  • Nope! Nor the PS5 for that matter.

  • @uphillhare16830 no...you know why? Because you won't be able to hear the waves ingame, because of that helicopter sound coming from the console...😜

  • How bout you negotiate giving The Last of Us to Xbox users and let me know how that goes

  • @uphillhare16830 nah sony doesn't deserve this good of a game. playstation users can buy an Xbox or pc

  • Dumb console war, I understand why Xbox would want to keep it exclusive but why the players?

Just dumb, the more people the better and i dont see how it would hurt the balance of this game so why people got a problem with that? I dont know but it would definitely be nice if Sea of Thieves would be in PS5 as well.

    Ill even add Nintendo Switch

  • @faceyourdemon I mean...the Xbox One can barely handle SOT these days...the Switch would probably catch on fire trying lol

  • @sweetsandman hahahaha right, my Switch is screaming for help when i play Mario hahaha.

They can lower the resolution like they do to other games.

  • @faceyourdemon go ask Sony the same question with whichever random sony game and see how far you get and then realize this is how it works. Nintendo is even worse... they don't even allow tournaments made by fans. Better yet, ask both Sony and Nintendo why they won't allow xcloud...

  • @uphillhare16830 frankly, more players can only be a good thing.

Unfortunately, with console exclusives being so important, it's highly doubtful this will ever appear on PS.

Would love to see it happen though!

  • @drizkillz Please, please read again. I am well aware why would Xbox or any company would have its own reasons to choose that way but i am talking about the players.

As for Nintendo..... The forum wont let me say the things I think about Nintendo, Activision are Philanthropists compare to their disgusting behavior with their consumers. God i hate Nintendo..

  • It should, but due to legal issues; it can't

  • No, they don't deserve this awesomeness. Let them have their exclusives and be happy. I didn't hear them feeling bad for us missing out on God of War.

  • @sweetsandman I'm not talking about Switch

  • I’d love for this to be on PlayStation, I have friends that I’d love to have cross play with. I understand not wanting to share with snoys but this game is too good and should rise above console wars like Minecraft

  • @uphillhare16830 @faceyourdemon
It would be a problem because then Rare would have to make a build, not only for PC and Xbox, but also for Playstation and Switch if they added it. That would slow down the development of the game. Otherwise, I would love to have more players playing the game.
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is $15 a month, and it comes with XCloud, Xbox's game streaming service, along with the ability to play Sea of Thieves for free. If a Playstation owner doesn't want to buy an Xbox to try Sea of Thieves, well then they can buy Game Pass (which is $1 to start) and see if it's worth their time.

We have both consoles at our home. We also play PC games. I can’t engage in this “us versus them” stuff. It’s stupid for players to identify themselves this way. We game. Look at how many great players joined after adding Steam. I see why Microsoft would want an exclusive, but we as players shouldn’t care if it happens.

True. That is a more reasoned argument against it. If it slows down development and takes away more resources than it brings in then it would hurt the game.

  • I own every console (Except xbox but own a PC so still ahve access to microsoft games) and as much as I hated it not being on PlayStation (Preferred console) I have to say that I'm glad it's an xbox exclusive. At the end of the day it's the exclusives that define the console. Back before I had a gaming set up for my pc, the only thing that made me want to buy an Xbox was this game when it was being teased, so good for them for having this exclusive

  • @grumpyw01f This argument is 1000 times more valid then what ive heard.

Though cant they just hire more people to translate the game to PS?
Not saying its easy or cheap but more players will bring more funds to the game.
    Putting aside the Xbox stuff.

  • You don't even need a console or PC to play sea of thieves. The days of actually needing gaming hardware are ending. Cloud gaming is where the future is heading. Any mobile device you own and a gamepass subscription will do.. And you can cast your experiences straight to a TV or monitor to view if the small screen doesnt suit you. I also imagine Xbox gamepass will soon become an app you will get with most new tv's.

  • @faceyourdemon If they made a new team dedicated to PS I don't see why they wouldn't want to port to PS. The difficulty with doing that/Microsoft's own console war mentality is what is stopping them. Hopefully one day those things are erased! The port to steam brought a lot of new players to meet *cough * *cough * to steal from *cough * *cough * and I'd love to see that again.

    AMEN TO THAT!

  • @grumpyw01f MS's console war mentality? Thanks to Phil Spencer leading the charge, they've been open to sharing for a few years now - it's Sony that's turning them down at every turn and opportunity.

  • For years, Microsoft has been far more open to having their games on other platforms than Sony, who only recently started coming around to the idea (Death Stranding, Horizon Zero Dawn, MLB The Show).

I wouldn't 100% rule out the notion of having Sea of Thieves on PlayStation but it's unlikely [at the moment] due to Sony's stance on crossplay and in-game purchases, in particular. With the reliance on the Xbox network for this game especially, it might prove a sticking point for Sony.

There is precedence though with Minecraft, even though it was published on PlayStation before Microsoft bought it.

In the end, Microsoft will do whatever makes sense from a business point of view, but they seem to care little for keeping exclusives tied to their consoles anymore if publishing elsewhere makes them more money. But it's up to the platform holders, in this case Sony, to work it out on their side also.

As the saying goes, "it takes two to tango".

  • @galactic-geek @realstyli
Sorry, that was bad choice of words. I just don't think Xbox wants to see their best multiplayer game on PS. But your right, Sony would be more of a blockade to that than Xbox. You can already play SoT with a PS controller lol

  • i think the answer is reeeeally simple.
    rare belongs to microsoft.
    microsoft is xbox and windows.
sea of thieves is xbox and windows.

    really simple. really.

Deathloop. Yes, Microsoft bought Bethesda and Arkane after the game was announced, but they didn't have to stick to the deal. They did so because of money: sell now on PS5 and PC, add Xbox in a year for more sales. They could have cancelled and re-skinned the project as an exclusive - they didn't, they went for what makes them more money.

Then there's Psychonauts 2, which is available on PS4. Similar pattern but it was never a PlayStation exclusive, so it was easier. They could have cancelled the PS4 version, but didn't because it's 1) more sales and 2) some goodwill among fans of the original.

(Additionally, I wouldn't really count it as Microsoft don't own Moon Studios, but there is also Ori & The Blind Forest on Switch)

What I am getting at is, that argument makes no sense. It doesn't account for PlayStation games coming to PC neither, a platform that Microsoft owns. Companies don't think like fanboys, they do whatever profits them. Console wars benefit them to a degree, that it keeps everyone talking about games and buying games - a rising tide raises all ships.

I don't know what way the seas will turn but to look at it from a "simple" point of view doesn't account for what, in the end, is "just good business".

Problem with your rationale is that both games you mentioned (as well as The Outer Worlds) were already contracted to be delivered on the other systems well before the acquisition of the studios, and it is not as simple as just cancelling those distribution/publishing contracts like you make it out.

So yes, his argument does make sense when you factor in all the circumstances - you don't put your crown jewels on the opponents' systems, just as you don't pull the rug out from those where commitments have already been made (pre-existing games & contracts). But it is not as cut and dried as it once was, with games such as Minecraft Dungeons crossing lines with no previous presence on competition or an existing contract to honor. Same could be said for MLB 21: The Show, but that one sort of makes sense being there is no real competition on the Xbox side (and MLB pushed for an Xbox version as well, publishing it themselves on those systems).

But by the time you figure in all the hassles that SONY puts up for crossplatform gaming, it really seals the deal that a game like this from Microsoft is never going to appear on a SONY platform....at least not as a standard release (maybe streaming but I wouldn't hold my breath on that one as SONY really doesn't want to play ball like people claimed they did during the PS3/360 era, and it seems like that conversation with both of the other competitors is pretty much dead at this point).

  • @dlchief58

I left out the Outer Worlds because that was published by Private Division.

The two examples I gave could have easily become exclusives. Yes, a contract existed for Deathloop as an exclusive, but Microsoft were not bound to that contract as it was made prior to their acquisition of Bethesda. They could have cancelled the project (at great cost admittedly). They chose to honour the contract, however, as 1) it looks good, and 2) it earns them more money, and then more again when it eventually comes to Xbox.

Same goes for Psychonauts 2 - the PS4 version could have been cancelled. However, I would think Tim Schafer might have had a hand in it going ahead (potentially part of the deal to acquire Double Fine).

As for Sony, I agree and I think they are really the hurdle here. I say that as someone who has owned every PlayStation console and handheld except the PS5 (though I do plan to get one). They seem to be stuck in the past when it comes to crossplay, with a huge reluctance to embrace it fully.

  • @realstyli Strongly disagree regarding the possibility of Psychonauts 2 being cancelled on other formats. For one, it was initially a crowd funded game and the Playstation consoles were first on the list if I'm not mistaken - SONY even going to the ends to make it look like it was going to be an exclusive (a common practice of theirs, making a title look like it will be an exclusive at a show when it is obviously going to be multiplatform when released - they did it with the Reaper of Souls version of Diable III and other games) and funded the VR game too. No way they were going to enrage those Fig backers who supported the game and were expecting a PS4 version for their investment. So no, they could not have just cancelled it as lawsuits would have ensued afterwards. While Microsoft was not bound to such agreements, Double Fine most certainly was - regardless of a new owner. Pretty much the same for Deathloop, especially given it was inked as a timed Playstation exclusive.

While you think they could have easily cancelled those projects to keep them for themselves, in reality that was not really possible.

  • @dlchief58

I had completely forgotten Psychonauts 2 was crowdfunded on Fig, it feels like that was so long ago! You are correct in that case, cancelling the PS4 version wouldn't have ever been on the cards, realistically.

I still stand by that Deathloop could have been cancelled, however, as it wasn't to be published by Sony. It was always a Bethesda published game. Deals may have been made for timed exclusivity but it's not a Sony game so there was no obligation to deliver. Microsoft probably figured that it was close enough to being finished, and a promising title, so saw no benefit in cancelling it seeing as it would be coming to Xbox later in any case. But that option did exist for them.

My whole point is still that I believe Sony are the bigger hurdle to Sea of Thieves ever appearing on PlayStation than Microsoft. I don't know if Microsoft see it as as big of a system seller as the likes of Halo or Forza. As long as they can say you can play it for "free" on Game Pass, that seems to be their main focus at the moment.

  • @captain-coel Suppose those kinds of people can't afford an xbox or pc. Then what?

  • Definite yes!!!!!!!
