Own personal Island and player housing.

  • How about this ladies and gentlemen...

What if there were 2-3+ island out there for players to chose as their own. Once you select a island you can build and expand your own house etc. The player housing islands would be privately instanced so when you sail to it your island gets loaded. Just like in so many other instanced games now days.

If you are on a boat with a crew and sail to one of these islands and two or more crew members have claimed it. You get a vote screen on witch one to go to once you sail close enough.

In what capacity this island and player housing would have I dont know. It have to be balanced correct with the outside non instanced world in terms of PvP etc. But the possibilities are many. And I think it could be a fun thing.

Sorry to sound harsh but this is SEA of Thieves, not LAND of Builders.
The sessions aren't persistent, so when you log off everything related to you (apart from gold, rep & purchased items) is gone from the game 'world'.
Taking players out of the game world into a separate instance is something Rare was strongly against.
In my honest opinion i don't think this idea really fits with the type of game this is.

    Acksually, historically speaking....

On topic, maybe in a few years. I want content for the game they created.

  • Customization would be cool but this is not the answer. More ship customization would suit just fine here. Be able to make your captains cabin and lower decks more in line with your personal tastes.

  • AC black flag kinda has this m8...

  • yah i think this sounds interesting but not a good fit for this game. how about they just let us customize the insides of our ships more. thats our home. and if they did have a home or if the ship is the home, give us stuff to do there. some kinda cooking/fishing/sleeping/card game/dice gambling, some kinda lite crafting or mending of things? maybe you dont find planks you find something that needs to be refined for a second into a plank on some tool in your boat

  • @drbullhammer
Something like a Pug figurehead & sails by any chance?
Or a giant hollowed out Boom Boom as a hull ;)

I know what you mean though m8. Would be great to have customisable paint schemes or a massive selection of furniture & fixtures & fittings that you could have to personalise your own ship.

The thing about Sea of Thieves is that it's not finished. Something Rare have said over and over again. They will evolve the game over time. And we all know we need more. Allot more to keep people happy and not stopping playing.

And I think a own private island etc with some cool mechanics could be one of these things. Your own pirate island where you could show of your wealth and success as a mighty pirate.

  • I would be happy with the ability to make a temporary campfire on land so I can camp out on already existing islands. Or a dang hammock on the sloop! Us sloopers need to sleep too!!!

Black Flag have more content. That's the difference.

  • @binaryplayerone
Your ship is already your metaphorical 'island' where you can already show off your wealth.
A pirates ship is their most prized possession & as others have already mentioned, just adding a load more customisation options for the ships would make much more sense & be better suited to SOT.

  • "Own personal Island and player housing" 😂 Sea of Thieves is not that kind of game.

  • Black Flag have more content. That's the difference.

last time I checked, black flag was also a single player game :]

ill remind you that SoT is marketed as a sandbox game with a world you effect if you know what sandbox means is that you are here to create and yes this feature in my opinion had to be in the game if they title it this way Your Own Pirate Island would add more into the title and motives to earn that

Grand Theft Auto 5 is also marketed as an open world sandbox, where's the building in that game?
    alt text

  • @omega-131313 it is a sandbox you buy houses there, you have place to call your own you can run business you can buy and have property that's the sandbox aspec in there and you can change that from different shapes colors sprays and it goes on.
also as Rare said the pirate legend hideout is your special place where you even can sail From and everything but it isn't so they can do same stuff with your own island or something.
Pirates had their Islands and stuff maybe rare will make you pay some fee first for it and then you unlock it idk its a tool for the game and it would only Add more progress into it

  • I think something similar to the Garrison system in WoW would be interesting. you could have your own island, have NPC's running quests in the background, and gathering resources for you. this would allow you to fully stock a galleon or sloop in an instant. you could get special quests from the NPC's as well, but you still need to visit an outpost to drop off loot. getting to your island would be similar to visiting the legendary hideout, where only your crew can access it. The only thing would be how do you chose which crew members island to visit. I would think something like visit plunder or another outpost, go to the private hideout NPC, select the crew members island, head back to the boat, and then press something in the captains quarters. you get an in game sailing cut scene, and 10 sec later on the "Islands dock". you could also start new closed crews there again picking who's from the main menu.

  • not gonna happen bc rare.
what do you think how long it would take them to add mechanics like this? (and stable)
    forever.

  • Instead of a personal island why not use the Skeleton Forts already in the game. After you defeat the Skeleton Captain your crew can then 'claim' the Fort as your own.

Treasure will respawn in the treasure room and you'll have to defend your Fort for a certain amount of time before you can open the Treasure Room with a key that spawns after the timer is up.

100% with @LogansDadToo on this one, Instance based worlds will not only ruin immersion and will be used to dodge pursuers by going into your base, But it will also be a networking hell constantly loading and unloading players especially if they are messing with the system going in and out constantly because we know there will be people that do that and then complain its broken.

  • @revanjstone
I kind of agree here with this, it would be neat to have an activity to do with your crew at times or others. I know others have mentioned this in posts elsewhere. Not necessarily to have a "safe space" but possibly choose to select a "non-combat" mode in a specific area. Maybe in the tavern or on your ship while anchored at a specific port. you couldn't harm or be harmed and couldn't have any loot with you or interact with any. Kind of like how they do it with your crew not damaging one another. But this would allow friendly interaction when you wanted to in only these instances.
(playing shanties, drinking, changing items and customizing, ect....)

I thought itd be cool if a pirate legend could make his own skull fort for people to attack. So they pay money to buy defenses and towers and get rewards based on players killed and ships sunk.

  • @mistoes GTA 5 was labeled as a sandbox game before online even came out, the most that you could do with story mode was to buy and customize cars. similar to how we customize our ships

  • I like the idea, but I don't think it would work here. At most, I thing a personal tent at the outposts would be neat or maybe the building above the oos or event the top level of the tavern. A whole island on a separate session would be too much. And the boat stuff is sure to come down the line.

  • Another MMO wannabe suggestion.
As previously mentioned these are not persistent servers and pirates are criminals, not land owners.

Closest you can get is you and your crew can go to an unused fort and pretend your masters of the universe.

Persistent servers people, SoT does not have this.

  • @binaryplayerone I don't know about you, but I already have an island. I am the Duke of Ancient Spire, after all. Ask around and people can validate my claim to the throne lol :D

  • Well the idea is nice since it is all based upon customization...but sadly I have to agree with my other fellow pirates here that it surely is not the right way for Sea of Thieves.
But I would hope for more ship customization and ship "housing" in that matter that you maybe can customize the furniture more or add cosmetics/skins in form of a new captain's cabin :)
I know that they mentioned something about ship ownership and it will be completely different than what we see so far (I mean naming our ship should not be the only option for ownership ;) ) so maybe then you can see your own ship while being captain as you player house :D

just dive brother and you will find hide-outs...

True Story... we did a Raid and was followed by 2 Gallons and a Sloop... one of us jump over board with the key and dive into a cave hide the key.. and came back... then we let us sunk so they didn't get the key, maybe it sunk with us?! :))

after few, go to the hideout, get the key, and take your loot (FYI: you have to do it while the Skull is not visible.. someone told me, if you wait to long (+3h) the loot is gone?!)

Right but having more sandbox options to expand the pirating options is infinitely more important and in line with the ethos of the game. Playing designer home on an island instead of being out searching for loot will mean you are no longer part of the 'game' as you wont' have loot for other players to steal and will not be searching for loot.
