuff while you have an active subscription. AND allow you to buy just the things you want with the mtx. That would be great service. The game looks fun but I just can't accept the greedy pricing.

  • How I feel this thread is going..........

  • I can agree Microsoft is the worst thing about this game. I know of several people who refuse to buy the game just because of that.

  • @wertymk you got no clue how much it cost to make a game and still you talk... the only thing you know is price of other video games... and for a microsolf game you expected olso it release on ps4? Come on microsoft paying for this projet, what do you expect???!!! just wish a fails from microsoft if you hate them that much!!! for my point of view only SoT Give me the pirate game i wished, i will pay the price for it at least to say thanks to them for have tried and did a so great job. Because a pirate game was a very dangerous bet as a projet... And they did great and im happy the game will still grow!!! and not just stay at it is, with a price of 50 euros with no mini transactions. I believe pay 20 dollars more and see more ships in future... own an islands... have new islands on the maps, new clothes, and new weird funny tools and trading compagny even more interesting one to an other... yes it actualy seems cheap for me... i wonder what i might do with 20 euros save? invite my wife in mac donalds!!! 15 minutes of joys eating burger... again 100 hour + gameplay? i chose the gameplay.... sorry for my wife!

  • @ant-heuser-kush
I meant an optional subscription. Pay a subscription = get everything on both platforms while subscription is active, pay mtx = get the item you paid for for good on both platforms. Also if you want just one version it costs you 35€. If you want both it costs 70€. Or like 50€ for one version, +20€ for the other if you already have one.

  • @ant-heuser-kush
And that's their plan to pump more money out of pc gamers I guess.
-"Hey, it's two games for the price of one!"
-"But this costs more than games usually cost. And I don't have an xbo..."
-"TWO FOR THE PRICE OF ONE!"

Good thing it seems to be just microsoft games for now.

  • @casesugar401098 said in Are they purposefully trying to kill the game?:

Come on now, really? There are tons of companies worse than Microsoft and people give them money year after year.

    cough Konami/EA cough

Are people mad now because Microsoft is getting an awesome exclusive? Let them get this one, PS4 still has awesome games like God of War, Last of Us, Horizon...

Besides, if you own a PC you can play it either way. Even on c****y PCs.

Rare has put a lot of work and love into this game and it shows. It’s going to be awesome. And arguments like that are disingenuous and don’t really add anything to the conversation.
