The trailer and loading screen show a 7 foot statue. In game they're all like 2 feet. Anyone found a big one like in the trailer and loading screen yet?
Has anyone found a large mermaid statue yet?
@tedakin I don't think they are in the game yet matey... but if you do find one let us all know!
I suspect an upcoming event may tackle this?
@tedakin interesting point!
Looking forward to see this coming.But I'm pretty sure this is just marketing product. Like it was with the megalodon in the Hungering Deep.
I didn't even find one positioned that vertically straight too. Every single one seems to be a bit tilted
Reminds me of a Father Ted perspective joke, these are small...those are far away
@tedakin
I think the perspective in the photo makes it look misleading. All the statues i’ve found are tinyI retract my previous statements. Rare has changed the size of the statues as of Patch 1.1.7 to be more reflective of the load screens & marketing materials. I don't want to be picky, they are still smaller than they are shown, but at least this was a step in the right direction.
"Cursed Mermaid Statues have been increased to match the intended model scale."
Good on them to realize this was a small thing that just doesn't sit right with people, but was worth fixing.
~~Seems very representative of the game in a nutshell. Has all the makings of a great game, but for some reason has really scaled down its potential.
Maybe they made the artwork but then realized that the statues would be too easy to find if they were large? They probably realized, oh shoot, the sea floor does not have as much seaweed and shipwrecks as shown in the artwork and sticks out like a sore thumb.
Pretty misleading if you ask me. This is absolutely not forced perspective either. All the pirates are looking at the statue, so in the first image, the statue is clearly in the background, and already appears larger than the pirate. Unless they really wanted to screw with everyone and the second pirate is looking off into empty ocean and the statue is between them.
Second image could be some forced perspective, but the light shining from the lantern has a known fixed distance and appears on the statue.
All fluff and no substance as usual. I'll correct my post if someone comes across one, but I am skeptical.~~

Or maybe it was larger for the screenshots and trailer so you know what you are looking for...

I finished this yesterday...did not see anything special about any of the ones I ran across with my crew. They were all the same size.
@tedakin I was really disappointed with the size of the statue in game (especially compared to the pictures). Destroying them was quite boring and anti-climactic. Wish they had a better offensive mechanic and larger size.
The loading screens are usually screen captures. you cant gesture underwater to compare, but I think they are pretty much the same size. They are not masive, but neither were they in the trailer.
It's true the way to destroy them is kinda meh. Some magic lazers, or the gem dropping afterwards or something like that would have been nice.Large statues only spawn when there is an active skull cloud at Lost Gold Fort. If you have a Chest of Sorrows aboard, play it a tune to get it to stop crying. A large Mermaid Statue should spawn directly under your ship. Once destroyed, deliver the rubies to Wanda at Golden Sands in order to help her find a cure for her affliction. Happy Sailing!
It's just as said earlier - a perspective issue.
In fact, it's not even that. It's a promotional image not a specific screenshot. They use legal artistic liberty in presenting the stuff in ways that aren't specifically reflected in game to sponsor interest, highlight the spirit of the in game offering, and express the general sense of wonder that art is meant to express.
If there really is a massive monolithic statue in the game world... I'd be amazed.
@tedakin meh, your not wrong. No, it's not false advertising lol (f*s I can already see the thread now) but... yea your right.
