Problem with streamers

    @realstyli

Creator content now encourages all players to stream, and also have levels, customisation to unlock for doing so.
You know, you can see this when you look at your factions that was recently added.

I get that but this is not new functionality (streaming), it's only encouragement. This is not a new issue.

While I do understand the concerns in extreme circumstances, they would be there whether the other players were streaming or not. It's really the other players who are not streaming who you should be more worried about interactions with. A lot of streamers now mute other players and hide their gamertags by default.

The tools are there in-game and outside of game to protect a child's privacy and keep them safe. This is all highlighted in the Xbox Live Terms of Service.

  • Today I watched the stream from Twitch.con and once again was left wondering what the...?

Why?? On the panel sat a popular streamer, who on several occasions in his own words, said whenever new content is released he will discover new ways to ruin the experience for everyone else he meets on the seas.
These are the sort of amazing player interactions Rare keeps going in about??
Yes, it's a sandbox game and you can play however you like.
But he will have many followers who will also play in this style, this is probably why interesting player interactions are few and far between anymore on this game, and it all started to go like this when it became a more popular streamed game.
But hey.. Private servers were also announced/confirmed on the road map, so non PVP fanatics will be able to remove themselves from this type of streamer eventually I guess.

  • @justincase2004 Uuummm,u do know that using a mic is completely optional right,as well as playing online with other players/crew,its ur choice,u choose to talk, they have an in game communication whell 4 a reason,as far as streamers go,go find a new session/server/crew,if u play any online multiplayer game you sign of on permision to use you physical/digital/vocal likeness when nessacary as par terms of service/etc,u dont like it u dont have 2 play, nufff said, most online multiplayer games/gamers stream now a days!!!!!.....

I'd be mighty interested to hear the actual context and tone of this quote. Who doesn't like to use the new toys released each update to best our foes? People love to use metaphors and exaggerations.

Even if he meant this in his heart of hearts, why is a bad apple representative of a whole community? (People over here love to paint broadly don't they)

But he will have many followers who will also play in this style, this is probably why interesting player interactions are few and far between anymore on this game, and it all started to go like this when it became a more popular streamed game.

What do the followers have anything to do with them? One potential toxic streamers has (fictional number) 5k viewers, therefore this means he adds 5k toxic players to the game that plays 100% the same way he does? That's a lot of unfounded assumptions right there.

But hey.. Private servers were also announced/confirmed on the road map, so non PVP fanatics will be able to remove themselves from this type of streamer eventually I guess.

I didn't watch any of the panels unfortunately, was there a new roadmap announced? Did the devs mention (or confirm) anything about private servers or are we talking about that interview where Joe said they were thinking about maybe having progress-less private servers?

  • Technically any time your kid is on the internet, particularly on a game that is played with other people, he is streaming content to everyone who can see it whether that be through voice, text or actions in the game whether the other parties are recording it or not.

If you don't want this to happen, don't let your kids play online games.

So I did end up watching the panel, and as expected the quote from Pace was rather taken out of context, saying how he liked to challenge other players (tongue in cheek saying how he liked to mess with them) and use the tools given to us each update to think outside the box and try new strategies and challenge their behavioral patterns.

Nice way to try to make look people more dastardly than they really are. (Note at 9:30 how even Joe Neat says he's been joking about Pace and he's the loveliest guy).

Again, I care little for streamers but I find it weird that people can't separate their personas from the people they really are and just try to demonize them because they don't share their views and playstyles.

Turns out they did confirm the private servers were on the roadmap but hinted heavily at how it will mostly be for content creators events and such, and that a lot of tinkering is being involved with it. I still would be very surprised if any progression will be possible on those, I guess we will see.

Quite wholesome and interesting panel really, it's a shame some people watch it and twists other people's words and try to paint them in a bad light to further their narratives.

  • Streaming rules apply to the streamer not to those rando's encountered on the stream. Especially if the other players are just pixels and not irl.
Pegi and ESRB are pointless rating systems that don't even apply as they DO NOT include online interactions. So, the catch 22 is why even have a rating if your gaming is entirely online based?

  • Clearly, I am too old. Because I couldn't give a rotten wooden leg about streamers and the cult of personality that seems to have grown around them.

If I like a game, I want to play it - not watch someone else play it.

Agreed, why watch when you can play?

Anyways, it's become a thing since a few years, and if that phenomenon brings more visibility, interest, publicity and indirectly more players, the more the merrier!

Despite not really 100% getting the appeal, I try to think of it like watching sports. Why watch football/soccer/hockey/whatever on TV when you could grab a ball/stick and go play it outside yourself?

  • I hear you, pirate.

And you make a good point - if it brings more people to the Sea, surely that is a good thing, right?

  • a company as big as MS has their behinds covered on the legal front.

  • @justincase2004 terms of agreement and EULA should read those mate you've already given permission they tell you whats legal and what not and you have given your consent for certain events and actions and also agreed to certain rules within you'll find everything you've agreed to and i know those texts seems ailienish with its long fancy words but some of the rules you agree to can be broken and can lead to some very nasty things like: getting banned or in some very rare cases lawsuits yes game companies can sue you for breaking ToA and EULA however as said its very rare but can happen so i recommend reading them even if it takes 10 mins to read

  • @justincase2004

This is a very large misconception about audio recordings. It is not illegal to take someones picture, record them visually or audio recordings in the states. Everyone loves to quote this or say this but it's untrue.

The only time when recording someone is illegal is on private property you control. Like your house. If you are at a walmart, mcdonalds, you are at the mercy of the company laws. So if walmart had a sign posted up that no recordings are allowed then it is illegal. If no sign is posted then it is not.

Now for public areas like outside. If you are outside on the sidewalk, street, or public gathering it is not illegal to record you. You can say "you can't record me dont record me" but that does nothing. You are in a public place so you are not privileged to any semblance of privacy.

You are playing an open world game with an open chat that you are aware can be heard from other players, you forfeit any privacy for that. Same thing within a party. Other people are in the chat which makes it public.

Now if it was a party chat that you created yourself as in programmed and created, let's call it, privacy chat, you can set the rules however you like and warn players against legal action for recording audio without permission.

Hope this helps you better understand things.

I used to think that way, but honestly, I go through phases of just being too tired to actually play a game, but still wanting to experience it, maybe while I just veg out and get ripped. Some of the streamers are nice, funny, entertaining and generally affable folks, whom I find genuinely pleasurable to watch.

It fills a strange in-between space for me, it's not quite the same vibe as wanting to play a game, or to watch some trashy TV, it's kind of like a weird combination of those two activities that for me has come to be something I enjoy doing regularly now.

It hasn't stopped me playing games as much as I always did, but I watch less TV and read fewer newspapers. I think I'm happier for it.

  • You can always become an artist and make a couple of original songs which you will then sing during the streams and recordings and then you'll claim copyright and all possible monetization.

    It's a perfect scheme, it's beautiful.
