First days playing: Thoughts and Impressions

  • So I just started Sea of Thieves and just wanted to give some quick feedback to the devs.
First day: Played about 2 hours
Played with players and they got angry that I didn't know what I was doing but offered no explanations. Part of the problem is I could not chat, I assume the chat button bugged out. There's also no text chat, which was jarring. After 2 hours of playing alone I finally figured out how to request a voyage, bring up the map, and dig up the treasure. The part I 'learned' were things the game could have just told me. Go to this guy, this quest is zero gold, put on captain's table (to be fair game does tell this) then use E to bring up map and look at it. During the 2 hours I learned how to pilot my boat. Saw no enemy ships/players.

Next night: Played closer to 4-5 hours. Played with groups of people and had a much better time. I saw the appeal of the game, the excitement of finding other crews, the frustration of being spawn camped, and watched a treasure chest cry. It wasn't bad. Encourged me to give it another go this weekend.

Tonight: Logged in. I could not use mouse button 1. I could in menus, just not to swing a weapon/use items. Enemy crew boarded ship while I was trying to figure it out and killed me. Started working while I was being killed. Then came out of death to my allies having the boat stuck. The refused to scuttle it. I left game.

Came back in and I have no items. Not even a bucket. My treasure chest of items is empty. No shopkeeper selling anything and says 'come back later'. I assume bugs but tried multiple times and no items means no fun.

Summary: Game needs just 2-3 lines of text to guide a new player on at least how to get started. Fun with a group if things work. Missing items means unplayable game.
Game is leaving a bad impression on me; wouldn't recommend anyone pre-order it as it stands.

Thanks for reading, have fun and goodnight.
