Shores of Gold and Gold Hoarder skull

  • I was quite surprised when I recently completed the tall tale of Shores of Gold and I earned just a skull as loot in return. If you ask any player, or search comments around the internet you will see that everyone expected the tall tales to get you on an island with lots and lots and LOTS of gold. Something like that. Instead you get a really cool looking skull, the skull of Rathbone which gets you 10k gold from the Order of Souls. So, Ok. But why not give us oos reputation when we sell it? Why not apply bonus to the skull's value from the emissary flag's grade??? The Gold Hoarders trading company has vault voyages, while the Order of Souls and the Merchants have nothing that special. You can partly change this, regarding the Order of Souls for now. You already have the Shores of Gold. Give a reason to players to go there again and fight the Gold Hoarder; for the OoS this time.

Also, I know that there is a lot of gold on the tribute peak. You can't take any of it though. You can't interact with it.

    TL;DR
Apply flag grade multiplier to Gold Hoarder skull. And Order of Souls rep in return.

I take it you haven’t played in awhile maybe?

Order of Souls get ghost ship voyages besides the bounty voyages.

Merchants get 3 different voyage types along with the new commodity trading system.

  • I am a new player and thus Shores of Gold are new to me, just like vaults and the rest. If you go on discord right now most people are doing reapers, pvp, or vaults, and I say vaults because noone bothers digging chests. The real specialty of the gold hoarders are the vaults. These are why people raise the gh glag. Reapers are pretty self explanatory.
On the other hand what do Order of Souls have? Swording skelletons which spawn anyway when you set foot on any island that is not an outpost? Or shooting NPC ships with your cannons who might spawn anyway? Remember we also have skeleton ships which can spawn randomly. Not to mention Flameheart.
Next up, the Merchant Alliance has the lost cargo voyages which are the most interesting relatively to the rest of its other types of voyages (would you rather deliver crates to some random npc or search for clues that lead to lost cargo(=treasure) ?). Still, you can randomly find crates on the shores of islands and you pass by sunken ships every now and then while sailing.
The point that I want to pass along is that out of the three Trading Companies that sell voyages(GH, OoS, MA), Gold Hoarders are the only ones who can provide something unique. I know there are vaults in the tall tales.
In the end, reasoning the grinding of nine tall tales with another balanced gold grind is what I ask and maybe what the community wants. Shores of Gold would be an interesting challenge to optimize for grinding. I hope this reply makes my original input clear.

  • They have hinted that Athena will push you to go to Shores of Gold so it will be a reason for people to be there except the TT itself.

Is this about a possible future release?

  • @xawlet I understand your point however you have it wrong. “Grinding the tall tales” as you put it rewards you with the gold curse. Instead of grinding for gold or rep you are grinding for a cosmetic that you don’t pay for that literally makes you made of gold.

Playing it further than 5 times makes little sense and by the 5th time you have done all 9 you will certainly be tired of the shores of gold. Currently the place is empty in relation to other islands although this will hopefully change as someone else stated with future Athena updates.

  • To add to this btw, the community as a majority doesn’t want to give any more reason to PvP regarding tall tales. Most players undertaking them would rather not have to fight other players during them. Making it so there are more items to steal like the gold hoarder skull will multiply the PvP associated with tall tales.

I personally leave others alone when I see they are doing tall tales, have no loot, and have no emissary flag up.

  • @xawlet

Yes, it was in one of the YouTube update-videos a 2-4 months ago. No clue when we will get this but it's something

  • The gold hoarder skull used to be affected by the emissary bonus but was remove when it was taken full advantage and got farmed for hours to make huge amount of gold in sort times. I hope in the future Tribute Peak will be use more for tall tales and Athena voyage

  • @xawlet I agree, even for people who steal it it would be fun to sell for some extra change!

  • Take heed of the pirate lord's words at the end of the tall tale. It's not about the gold, it's about the glory.

  • @capt-soul-beard Now everything makes sense. But the solution they went with, the easy one, is worse because it renders the whole storyline irrelevant... "Shores of Gold".

  • Per the Lore all of that gold is cursed! Pirate Lord hints at this at the end of his speech. I do agree though, it could pack a bit more punch in terms of reward in some way. :)
