Any "singers" here? (unofficial "Becalmed" lyrics)

    Hiya all!
    I wrote some lyrics for "Becalmed" shanty and tried singing it, but...
    Let's just say I'm not the best singer.
    Is there anyone who would like to finish it for me?

    edit 2: As many fellow pie rats posted improvements / alternative versions of the lyrics, I'd like to encourage anyone reading this, and interested in singing this, to check the comments or even come up with your own version. This is in no way official, I hold no rights to the song and the whole reason for making these was because I love Becalmed and in a moment of creativity thought it was a good idea. That reminds me... I'm not actually sure if the original creator is okay with this. If anyone knows how to find or contact them, please let me (or them) know :)

    I was going to offer and then remembered I'm missing some of my equipment for reccording....

    I completely forgot to ask about musicians in the game a while back. If I can get online at the right time of day and the microphone picks it up ok I'm planning on just sitting in the taverns and doing some gigs.

    Whup Jamboree is the only irish / piratey song I know right now though. I guess if you send me the lyrics and somewhere I can listen to the shanty online I might be able to practice it for launch, but unfortunately I won't be able to record it and post it anywhere because I lack the equipment at the moment.

    @retto-elbaroda Im not sure where i fall on the singer scale but i could give it a shot.
    As it is a shanty having more people do it would likely make it sound better, if you are all right posting the lyrics public.

    Awesome lyrics, whenever I hear this song I feel like there should be lyrics to it. I've saved them now. I'm not getting the game until a few days after release but if I do get singing I'll definately do this.

    I'm a singer, but a hard rock singer (not really a pirate singer) haha! Actually the singer of the band Alter The Design (we are on the radio)! It was always my main passion over top of coding and developing stuff.

    you should consider changing 'we'll be sailing on' to 'we be sailing on' as I think that's the slang a Pirate might put on that.

    @jjblackhat Ooh, pretty cool! And thanks for advice! English isn't my main language and there is a lot I still have to learn in that matter. Especially all the slang words and accents. It goes over my head, lemme tell you that! Gonna edit it now :).

    Shanties are defined by being traditionally sang acapella meaning no instrumentation. What I would recommend is recording multiple vocal tracks separately and then isolate the track with this music on it leaving only the vocals then you have a sea shanty that will hopefully be in key and to the beat and melody of this piece of music.

    @cmm-solo Maybe I used a wrong term then. I saw many people referring to the SoT instrument songs as shanties so I just went with it without any research. Based of the one that I liked the most I then wrote the lyrics. It was really more for fun and my own bunch of friends to have something fun to do while we play. To sing along with our favourite song... But since I actually found the lyrics pretty fitting and soothing, I decided to ask if someone would like to sing it and make a video or another record of it. I would like to see bunch of vocal tracks put together tho. Multiple people singing could sound much more like a proper pirate crew!

    Lyrics work. Its not impossible. You could record a load of different people singing this along with the music, it would not be difficult to do.

    making a recording with different people all using different software's / mic types and levels might get messy but nothing ventured nothing gained.

    I like it a lot! This tune is my favorite as well.

    I am a musician, but no singer

    Maybe ''once we reach that moment" is a little bit difficult to fit with the melody... In the recorded version we have fir for maximilian, we can see that he had to stretch this phrase to make it work. Maybe a little tweak could make it better.

    I propose "And once we reach that moment'' could become ''And once we've achieve our/this/the journey''

    ''Journey'' is easier to sing than ''moment'' for a long tone... Plus there's kind of a rime.

    ? It could be just me. I'm not a musician it's just that I always tried to link one syllable to one tone and in that part I hear 7 tones for "and once we reach that mo ment". Correct me if I'm wrong, as that's just my opinion :).

    Actually I already realised my mistake, the point was more about the interpretation. The syllables are fine, and depending on how the singer puts the words together, my previous proposition could also work... Could also be "once we've achieve the journey"

    @drendrann I get what you mean, and obviously, the lyrics aren't set in stone, anyone can change them to their liking. I prefer my ones as it points to the moment of death more. Which was kinda the intention. That we will sail till the end of of our days, free as pirates. While your one is more open and down to listener to choose the meaning. Not saying it's bad in any way and I know for a fact many would consider this an advantage as making the listener think about the meaning is a sign of great music. But to me I like to think that pirates should stay pirates till the end of their days. As there is quite a few people putting their opinions and advices here and copy pasting them to the OP each time would be a pain, I'll just leave a reminder to check the comments for alternatives that others came up with if that's okay :).

    That's is a great way to take it! Old songs has always been transformed trough years, this definitely applies to a pirate shanty!
