If they add a battle royale it should be a time limited bilge rat adventures. They could bring it back once a month or so. It would give them time to work on other biweekly events. But if it was a permanent item I fear it would take away from the main game. Example fortnite... No one plays the original version of the game..... If the servers for standard play were empty it would be boring.

Most seem to be against it as it feels soley pvp which isn't in keeping with current game dynamics being pvpve.
I'd be against this as a bilge rat addition as these seem more cooperative or fun based, if the sea dogs became a faction then maybe but again I'm not convinced a battle Royal mode would work well given server sizes, capacity and the speed of movement of ships. Then there is the thought of is this in the same area map or segerating it for use in it's own instance.
I'd say I'm not in favour but could see some people's interest in it.

Only if it is ship oriented. No boarding other ships, you stay on yours and fight and repair till supplies are exhausted. Gain nothing and loose nothing. There is your battle royal..... all for fun.

Boarding ships of fine but usually that ends in death of the boarding party so that would weaken you ship. I think people would be very cautious about boarding so that they wouldn't have to prohibit it.No boarding parties period. You want to board and attack another ship then play the game as intended. Again with this suggestion that players want a battle Royale should not give anything other than the fighting of ship to ship combat.
I'm worried Rare will make a mess of it by adding their own spin to it! Make crews work together, or add unbalanced modifiers or something....
This is how they should do it.
Choose solo, duo, trio or full crew.
Everyone has the same ship in each of these modes. So no unfair Sloop vs. Galleon nonsense.
All players/teams spawn on a random island with their ship waiting for them!
You gather supplies and set sail.Either a storm slowly closes in like other BR games OR a block of squares are highlighted on the map and a timer ticks down, anyone outside this block is eliminated. The safe zone changes and gets smaller each time...this will add an element of racing too which could be fun!
The last SHIP alive wins. This is important because it will prevent teams with quiitters being at a disadvantage, will prevent players jumping in the sea and swimming around making it a slog to even find them, it will prevent a lot of latency issues with PvP character combat too... Keep it simple. You're boat goes down, you lose!

I hope they don't go through with this. Personally I view BR as a cop out you do when you have no direction for your game. Build an engine and can't decide what to do with it like fortnite, So BR. SoT isn't like that they have a great solid plan and a great engine I just hope they don't cheapen their game with that especially when with BR 90% it comes with lootboxes.
@ve111a i agree. i tried it and can't figure out how people love to just run and run and run, find a gun, get killed, buy a skin, and do it all again lol but I'm just a hater 🤷🏻

Lol I don't get it either. I hate the running simulator/Wait to play again simulators lol.
I don't mind a good BR game when that's what it is intended to be, and it's a good game. I do mind when I buy a game and it abandons it's original design and goes the BR route because it's profitable. They would do far better focusing all of their attention on the core experience.
Also @Ve111a, it's way less waiting when you git gud. Have you tried that yet? :P

Lol I shutter when I hear the word royal now....
I can't wait until this fad is over. I personally do not want it in SoT. All the fad hoppers will do that and I believe it will really kill the amount of players on the real/regular version of SoT.
Worst case, Rare should make another game for this. SoT BR.Either way, I think would be a bad idea. Short thinking for a fad that won't last much longer.

I'm in this boat too though lol to which i respond: first or second game i played, i placed 4th or 6th and didn't know💩 about building. i just didn't enjoy it 🤷🏻
