C'mon give us Pve/Guild/Alliance servers already!

  • Right guys, enough is enough with this stupidity that you punish PvE players with completely restricted servers. No gold multiplier on your "Community" weekend? not very community is it?

I'm about 2,000 hours into this game, most, not all of which has been on alliance servers. We have 3k members who ALL want to sail on occasion on PvE servers (there are MANY other alliance groups out there too, bigger than us) Now most of our regulars have had enough and are turning away from your game, despite still wanting to actually play, let that sink in, there's a whole audience of sailors out there you are deliberately turning away, for what?
Now, before someone cries about commendations or its unfair blah blah blah, why is Minecraft STILL so popular? why is GTA5 still so popular? Why does every single significant online franchise allow people to have as many of their friends together on one server and have fun? Is any of this making sense? EVEN CoD/fortnite encourage and even reward custom matches. Do these games have a thriving community on both PvP and PvE, of course!! because people DO like both sides.

If you wrote 4 hours of an essay, or program code and then the pc died and you lost everything, is that fun? would your boss enjoy that? would YOU enjoy that? what if that happened 3-4 times in a row, you've just started that job too, would you stay? would you want that fixed as that's stressful as heck!? No one enjoys being attacked and losing their sessions efforts to another player. You understand that this game demands hours of play at a time, its not a hop on for 20 mins kind of game? None of us have the patience anymore to lose that, we are all coming to an end with your game, which is gutting. I have met some permanent friends through our alliance servers, thanks to your game!

You say your game is a sandbox for people to enjoy, but it isn't, people want to play WITH FRIENDS. People want to play a game and have a sense of fun, there's a massive and I do mean MASSIVE amount of players out here in the wild that would play your game again, if only you would listen. Even allow up to 8 players/2-3 boats on the same safer seas server, with everything opened as normal but maybe like half the xp earned compared to high seas OR You want to make money from your game, give us PvE servers like a Minecraft realm, an added monthly subscription and watch how many people sign up for it.

GIVE THE PLAYERS CHOICE HOW TO USE THE SANDBOX! Feels more like a bully telling us how to play their way or don't play at all.

ALSO, before the PvP core come at me, how about new Hourglass game modes? Imagine team deathmatch style games, 3 guilded sloops Vs 3 guilded sloops or 6 boat free for all. even make them 'hardcore' by matches placed in the roar! There's so much potential in this game to improve its appeal to ALL players, but no, we have to be content with lizards, gulls and jellyfish!

    from rare itself:

The game design and intent for Sea of Thieves is a shared world adventure, and it always will be. Those who wish to play in the confines of Safer Seas will always have the option but we will not bring the rewards and activities in line with those of High Seas when many of the restrictions are in place due to the risk vs reward factor that is inherent in Sea of Thieves - removing any risk means rewards must be balanced accordingly.

Safer Seas will act not only as a safe space for our Tall Tale players but also for families with children who just want to pirate, for people who want to play the game but learn the ropes and it will organically feed into Adventure mode, keeping the player pool there healthy and upskilled as they've learned the mechanics.

This is not only useful for new players but also families and players with accessibility needs - the whole game suddenly becomes available in a way it hasn't before, letting them naturally progress to High Seas and become a Pirate Legend. SoT has grown a huge amount in 5 years and it can be fairly overwhelming.

The borders put in Safer Seas mean that to experience the full depth and breadth of the game you will have to hit the high seas BUT if you're playing with your family you don't have to, you can just enjoy the game and have fun as a family.

  • Custom servers would solve a lot of these seperate types of gameplay (PvE, PvP and everything in between).
    No gold & rep though.

  • Because this is how the game is designed to be.

I just learned how to play chess this year, and I keep losing after spending time developing strategies to use against my opponent. I also lose pieces to the tricky movements knights make. Is this fun? NO. Pawns should be able to move in any direction they wish, knights shouldn't move in an L-shape, and my king should be the most powerful piece on the board. But, this is chess, and this is how the game is played. I enjoy playing it regardless, and because I lose a lot, it means I need more learning and experience under my belt, as you'll find in most games. Sea of Thieves is no different.

  • This would destroy the meaning of the game entirely.
Its sea of thieves, not sea of alliances.

I hope Rare will never add something like this ever.

The one thing everyone would be ok with though, is custom servers.
No Rep & Gold, but you can do whatever you want.
But until now they are only available to partners.

Its also not very "community", if youre playing without the community on a private server.

In this example, are you and your boss aware that this PC had issues and could die at any moment? I mean it died on you once, and then you and your boss both thought it wise to continue using the same PC 2-3 more times.

If you find this PC is unfit for work, don't use it. If you both are aware of the risks, and you willingly use the pc 3-4 times, then whether or not you enjoyed it or found it stressful, it resulted from your decision making.

Likewise, being aware of what this game is, if you don't think it's wise to engage in it, you're better off finding another one.

Anyway, SoT isn't your day job. SoT is a game. No revenue on the line. No one's employment is threatened. No lives are lost for you failing to turn in loot. It's not that deep.

Even people who do compete for a living (i.e. athletes) do so for the love of the sport, and understand that they will sometimes lose. If 3-4 Ls in a row is enough to dissuade someone from getting better & competing again, then they probably weren't meant for that sport.

You've played for thousands of hours. You know what this game is. You know what the risks are.

No one enjoys being attacked and losing their sessions efforts to another player. You understand that this game demands hours of play at a time, its not a hop on for 20 mins kind of game?

Idk about "enjoy" losing lol. But people can be detached enough to just move on to the next fight/server. I like to look at losses as an opportunity to learn. A silver lining. Every time my crew loses, we play the "what could we have done differently" game, while recognizing mistakes and considering alternative actions/tactics/strategies.

But being attacked? That's part of the reason to log in lol. Contest is why MMA fighters step into the octagon. Its why NBA players show up to the court. They are expecting opposition, and hoping to overcome it. They practiced for this. They want this.

Likewise, and not to sound cliche, in Sea of Thieves, players should expect thievery of the loot they spent however long collecting.

If you want to avoid risk, sell often and avoid risky activities (emis, world events). It is absolutely possible to have 20 min short sessions, or only spend 20 min on a server before hopping. Rare added the ability to dive for raids and voyages, with varying difficulties, just to accommodate for players with less play time.

... ALSO, before the PvP core come at me, how about new Hourglass game modes?... even make them 'hardcore' by matches placed in the roar!

I mean sure. But these would probably come with their own set of commendations/achievements and rewards, yes? It wouldn't be some easy alternative to existing Adventure grinds?

If you're asking for a standalone PvE "mode" outside of Adventure, with separate reward tracks, then that's something I could get behind; but likely won't happen due to Rare's inability to manage multiple modes.

They fumbled Arena. They learned nothing and fumbled HG. They have given me no reason to doubt that they'd drop the ball with any additional HG modes too. I'd rather see them make adjustments to the current HG format, before trying to shoehorn a TDM mode into the Devil's Roar lol. Which sounds awful, btw.

  • Oh god not this again...

Don't you understand that if Rare give us "choice how to use the sandbox" as you call it, it would fundamentally change the how game is played? We would lose the pvpve aspect of it, which is the best part of SoT and why the game is so unique.
There would be boring pve servers with no threat and boring pvp servers with no loot and nothing in between.

No, this is a game breaking idea. People would get what they want in a week and leave. The game is not a grindfest with meta asap's. This is unpredictable adventure game. "There is no adventure without danger" as Falcore used to say. I can't believe we're discussing this in 2025...

  • @kingphil1979 you bought a PvPvE game and live all day in spaces where Rare do not like and did not intend for you to do so. So no making it easier for large groups that just farm gold all day and offer no organic gameplay that becomes boring and predictable. Definitely not the game Rare made!

  • As the official answer has already been given in one of the replies I am dropping anchor here.
