Traps for wild animals

  • We all know merchants is a really hard/tedious faction to play, and I recently started trying to 100% the game.

Well one of the things you have to do is capture 250 animals and it sucks to run around to different islands trying to find a rare golden animal. What if we could get traps, like a chicken trap, pig trap, and snake trap.

You could put them on an island with some kind of bait, like worms for chickens, fruit for pigs, etc. The trap could keep the animal alive for 1 real world hour, that way you can just leave a trap and come back later after placing more traps on other islands.

Maybe it's asking allot but there could even be stats like coconuts give a 75% higher chance to catch a specific animal, kinda like fishing.

There's also the risk reward, leaving a trap does mean another play could find and sell it but it means you didn't have to run all over the island.

  • @ultrasuprman If you want the golden animals, start the merchant tutorial voyage and the island it tells you to go will always have a golden animal on. (and the islands are very very small)

That is a loosing battle you won’t achieve until the game itself is “done”

I don't know about waiting an hour to catch one animal is worth it to be honest, since it's easier and quicker to reset the island, no?

Years ago I wanted to complete all the commendations for merchant. We purchase 50 voyages, collected a ton of traps, and went to Sunken Grove. We'd start with just pigs, and captured them all, burying them in areas to organize them. Once all the pigs on the island were captured, we'd go to the ferry, come back to find more pigs.

It took about a week to finish all achievements and if we needed a certain color, we'd simply reset the island. While I know certain aspects have changed over the years, the method of resetting the island is still sound, yes? No need to bait a trap and wait an hour for just one animal! Yikes.

  • Could be interesting but I don't think there is really enough demand/use for it in game. Is there ever really a time where you have a cage and can't find an animal you need on one of the islands? There's a much worse comm, for delivering 100 kegs from merchant bottle quests. Basically impossible to do now.
