Third Person View

  • The game wasn’t really designed for 3rd person. Imagine running around below deck like that, especially while fighting.

  • I have a friend that doesn't play first person games. Only enjoys third person games. I for one enjoy third person a bit more than first person but I'll play a game both.

Only issue is he doesn't even want to try SoT b/c it's in first person. Being able to swap between view modes like in battlefront would be great in my opinion.

All you guys mentioning competitiveness would be ruined, this isn't a competitive game. There's pvp but it's a super casual MMO online type game that isn't esports or anything competitive. Give players choice please.

  • Perhaps a solution would be a character model we can rotate in the start menu. Currently you can sorta see your character but being able to rotate and zoom to get a good look at our outfits would be nice without disrupting gameplay (and safely being able to ooo and aaa over your character).

  • Would love to see 3rd person mode.. Give us the choice...

    Definitely +1 from me..

  • @nefrit-od ultrawide monitors are also a tactical advantage with more field of view. Giving people the option to play 1st or 3rd would not be an advantage as people have the option to use it or not. Those that didn't use it might be at a disadvantage, so what? If they want the advantage they can pay in 3rd person mode. No one is nerfing my widescreen because it gives me a tactical advantage.

If games like Astroneer can do it while digging out little holes in the rock I'm sure SoT can manage. It could also switch to 1st person below decks.

  • @breezy-peesy First of all: Necro!

Second: I prefer 3rd person view as well, but adding this is some serious change.
Adding 1st person view to a game after release gives some players the option to alter their game experience at the cost of some disadvantages.
Adding 3rd person after release puts everyone on a disadvantage until they alter their game experience to something they didn't even want to buy in the first place. As much as it's normal that online games change over time, I would argue at this point the game even changed its genre and no longer is what was sold to me. Next step, demand refund.

  • I wouldn't mind having third person at all. I don't believe it would change the game as much as some believe. However even if that never happens I would AT LEAST like to have more camera options for looking at my characters gear, etc.

Right now the emotes are cool, but the camera does not zoom in or out far enough and I can only see my character perform the emotes. What if I want to be holding my new blunder buss and see my character? I can't! This is upsetting because I want to be able to see things like this. More 3rd person options need to be added.

  • Folks, please don't necro topics this old.

As for 3rd person, this was a very specific design decision around the immersiveness of experiencing the world in 1st person, and is built into the architecture of the game.
