Marauder's Medley

  • Hey Pirates,

There's something I would like to see changed in the future, hopefully even for the ongoing Marauder's Medley event. I really appreciate the game, and it's so much fun to play. I also love seeing how Sea of Thieves continues to grow. However, there is one thing that repeatedly makes me sad. The ongoing event is only available at certain times, which sometimes makes it impossible for everyone to participate, like the current event.

If you miss just one chapter during the ten days of the event, it's impossible to get the Golden Sailor Cannons. And since it's a time-limited item, you probably won't be able to get them in the future. I think everyone would agree that time-limited items should be obtainable for the entire duration of the event, and no chapter should close after just two days, making it impossible to get all the items if you miss those days.

Unfortunately, this happened to me when my internet went down for two days, and it was fixed only today. Now, I have no chance of getting the Golden Sailor Cannons because I can't complete the "Cursed Sails, Resurfaced" voyages, even if I do all the other voyages.

    Fair winds and following seas!

  • Generally certain cosmetics like this will come back for certain anniversaries of the game so if you miss out this time you will just have to wait till next time and plan around those days to get some progress in, steam and gamepass you have the option to load up the game via remote play on the phone when not home for a quick session to try get something in if you have the time and connection for it.

  • @th3xr34p3r You're right, this could be an option. But should a game be designed in a way that players are almost "forced" to play on certain days? It would be easier for everyone if the whole event time was available to complete all chapters, even if someone started on day 10. Each one of us has family, friends, work, and other hobbies. So why should we restrict our lives?

I understand how you feel, being in Australia I had to go well into the morning hours for the early launch stuff to participate and collect the collectables from those events since I wanted to and was able to plan around it to participate. The only issue I have with some events like this is they don't give some people much notice on the dates and times until 24-48hours prior, so for folks with family and such they don't have much time to adjust things.

  • @debardamor They made this extremely easy to get - 48 hours on each challenge, only having to complete one challenge to qualify, and the requirements for unlocking the first could only be simpler by just requiring a log-in. Each one should only take a couple of minutes, with the first being the most "difficult" since you had to track down a skeleton ship to start.

Also the Golden Cannons were already a Year 1 anniversary reward, so there is hope it will come back (or you may already have it). The X marks the Spot sniper was a Day 1 reward. So if you have those already, you only need to complete 3 challenges on 3 different days.

  • @dlchief58

Xmark EoR (yellow) as an anniversary gift. Launch Crew EoR (green) was the launch item.

I do agree about giving heads up. I found out about the event the day it started.

  • @dlchief58 That's true. However, I didn't criticize the difficulty level of each task, but rather the time-bound aspect that is required. I agree that the tasks are relatively easy to complete, but if you don't have the opportunity to play the game during that time, the task can be as easy as it gets. Unfortunately, I don't have the cannons, so it bothers me that I won't have a chance to get them even if I had time during the other eight days

  • I have to agree. I have all the items but I empathise and I do think they dropped the ball giving folks a heads up on this one.

Initially, I thought it was a total across all the challenges but I was very surprised reading the actual requirements that you have to do at least 1 of the goals per two-day time limit, and the other goals are just for gold. Seems a little harsh to have such time constraints mostly mid work week.

I work 13 hour shifts, often back to back - if I needed to do these challenges, I would have been hard pressed. Especially when the first one was very RNG based.
