About CrossPlay

  • I’m I the only one that careless about Crossplay being an option now in the next upcoming update? I just want to play the game and that’s it. No offense to those that are forever against the option to do Crossplay, or to those that would want Crossplay to be an option. It’s just a game...by that I mean I just want to play it 😐😕, sorry if I do make it seem like I don’t care about people’s opinion...* starts to put on the hard helmet of resisting unargumentive comments *

  • You are very far from the only one. :)
I trust that rare will continue doing great things for this game. Zero worries, especially about this addition of an opt out option for crossplay.
Any announced change, and some people panic. They believe they know better, and they have no trust in the people that have created the thing we're all enjoying.

    It'll be fine.

    1. How long have you been playing SoT and what are your rep. points?
    2. XBox or PC?

  • @prorapidkiller NO! You HAVE to pick a side!!! I want your opinion polarized so that I can hold the opposing viewpoint and bash your replies unrelentingly! No matter how in-depth or logical your thoughts are, no matter how hard you try to reason with me, it’s already too late! Don’t even try to apologize! If you feel that you may have been incorrect or that your perspective is limited and possibly biased, you’ve already scarred me for life and I might even invite other people who are on my side and as angry as I am to corner you and righteously upvote my post while I upvote theirs!! If you don’t tell me which platform you play this game on, my head is going to EXPLODE!!!

    All jokes aside, cheers!

I share @PRORapidKiller's opinion. This decission is wrong. If at all, it had to be controller vs WASD.

There had been other solutions. For example, increase the loading time of the muzzle loaders, add black powder pack, stopper, bullet, stick. Maybe the stick only. In a battle you might have had one shot, or two shots from distance, then it would be the swords.

This would also answer the question of what can be done at sea in the meantime: you tie black powder packs, roll loading plugs, clean the weapon.

That would have been an adequate solution, in my view.

  • @prorapidkiller The "its just a game" doesn't work when people spend their hard earned cash on a product only for it to be ruined after delivery. This is something that warrants a refund to all PC players. Its almost impossible to find a full server as it is and this is only going to get worse for PC players who will be essentially be treated like second-class players for the game they payed the same exact price for.

I could agree with the decision if it were arena only, but outside of a competitive environment, this is an egregious breach of trust.

I'm lost. Maybe I don't understand the original post.

    Which decision is wrong?

I personally don't like Rare making cross-play optional. I am very glad it is at least 'optional', but overall, it was sold as a cross-play online multiplayer pirate game. I don't like Rare changing it because of a few newbs that whine.

Overall, I love Sea of Thieves and I don't plan on leaving the game. I just hope Rare don't keep tweaking the game for a few VERY LOUD folks that find the game too hard.

  • I'm pretty dumb ok but I just don't understand all this fuss. There is going to be a choice. So don't choose it. In my mind there's going to be no difference. Like I said I'm pretty dumb, prove me wrong. lol

I see your point and I am very grateful that it's going to be an option, BUT... Why is it even going to be?

Well, I think what upsets most of the people that are against the option to turn off cross-play is that 99% of the player base did not ask for it. Rare keep giving in and making the game easier and easier. I think many of us see that the loud minority keep getting these changes. Us OG players might be worried about how far Rare will keep going to change the game.

To make crossplay an option, afaik.

    So.

  • @dislex-fx
Yeah I'm with you regarding things being made easier in some respects. I've been playing since alpha day dot so I have seen all the changes and evolution so far and I mostly solo sloop and love it. (Slightly off topic but without that previous experience I think I would struggle to stick with the game solo sloop as it is currently but I enjoy the challenge).
We all knew the game would evolve further over time and as a "game as a service" type of deal it needs to do just that. RARE listen but do they listen too much? Perhaps.
I still think being given choices is a good thing and for the game to evolve in future I think there will always be changes someone doesn't like or agree with. Hard to keep everyone happy (not sure about the 99% you quoted) but I trust RARE have the numbers. I can't see 1% influencing such an option because it's gonna take some work to implement all this.
On a side note I am on X1X and am happy to play alongside PC players I just still don't get all the fuss and think if you don't select/opt out of crossplay that anything much will be different.
People asking for refunds just really haven't thought it through in my mind.
Anyway I'm still dumb but thanks for reading. (-:

Yes, one has the impression that the sheer number of noisy contributions wins, completely irrelevant how clear and supernumerary the number of countermeasures are.

It just goes on: every minute someone screams, he needs a solo mode, because he was sunk the first time he tried to give something away at the outpost. Stupid, he didn't pay attention to the brigantine and didn't pay any attention to the sloop either, but of course it's the missing passive mode that's to blame. I can hardly eat as much as I have to throw up.

  • I've never particularly cared for optional crossplay, I just wanted people to stop complaining about it and understand that it's unnecessary for now and Rare need to focus on more quality content. But unfortunately the community focuses on "change because I want" without thinking about the consequences. Crossplay will be optional, we will have private servers, possibly we will not have PvP very soon, in the end, the game will become something similar to one of the images below.

  • @prorapidkiller no youre not only one. The whole things just a waste of time Imo. Im not even looking forward to Arena, tbh I just want more events in the "main" game

  • The servers not being populated is not going to be affected by Optional Crossplay, that is purely related to session generation and player distribution.

At any given time you have countless players joining/leaving sessions, it simply isn't feasible for every server to be fully populated at any given time which is where the server merges come in and we all know how much everyone loves those.

Rare has the data to aid in their decision making, and have been keeping an eye on this for a very long time. Nothing was taken away, a cross platform game was purchased, and everyone still has a cross platform game. More than likely, it will be a minority of players who actually opt-out as many have friends who play on a different system, or simply don't care.

  • @targasbr

Surving on the sea in a small boat with a little sail could be a lot of fun. Looks like the other example still has cosmetics so it is not all bad. :)

There are things we all ask for that we do not need. There are things that we do need. Sometimes it is also nice to get something you did not know you even wanted. Key is balancing it all out. Why we all need to come more together and sail on more united here and on the sea.

  • @dislex-fx I’ve been playing SOT when a friend bought it for my last year in March when it came out for the XboxONE. I am Lvl. 50 in GH, OOS, and MQ, and achieved Pirate Legend and currently sitting at almost being a LVL 7 in Athena. And I play on the XboxONE. 😐
I’m going to throw this in the pot as well, majority of the time, me (soloing) and me with my friends rarely get into PVP mode since most the time, other ships don’t provoke us or vice versa. We were and are currently grinders.

  • @wizenedsphere25 Oh well, never saw it in that perspective. I mean I understand that a lot of people are storngly opposed with the optional Crossplay and that how it may or will make the game less enjoyable with PVP mainly. Again I didn’t want to offend anyone (hence why I said it and put on the hard helmet).

  • @they-sank I play Xbox.....but again I really didn’t care so much about crossplay being optional.
    Mood currently: 😐

I always do this on my Sloop

I really believe that if Rare added an opt-out crossplay button that was not functional, a lot of people would find the crossplay turned off and would stop complaining. I have already given several arguments and statistics that explain why this is not necessary at the moment, but unfortunately I do not have current statistics, so I prefer to leave the discussion there.

  • @targasbr

I was thinking a smaller boat that you sit in. No cannons. Faster and nimble. Only a crew of one. Maybe sit back and hand a rudder and work the single sail by ropes. One or two barrels and a storage chest.

I would love to see this ship on Sea of Thieves.
