Addition of 3 man boat &/or boat resizing

  • I loved playing the beta of this game but after playing all 3 boat sizes, I couldn't help feel the boat sizes were wrong. Correct me if I'm wrong but the 1 man boat is the same size as the 2 man boat. I think the 2 man boat is a good size for either but It would be nice to see a size & agility difference. Next is the jump from 2 man to 4 man. It's a huge jump. The 4 man boat is so big & takes so much work to sail, it would be well suited for between 4 & 6 players. The most important thing for me would be the addition of a 3 man boat which could be for example an in between size with 4 cannons. Maybe they could adjust the 2 man boat to 4 cannons & give players an option of having 2 or 3 players on it & 4-6 on the 4 man I think there would be a large amount of players who would make use of a 3 man boat if they have 2 other friends online. Also I would love to see a small row boat you could deploy. At least on the largest ship.

I'm not sure where but somewhere on the forums I found something about the abilty to resize your ships crew capacity. Don't pin me on it because I forgot if it was speculation or stated as fact by an employee.
(it had something to do with the whole ship customization thread)

  • @misterl1983
I have had the same thought I was always hoping they would make a boat size in-between the two current ones.

  • Hi there, i already wrote in other similar topics on the forum that i hope they will fill the spot for the 3 players, a medium size ship that goes exactly beetween the sloop and the galleon in terms of size and equipment, 2 cannons per side and 2 sails, and of course we need rowboats for everyone :)

  • How funny would it be for the 1 man crew to just be a row boat

  • @vitix88 thanks I'll check it out.
@cr0n0d yeah it seems like there is a ship size very obviously missing. Maybe they are holding it back until release day
@Deadly-Krueger that would be pretty funny. I can imagine the fun we could have with row boats. Leaving a friend behind & making him row to the next island or ploughing a galleon into somebody desperately rowing treasure back to their boat for examples lol

  • @misterl1983 While the row boats for bigger crews would be a nice addition. I was talking about just a 1 man crew. Instead of the 1 man and 2 man ships being the same size. If you get a 1 man, you get this little row boat...Imagine the very first scene in the first pirates of the Caribbean movie, when jacks boat was sinking...you get that! (well expect the sinking part)

  • @misterL1983 just found this in another thread I was reading. It may give you a bit more info about said subject ;)

@ethnine said in What do you think about being able to customize your own ship (size, cannons, material, etc.)?:
@byjoi I have researched this a lot actually, and Rare has said multiple times that there will be ship customization. For an idea of what kind it will be, I suggest you take a look at these two articles:

    https://segmentnext.com/2016/08/29/sea-of-thieves-interview-exploration-solo-customization-and-more/

SegmentNext: "Let’s talk about the ships; can we purchase new ones or are bound to upgrading our present one? What’s the largest crew-size that a ship can hold in the game? Do you plan on adding Galleons for players to front as a flagship for their armada?"

Mike Chapman: "Players will be able to own a variety of ships in the game and upgrade both their functionality and customize their look. Players will also be able to play in a variety of crew sizes depending on how they want to play. We aren’t talking specifically about numbers, such as the exact crew and ship sizes, only because our goal right now is to get the game into a Closed Beta. We have our vision for where we think we should take crews and ships, but ultimately we want to build our whole experience alongside an engaged player base with whom we have a two-way relationship."

SegmentNext: "With such a vast world, there surely are legendary lost treasures waiting to be found. Is Rare adding unique weapons, ships, or other items in the game?"

Mike Chapman: "Yes! All of the above!"

SegmentNext: "What kind of a character progression system are we looking at here? On that note, how deep does the customization process go for both characters and ships? Can we create our own Jolly Roger?"

Mike Chapman: "Players will be able to customize a lot of aspects about their character, such as their clothing, their trinkets and how they look overall. Players will also be able to progress the things they have such as equipment and weapons. However, we want to encourage players to perform different roles on the ship based the situations they find themselves in, so we decided not to lock players into defined roles, such as always being better at operating the sails or firing the cannons. The difference between good crews and excellent crews will be how well they work together on the ship and how they decide who does what in any given moment, just as you would expect if you were on a real ship. Players will also be able to customize and upgrade the ships they own. Playing on someone else’s ship is always very compelling, since you get to see the choices they’ve made and try out their upgrades."

GameAxis: "Can you tell us more about the in-game progression? I’d imagine you start with a small ship and work from there?"

Gregg Mayles: "You can imagine yourself as a penniless pirate dressed in rags and you want to become a pirate legend in fine clothing and awesome weaponry and cool equipment with the best ship. We have a progression system."

    GameAxis: "Including ship customisation?"

    Gregg Mayles: "Yes."

GameAxis:****"With missions and objectives to earn in-game currency to buy all of it?"

Gregg Mayles: "Yeah. You get treasure and you want the loot, you’ll want to spend it. Personal progressions are around you and also on weapons and objects that you can carry. Everyone wants to own a ship or ships and make it look like they want it to look cool. These customizations aren’t just aesthetics but functional too. So a larger sail that looks cool will also makes your ship move quicker too."

  • @misterl1983 I love how you're thinking but maybe instead of that you could just purchase whatever size boat you wanted with in-game money??!

  • @rain-zetezz
Read your reply wrong. I thought you meant micro transactions.
Yes in game credits for different ships would be perfect. It would still be good to have a 3 man base ship to start with though. Or have the option to have a 3man crew on the 2 man ship until you can buy bigger

  • @misterL1983
I am 80% sure I've seen a video from rare after the technical alpha in november, they said they were making the galleon also available for 3 man crews.

  • @radzz-the-drunk
It's great to have options on which ship you put your team. That would definitely be a good option keeping the numbers flexible on ships.
I played on the 4 man ship for a couple hours & found it's hard work to run with 4 at times especially with strangers, but i guess it's doable with 3 if you coordinate

  • I would love to see an option to split a crew over multiple ships ie.. 2 teams of 2 working together. If not that, just an option to join the same server your friends crew are playing on would be amazing

  • @misterl1983
I do feel like it's really doable if you have a captain shoutin the orders of what to do, especially with 4 man crew. I think the 3 man crew on the galleon can be compared with a 1 man crew on the sloop, perfectly doable until you get in a fight or storm at that point you will need to coordinate perfectly.

A nice new challenge I think.

I would like that as well aye, a 4 man crew across two sloops would be fun.

  • @misterl1983 I totally agree.

You are correct! 3 person crew option will be coming to the game and they’re pretty sure it will be in for launch!

I agree that this would be the best way to implement a three man ship. I would find it very surprising if Rare didn't release this ship with launch.

  • Yay! Finally another post by someone with the same idea Ive had ever since I played. This game is beggin for another ship. An brig for example. Two big masts, two cannons on each side

  • @misterl1983 The galleon can be sailed by 1 person if you really know what youre doing, that is a difficult job, you sure as heck wont be winning any fights but you can sail it. Duo is doable and 3 is comfortable hence 4 is the sweet spot. If you know your crew you can roll a galleon as a 3 person crew easily.
